Correction....most are sophomores. I think there are only 2 or 3 freshmen.  Lumberton Lady Raiders looked extremely impressive against Westbrook.

Thursday, Jan 3rd, the Lady Raiders beat Vidor 4-1 in their first preseason soccer game.

That would be great too if our school would choose to go to a meet held on a Saturday! We haven't run in a Saturday meet for the past two years. Not sure why.

As coaches plan their dates for hosting track meets in 2013 I hope they will consider having more meets on Thursdays. There are many area runners who also play soccer. The soccer district games are already set for Tuesdays and Fridays. When track meets are scheduled on Fridays it eliminates all soccer players from running in the meet. It's high school! Let these athletes compete! Some of them are very good at both of these sports.

A big congratulations goes out to state qualifier Jordan Welborn from Lumberton. She placed 9th in the Region 3 Regional Cross Country meet in Atascocita last Saturday running a 5K time of 19:52. She advances to the state meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock next Saturday. Good luck at state Jordan! Don't stop believin'!

The 4A bracket came up fine for me. It does say that Barbers Hill plays Hutto in the next round.

What was the outcome of Friday night's game?

Magnolia won 25-22, 25-23, and 25-13. I wonder what the Magnolia coach thought when this young Raider team almost beat them the first two games! What a season for those Lady Raiders!! Congrats to Coach O'Quinn!

Varsity girls 4A team results: Nederland 1st Livingston 2nd Lumberton 3rd Jordan Welborn did get 1st in the race with 19:44. She is a really good runner! Nederland had 4 ladies place in the top ten. They always seem to have a strong team! Livingston's team beat Lumberton's team by only 1 point. Lumberton had ladies running with injuries. Congrats to all three teams advancing to regionals at Atascocita next Saturday, November 3rd.

In my opinion setting is harder to do than most people think. However, I have learned that it all starts with a "good" or "perfect" pass to the setter. That first pass or "up" must be consistently good for the setter to do her job.
