  1. sounds like AAW and Ashly Elam both did in this thread already. That's about as good as you're gonna get on here.
  2. $2000 a month of food stamps is crazy. We're able to afford what we want and my family of four doesn't spend but around half of that a month on food at the grocery store. And that's with these goofy prices.
  3. Pretty excited about this, ngl.
  4. no doubt that's a big part of it. but you're right about BISD deserving blame.
  5. What's wild to me is that two of the three schools that the company ran scored an F last year.

  7. and calling other members racists, especially moderators, will make your account disappear. So... bye. Hopefully this can be a cautionary tale for those members who've been making a habit out of insulting and name-calling. We're going to start purging those members or lose the political forum completely, so please tone it down a little.
  8. Huffman should be very good this year. HF is still going to be a solid team, but they lost some huge pieces last season. Their offense will go as far as Broussard, Pirtle, and Reed can take them. The defense has some holes to fill as well, but it seems like every year some kids fill in and become big time players in the LB core and secondary. Here's hoping HF can get close to the level they were at last year. This district we're in is no joke.
  9. I worked in inner city Beaumont for 15 years, exclusively with families below the poverty line. Lots of them do things right, but lots of them abuse the system. To pretend the abuse isn’t rampant is silly. As someone who devoted what will end up being around half of my professional career to helping and working with the impoverished, I have no issue with more restrictions on what government handouts are used for. Nobody should starve, but other people’s tax money shouldn’t be spent on luxuries.
  10. And only a half game back (of two teams) in the wild card after being 6-7 games back a few weeks ago
  11. Walk it off! 5 straight and 9 of 11!
  12. What a crazy stat line. Also crazy that he’s a 22-yo rookie batting .305 with 23 homers
  13. This team is finally starting to show a little bit of that spark they had a couple of seasons ago. Hopefully they can keep stacking up series wins. They’re 8-2 over their last 10. This is the first time they’ve looked this good since they started the season 8-2

  16. Curious how this plays out, but I don’t know that it’ll end well.
  17. I found the guy killed on fb because I thought I recognized the name. He’s got motorcycles as well. Doubt it’s coincidental considering how this went down. Definitely a targeted attack
  18. [Hidden Content] shot dead while mowing his lawn
  19. Bryant pitched really well, but benefited from some great defense behind her, and also the extra 20 ft to center field that the UT field has. They hit one and maybe two balls that would’ve been out of any other field she’s pitched on this year. So she shut them out for the first 5, but I wouldn’t say she shut them down. She also gave up a homer after she came back in. That said, it was unfortunate that Nutter struggled considering the year she’s had. And I don’t know why the coach left her in as long as he did. BH got completely shut down until the 7th, and then had a chance to steal one. But Melissa looked the better team the entire game. That team is unreal!
  20. Barring a miracle UTSA is about to beat UT for the second time in 3 days and put them out. That UTSA lineup is stacked!
  21. My grandmother is in the final stages of Alzheimer’s. It’s a horrible disease.
  22. Hard to watch. Flat out beat themselves. Base running cost them at least 3 runs, including 2 in the final inning that would’ve won it.
  23. The abuse is able-bodied adults in their 20s, 30s, and 40s choosing not to work so they can suck off the government teat. The amazing thing is that for a long time those same folks could get income tax returns of up to $10,000. Another common fraud is filing for benefits as head of household as a “single mother” when the father lives in the house. I saw that multiple times every year when I worked in Beaumont. That said, you’re absolutely right that there is plenty of fraud perpetrated by providers. If the visit is free for the patient, do they ever really pay attention to what services the office is charging to Medicaid?
  24. Yes we will. If I start hearing about people truly in need being denied in large numbers (not an occasional mistake that the media will surely jump on) then I will rescind my support.
