a little tidbit before i start my list , from 1970-1979 hamshire fannett's quarterbacks represented their respected district be it 22-aa or 18-aa. in a 9 year time spand 7 times recieving  1st team all district , mvp of the district  and outstanding back of the district .1) les konneing jr (1974-1975) went 20-2 as a starter took over the qb job as a sophmore went 7-1 won district in 1974 , in 1975 went 13-1 in 2 years he lost 1 district game went to the semi finals, passed for over 1600 yrds with 16 td passes and rushed for over 1000 with 16 tds . oh did i mention he played db and had 10 ints he was all district db as well . too bad him and his father left hamshire to go to houston memorial where he led his team to the semifinals in 4a ball falling to the legendary png team . 2) charles deshotel (1976-1978) 3 yr starter for the horns had the large task of filling les koenning jr shoes as a sophmore, in 1976 a lot of key players didnt come back from that semifinals team that were all district so the team was young. his record improved every year , by his senior year in 1978 the horns had a new coach phil danaher and a seasoned group . charles led the team to  9-3 record , district title , bi district title and a trip to regionals against sealy tigers who had eric dickerson . charles had 866yrds passing with 7 tds and 742 rushing with 14tds plus they had two 1000yrd backs and a defense that pitched 5 shutouts that year , he was a southpaw who was a precise passer with with great running skills . charles has the distinct honor of being hamshire's first full time  african american qb.  3) flip johnson (1979-1980) who compiled a 17-5 record starting for the horns in 1980 the horns went 10-2 with flip winning district the 1st 20-3a title and bi-district, title extremly smooth with a strong arm , with a smooth running style with quick feet  a two time all district selection . he was also hamshire's 1st alumni to go pro if im not mistaken . 4) scott meloncon 1972 -1973 a two time all district 1st teamer on teams that were ranked, too bad during this time it was only 1 represenative from the district . even though teams back then could share a district title he was a winning qb for the horns. 5) al baker 1971 was the qb of the team that won the 22-aa district title that year , he was also the 22-aa all district qb , eventhough hamshire eventually lost to kirbyville the horns were getting put on the map in the 70's . 5)allen hammonds (1981-1983) hammonds lead the horns to a district title in 1983 and was all district 1st team that year  had a cannon for an arm  with a tight spiral , could stand flat footed and throw over 60 yrds easily .6) ricky bayse (1984-1985) i may get some flack for this one , ricky didnt lead the horns to  a district title (thanks to charlie wilson )  but ricky made plays with his feet as well as his arm . he lead the league in passsing that year he also had about 16 tds ,  in fact he was  7th or 8th in the state that year in yrds . ricky was awarded all district qb 2nd team , but was named outstanding back of 20-3a that year because of his play (kenny ford was 1st team who ran the option and didnt throw )  he was also honarble mention as a safety , he would pop you !!! that is my list , now i didnt get a chance to see a lot of the qbs after 87 so alumni help me out we can tweek the list and add on from the late 80's and througout the 90's especially the kid that threw the ball too felmen malvaeux , share your thoughts .

wow !!! i wish i could be there , i really don't think a lot of people realize its been a a lot of great and good player that has came through hamshire . i have been on the internet and i have found tons of articles from past all district teams, the 74 squad that produced the 1st two super gold team players from hamshire , curtis george and dale green.  i also found out that dale green was  hamshire's first all state selection.  the 75 semi finals teams with coach koenning were a machine , i remember seeing them play when i used to watch old film in the field house back in the day les koenning jr had a remarkable year throwing and passing the ball and he had 10 ints that year , truly a longhorn legend !!! i dont think cats know we have a rich tradition at qb , from 1973 (scott meloncon) 1974-75 (les koenning)  , 1978 (charles deshotel)  1979 (flip johnson ) 1983( allan hammonds ) and 1985( ricky bayse ) represented the 1st team all district or outstanding back of 18-AA and 20-AAA , pretty impressive !! i havent even talked about the running backs , that is another thread . randy my name is jonathan johnson class of 86 , i wish you the best in what you guys are doing , wish i was in the area , because quiet as kept we have a rich football tradition that has feel on hard times , so i hope the kids see this and have a successful year . randy i hear you have all the games from the 70's up till now , if i is anyway possible i would love to get a copy of my junior and senior years 84 and 85 it would be appreciated im willing to pay . i also would love to know more about the teams from from 88-02 . i hope all goes well with october 5th , have a good one .

Ecfan1 , I was a sophomore that year the stadium was rocking that night both sides of the stands were full !!!! Hard hitting game , I just remember when the game was over y'all jumped cheered and ran straight to the bus , no hand shake or nothing just we kicked halls ass and we are out !!! So classless , but so gangsta !!! I hated it and loved it at the same time , lol !!!

the reasson for the thread is it seems to me that hamshire has had a lot of good and great players that has came through there , when im on the internet i see all kinds of schools pay homage to their great players via internet with pics of them and their high school football accomplishments , but i havent seen one with hamshire so im going by my experince and what i saw having graduated from there in 86 and i watched a ton of film when i was there going back to 73-85 , i knew a lot of these players and followed in their footsteps . i didnt get a chance to see the guys from 88-96 play , but i heard they were doing big things , im in northern va and i have been asked frequently when they find out im from tx whats up with high school footbal there yall are fanatics !!! but yall have legendary players that come out that state . the thread is for ex or current alumni that can help me with some research , not smart asses !!!! so people that could help , please do so .

i know flip johnson qb (all district 1st and second team 1979-1980 ) class of 81 , played for the buffalo bills for a few years . spencer george played for the tennesse titans ( the team that went to the super bowl ) felton malveaux , i heard went to the redskins for a second and played for the toranto argunauts . i was saying that just because a player didnt make pro doesnt take away from him beign  a great high school football player . it maybe a few more but i think a lot of the players went too colleges .

Im new to the forum , however i saw a list that was on here from a few years ago , that listed the top 10 players of all time at hamshire , although some i agree with and see the point to many players of the late 70's and early 80's were left out . Some went to college some didnt some went pro , but that shouldnt be the meter on to judge some of the players . here are some of them that need to mentioned in high regard : kenneth desohtel rb 1976-1978 all district 3 years , 2 time 1st team and 2 time outstanding back . charles desohtel 1976-1978 took over the reign at qb after the great les koening left as a sophmore 3 year starter , 1st team all district co outstanding back with his cousin kenneth . todd shellhammer d lineman 1976-1978 all district outstanding d lineman of 182A , robert sanders 1977-1978 all district back 1st team , joe farrow and milton basye all district lineman , eugene arceneaux the head huter 1976-1978 all district 2nd team (he was robbed) spearheaded that defense that had 5 shutouts that went 8-2 under 1st year coach the legendary phil danaher. ( hamshire should be kicking themselves in the back side for this one ) i hope i can get some nice longhorn debate going on about this , i also want to know about the teams from 88-96 , they put out a lot of great players had some great teams i need info on them .
