Hardin-Jefferson 54 Hamshire-Fannett 70/FINAL

Sorry, I worded that really poorly. I meant if you combined the two districts and took four teams. If you just brought BC or WOS over, I would definitely expect either to compete for and likely take the 4th spot. With the two districts combined it’s Silsbee, then HF-HH-HJ, then everyone else a ways back. -

They SHOULD beat them. HJ is an improved team from earlier in the year when they beat BC by 19. The cards have looked good in district, but that district is really bad this season apart from Silsbee. If you combined the districts, apart from Silsbee, who would win it, nobody from that district would even sniff the playoffs in 20-4A. All that having been said, the cards do have a shot. They’re not a bad team, have a little momentum, and the hawks are definitely down this year. -

Unless HJ led 2-0 (when I started the game they were down 9-2), HJ took their first lead of the game with under 2 min to go in the 4th quarter. This team isn’t as talented as HJ teams of the past, but they play just as hard and don’t give up. -

With the win tonight and a vidor loss, Lumberton can lock up a playoff spot with a win in either of their final two games. Vidor can force a playin game by beating lumberton and Jasper coupled with a lumberton loss to BC -

33-25 Huffman leads at the half. First time seeing them this year. This is by no means a typical HJ team, but I’ve been super impressed with Huffman’s defensive pressure. Nothing goes uncontested. -

HJ was down 18-11 with 3 seconds left until Huffman got hit with I guess a flagrant, followed by a technical. HJ made 3 of 4 free throws, then hit a 3 at the buzzer from the volleyball line to pull within one, 18-17 at the end of the first -

big time playoff implications in this one. L-town is currently in 4th, only 1 win up on Vidor, who still has the Jasper bye left on their schedule. There are several scenarios left for the 4th spot in this district, as Lumberton finishes their season away to Vidor. A win here for Lumberton would shift several of those scenarios in their favor, especially if Vidor can't pull off the upset vs BC. There's also a slim, but doable chance for Lumberton to make it up into a tie for 3rd with WOS, but that becomes just about impossible if they don't win tonight. -
Silsbee 100 Lumberton 49/FINAL

I miss those years where it was HJ/Silsbee fighting it out for district every year and then competing to make it to state. HJ has obviously dropped off some in the last 10 years or so, and Silsbee has gotten even better, but the whole landscape of 4A basketball is skewed due to all the houston teams in our region, combined with having to face the dallas teams if you make it to state. -

district is waaaaaaay down, though. The games might be a little closer, but a fraction of the team Silsbee is fielding this year could easily win this district, and will next year as well unless something crazy happens. That said, the playoffs will get interesting earlier than usual for the tigers. -
agreed. he's turned things around nicely at HF, and fielded consistently solid teams the last few years. He also comes with two sons who coach, not sure if they'd be a part of the package or not, but wouldn't surprise me. I'd hate to lose him, but at the rate he's applying for other jobs I'm sure he'll get picked up by somebody soon.

Not sure what they offered to replace them with, but if it’s not something that’s anchored to the walls I can understand why they said no. Those type of hang on goals are very common in little dribblers. A moveable standup goal can fall (especially when the bigger kids start trying to dunk on them), has to be stored on site, and also in most gyms wouldn’t fit under the 10 ft goals in place and the base would be in the court of play. Now if they’re offering to buy 10k adjustable units that hang from the ceiling then that’s a different story

If they lose the next one we’ll hear all about it though 🙄
