  1. Lumberton is not doing well either. they're sitting at 10-12. 9 of their wins coming against teams with BAD losing records, the majority of which are in lower divisions (although to be fair, the majority of their non-district is always like this). their one win against an opponent with a record above .500 was against a 3A school sitting at 11-8. Not exactly a marquee win. What's going on over there? Last year it was "injuries." Maybe it's something a little deeper, and their brief run of success had a lot more to do with their D1 player than other factors?
  2. What's up with the basketball team at WOS this year? They were pretty dang competitive last year, took out HJ in the playoffs and almost dropped Yates as well. 1-13 this year, and not really even any close games.
  3. Maradona was great, but not top 5. It’s really 1A) Messi, and 1B ) Ronaldo at this point, then everyone else. Nobody in the history of soccer has come close to their stats, and they’ve done it at the highest levels their entire careers against a generation of players that are head and shoulders above those that preceded them.
  4. Kind of a loaded question, as the game has changed so much. Are we going by versus who they played at the time, or overall ability? An average PGA tour player could go back in time and win just about every tournament. the numbers of Hall of Fame QB's line up with the bottom quarter of the league now. I don't think Pele's skill level would be good enough to crack the starting 11 of Brazil's team these days, but what he did back then was unprecedented. But that said, factoring in International and Club play, my top 5 would be: 1. Lionel Messi (2nd all time goal scoring leader, all time assist leader, WC champ). Spent the vast majority of his career at high ranking European clubs. 2. Christiano Ronaldo (all time goal scoring leader, 3rd all time assists, European champ) Spent the vast majority of his career at high ranking European clubs. 3. Pele (3rd all time leading goal scorer, 4x WC champ). Played weaker competition in Brazil before coming to the US and playing terrible competition. 4 and beyond: many debates can be had. Kylian Mbappe for France is 24 and is way ahead of Messi's pace of goals and assists at the club and national level. He also has as many world cup goals through 2 world cups as Pele did in 4. I think in 10-12 years He'll without a doubt be an easy inclusion to the all-time top-5 list, but the question is how high will he be. If he avoids injury and chooses to play into his late 30s he'll likely be the all-time leaders in goals, assists, and possibly world cup goals as well. There's a very good shot he's at the top of it when it's all said and done. An argument can almost be made to put him in the top-5 now. He's the Luka of soccer at this point. Can we say Luka is a top-5 all-time player? Not yet, but there's not much doubt he will be when he's done.
  5. There have been 8 touchdowns scored in less than 9 minutes of game play. I’ve never seen anything like this, and I’m not sure anyone has. What an insane game!
  6. Funny to me how HJ can have 5 losses (and some wins) against qualify 6A squads and drop, but on the boys side Silsbee stayed top with something like a 4-8 record playing the same type of schedule
  7. Fantastic result, but I’m wondering if pearland has some injuries or sickness or something. In the same tourney they lost to 7-11 Colleyville Heritage, and 14-10 Shadow Creek took them to OT. They’ve played a legit schedule with lots of really good wins, so it’s definitely not a case of them playing cupcakes and getting a good record.
  8. Motive is what has me the most curious. He was getting his phd in criminology. It kinda makes you wonder if he was some kind of psychopath trying to be the next Dexter, or if this was a crime of passion somehow
  9. Such a crazy case. Will be interested when more details come out
  10. Starting to think BU might actually have state chances in 6A. Still think there’s a high probability they slip up in the playoffs against bigger, better opponents, but they’re dang good
  11. I worked with a guy, really like him, and every time a police officer was near him it was due to race. BISD cop car parked at Sallie Curtis: it was because he had jogged past earlier. Pulled over for speeding and got a warning: he makes a giant Facebook post about how he feared for his life. Cop car behind him while he’s driving: looking for him to do something wrong. Like your buddy, this guy is a good dude, but nothing can convince him that every cop isn’t out to get him, even those he’s over 40 and has never been arrested, has gotten breaks on speeding tickets, etc. I’m with you, I don’t know how you fix it. Because there ARE instances where police murder people of color, and we aren’t really that far removed from police abusing minorities regularly. But these days it’s by far the rarest outcome, but is portrayed as an epidemic.
  12. I mean, she’s his fiancée, so I doubt he paid her off. It sounds like she tried retracting some of it before he was even arrested, which kinda lends some credence to his claim that she freaked out on him. Possibly made some false claims against him because she was mad.
  13. [Hidden Content] Beard’s fiancée saying he didn’t strangle her, that she told police that on scene, and that he was acting in self-defense against her. The question is how far will cancel culture take this, especially in as woke a town as Austin. If the guy has zero history of these types of incidents I don’t see how he can be fired at this point.
  14. A sad reality is that young African American men are taught that cops are out to kill them for no reason. By parents, by their community, and even more so by the media. The overwhelming amount of cop shootings are justified. A small handful (less than 20) of people are murdered by cops in the country every year, over the course of millions of contacts. Not even one of these is okay, but it’s absolutely the LEAST likely thing to happen during a police/citizen interaction. But because the media seizes on those handful of murders, African American males are scared of the police. And due to this, a large amount of JUSTIFIED police shootings stem from minorities freaking out during minor interactions and getting themselves shot. Every single day someone gets shot in this country because they try to fight with police after being stopped for a minor infraction, and it’s so unnecessary. And it’s a vicious cycle, because every one of those shootings, no matter how righteous, further perpetuates the idea that police want to kill minorities.
  15. Yet progressives like yourself don’t like to use the same maths when it comes to figuring up crime rates.
  16. Neither was any black person currently living, which is the point you’re missing
  17. Nonsense. They’re not committing crimes at the same rates. No police officer is going “well, he murdered him, but he’s white. Let’s just let him off with a warning.”
  18. That’s because there are 5x as many white people. Percentage wise, who gets more? That said, white people getting handouts don’t have any reason to better themselves either, but they’re not blaming Jim Crow laws and slavery for their not wanting to work in lieu of suckling on the government tit.
  19. I taught in inner city Beaumont for 15 years. Students had to be low socioeconomic to qualify for school. I’ve had several parents of students friend me on Facebook over the years, and every spring they’re posting about their tax returns of thousands of dollars (like $10k). I’ve even seen advertisements from tax services around town guaranteeing these giant returns. Most of them don’t work, or if they do it’s part time for minimum wage. Yet somehow they’re getting much larger tax returns than people working full time, well-paying jobs. Is that not reparations? One thing is for sure, they’re not using the money to better their situations. How much money would it take to make a difference? How many people would even use the money responsibly if they got it? Free housing, free phones, free insurance, free food. Sounds like reparations to me. And working more hours and getting better jobs disqualifies you from getting these freebies. if anything, the reparations already being handed out are discouraging African Americans from bettering themselves.
  20. HF should be as good or better than they were this year. Unlucky to be in this stacked district. I kind of expect a similar season to this past one, with a lot of close games between these four teams at the top. I tend to agree that HF finished fourth, but I think 2-4 could be interchangeable, depending on factors such as injuries, grades, and how well Jasper and WOS grow into their coaches systems during their second years.
