There's going to come a point where the ultra-left is going to alienate the common democrat. It feels like we're getting to that point, which is a great thing.

No, but Surratt still benefits from top-tier 4A talent, great facilities, etc. If Carthage had stayed old 4A (5A now) do you think he would have any championships? if so, how many? I would argue that no matter how good of a coach he is, he most likely wouldn't have a championship if Carthage hadn't dropped to the new 4A. It's possible they might've made a few pretty deep runs. Another question for you: do you think there are hundreds of coaches of this quality to choose from, and places like PNG are just too stupid to get them? Do you think any top-tier coach wants to come live in southeast texas and coach at a school with inferior athletes and superior fan interference? There are a limited number of these coaches, and no matter how good they are there's still a limit to what they can do at a place. Very few coaches are going to leave high paying, high profile jobs to come out here, but Barber's Hill is proving that bringing in that marquee coach isn't worth that many wins with the limited talent available.

the announcer on NFHS/TexanLive calling the BU/Texas City game last night said he'd be doing the HJ game Friday, but it's not posted on the NFHS lineup yet.

they have a very good team. only losses on the year are to 5a #12 Royce City by 9, 4A #5 Midlothian Heritage by 5, 6A Private Bishop Lynch by 13, and 6A San Angelo Central by 13. They have several solid wins this year, including that impressive 50-point win they just put up against a 34-4 Palestine. All that said, HJ has several wins over teams as good or better than the teams that have beaten La Vega. There aren't any common opponents this season, but playing connect the dots, HJ beat ranked 5A Red Oak by 13, Red Oak just beat Royse City by 8, and Royse City beat La Vega by 9. So HJ should win by 30 (just kidding). All things said, I'll take HJ by 15, but this is the first opponent they've played in almost two months that will be good enough to win if the hawks play badly, or if they get a few key players in foul trouble. HJ only beat La Vega by 7 last year, and this year's La Vega team is better, although the Hawks are a lot better than last year as well, IMO.

Has the game started? NFHS says it’s delayed -
fun little bit of math for you: there are 253 5A schools in Texas. considering that there are two divisions, the best case scenario for coaches using your logic is that 239 of 253 coaches in 5A would need to be replaced every 7 years. when your "requirements" at best allow only 7% of all coaches to be considered a success, you need to adjust your requirements, especially when you're only using one factor to judge that success. You're literally saying that 251 out of 253 coaches each year have failed. It's still a really silly argument, no matter how many times you double down on it. You're also completely ignoring the fact that "championship type coaches" can't win championships with the talent at the majority of high schools in texas on a yearly basis. You could put Surratt at HJ and he wouldn't win a championship with the talent they have there, not if you gave him 2 decades, unless a special group came through. He would've had a shot or two with the group they had come through when Padgett was there, but I don't think his coaching would've been enough to overcome the talent/coaching that WOS had at the time.
-
The amount of talent on that HJ team is unreal. Obviously having one of the top couple of players in any classification in Texas is a huge part of it, but I think they’ll have a very good shot at returning to state the next couple of years as well with what they’ll have after she graduates.

With no Sears this was always going to be a difficult matchup for the hawks. WOS as a 4th seed is tough. -
HJ VS NAVASOTA - HJ WINS BIG!

Not claiming they’re a powerhouse, but it’s hard to get to 28 wins in a season. -

And did it with all of this type of nonsense surrounding the team. He could go 11-23 next year and it’ll probably feel like a win to him after dealing with this stuff all year. -
HJ VS NAVASOTA - HJ WINS BIG!

Navasota was 28-10. They’re not a bad team at all. #1 Argyle beat 25-10 Stephensville 56-41 tonight, for comparison purposes. -
That move is also called "The Nelson."

gotta consider all the playoff games leading up to the superbowl that are decided by last second fgs. and teams getting into the playoffs with last second fgs. it's not just the last 5 seconds of the super bowl where these kicks decide championships.

It's also nice seeing my alma mater, HJ, improving. they went about 3 seasons without winning a game, and were losing every game 10-0 or worse. to see them picking up a few wins, and only giving up a couple of goals a game is tremendous improvement.

Buddy coaches at Huffman. They lost a ton of starters last year, and had 3 of their seniors go out for the season before it ever started. They've also played a very tough schedule. They seem to be turning the corner, tying EC the other day, which is a fantastic result.

Even their super liberal mayor criticized them: “The voters of this City have delivered a clear message that the School Board must focus on the essentials of delivering a well-run school system above all else,” said Mayor London Breed, a fellow Democrat, in a statement on Tuesday night. “It’s time we refocus our efforts on the basics of providing quality education for all students, while more broadly improving how this city delivers support for children and families.” Breed, one of the most liberal mayors in one of the most liberal cities in America, had previously criticized the board for prioritizing “political agendas” over the actual intended functions of the board.
-
From the article: Parents in the city accused the board or prioritizing “woke” politics and “social justice” issues – such as altering murals and, rather famously, working tirelessly to rename schools named after figures including George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and even Diane Feinstein – instead of focusing on getting children back to school and protecting their education.

You guys know I'm pretty moderate, but lean right in most areas. That said, I don't hate the left, but some of the nonsense that's come from that direction the last several years is terrifying to me. In this article you can read about the residents of San Francisco (arguably the most liberal city in the country) recalling three ultra-liberal school board members and removing them from the board. It seems that the far-left in San Francisco care more about their children getting a good education than catering to the insane, ultra-work agenda of the furthest left. It restores my hopes in humanity a bit. ‘It’s a Bloodbath’: Deep Blue San Francisco Overwhelmingly Votes to Recall Far-Left School Board Members (msn.com)

Sounds like they should’ve done that campfire formation. -
I don’t really ever put any stock in maxpreps. They use a computer formula that clearly doesn’t work.

yes, last week I think. There was a thread about it in HS football. He'd been active on here as recently as 2 weeks or so ago.

I also think HJ should be #1 over Argyle, despite their undefeated record. HJ with respectable losses to 6A #2 Summer Creek, 6A #6 Duncanville, and 6A Plano who are 25-9 out of the toughest basketball area in the state. HJ has wins over 6A #10 Austin, 6A #7 Cedar Hill, 6A #13 Houston Memorial , and 6A #23 SA Wagner. They have a win against 5A #20 Red Oak. They won in tournaments against #13 (all classifications) Lovejoy out of Georgia, and the #1 team (all classifications) from Colorado, Valor Christian. HJ's non-district schedule consisted of 21 games: 13 6A opponents, 6 of whom who are ranked, 2 5A schools, one ranked, and 3 4A schools, plus two highly ranked teams from out of state. 19 of 21 of those teams have winning records, and 20 of 21 made the playoffs. There is one tournament game where the opponent is not listed, but I would love to know who it was, because it's one HJ's few losses on the season. Argyle has wins against 3A #15 Gunter, 4A #8 Kennedale, 4A #9 Levelland, 6A #15 FW Boswell, 5A #8 Georgetown, which is pretty impressive, but their schedule has been MUCH easier than the Hawks, playing in a 3A tourney and a 4A tourney, where as the hawks played in 6A and national tourneys only.
-
Still crazy to me that Fairfield went to the 4A final 2 years ago and then got to drop a classification. They should be #1 over Canadian, who's entire schedule seems to have been against 1A and 2A teams, albeit good ones.

I like a lot of music. My middle and high school years I was heavy into alt rock and grunge. College and mid-20s i was big into emo, which most people on here haven't heard of, but know some of the bands most likely. These days I still listen to all of those styles, but I enjoy old country and classic rock as well. I can listen to just about anything except for rap, modern country (outlaw country is okay), and some pop.
