  1. Surely this is smoke and mirrors. They’re winning state next season, right?
  2. DEVELOPING: Suspect dies after chase ends in Chambers County with crash, shots fired | KFDM
  3. yes, i saw that. hopefully everything continues to go well.
  4. It’s definitely political. I understand some distrust of both a new vaccine and the government, but it’s a shame that politics are costing a lot of people their lives. I guess it’s always been that way, though.
  5. We had a lot of speculation on this one awhile back, but it appears the police were just taking their time since the suspect was already in jail on other warrants.
  6. I got the moderna, two jabs, a month apart. My arm hurt a lot the first time. Felt like I got hit by a hammer for about 24 hours. I was a little tired the day after (woke up at 7, took a short nap around 9, went to bed pretty early. The second shot didn’t hurt at all, again I was a little tired the next day, but very busy and my sleep pattern was normal. My wife was achy and tired for a couple of days after her first shot, a little tired after the second. My stepdad had no side effects, stepmom no side effects, my real dad a little tired. All of them had moderna except my dad, who got the Pfizer
  7. I don’t worry about their safety. Kids don’t seem to be affected much by it, generally. My kids had it last summer, one had no symptoms, the other a mild headache for a couple of days. The problem we run into is when they’re exposed we have to shut down for 10 days, can’t send them anywhere, and have to stay home with them. Or pay twice the daycare rate to someone who’s willing to risk being around them. It’s just all such a tough situation.
  8. It’s a tough line to walk. You’re basically saying that your argument is that no safeguards should be enforced. I struggle between not wanting people to be told what to do, but also having an issue with how many people take zero precautions and are fueling the pandemic. many people aren’t being “responsible citizens” and are spreading the virus at record rates. I don’t know what the answer is, honestly. I don’t think people should be forced to take the vaccine. I wish more people would, and the numbers are showing the benefits of doing so. Many people I know who were against it are now taking it. I’ve talked to people who didn’t, got very sick, and now wish they had. I still know people who haven’t gotten sick, or were lucky and it was mild, that are still anti-vaccine. I know a (very small) handful of people who got hit hard by Covid that are still completely anti-vax. That should be their right. I don’t have a problem with mask mandates, especially in private businesses. They do help to some degree, and it’s still really strange to me that people who are required to wear and do many things by law have decided that wearing a mask to slow the spread of disease is somehow the greatest infringement on their liberties of the 21st century. I didn’t have a single case of flu or Covid spread in my classroom the entire school year last year, and we wore masks and had social distancing, and shut down briefly during one of the local severe outbreaks. We also required a mandatory wait time to return to school for anyone who was exposed, and sent home classes and busses that had known cases for two weeks. It was a sucky year, but we stayed healthy. Almost nobody at work now is wearing masks or social distancing. I don’t have a choice but to be around them. I mean, technically I have a choice, I could quit my job, but that’s not a realistic option for people who need to feed their families. I chose to get vaccinated, so the risk to me is fairly small, but other people’s choices still affect me. For instance my kids had to go to daycare the last two weeks when my wife and I went back to work, but before school starts. Several unvaccinated workers at the daycare got sick early this week, and I’m now having to pay a substantial daily rate to a babysitter to watch the kids while we work, and also having to wait and see if my unvaccinated kids get sick. So their choices have certainly affected me significantly. So all that said, I don’t know what should or should not be enforced, but it’s also pretty clear that letting people “live as responsible citizens” isn’t working. People who want to be “responsible citizens” generally don’t have a choice as to whether or not they’re going to be around the irresponsible.
  9. A couple of months ago our local hospitals had some days with zero new Covid patients. Currently they’re having to put up temporary medical tents outside of the hospital due to having so many patients. I would assume they’re pretty overwhelmed, and have heard as much from some hospital workers I know.
  10. Some charts showing illnesses by state in vaccinated vs. unvaccinated people. Breakthrough cases are certainly occurring, but the numbers are certainly baring out the efficacy of the vaccine.
  11. Last numbers I saw from the CDC is that 90% of new cases, and over 95% of hospitalizations and deaths are occurring among the unvaccinated. So I guess if nothing else the curve will flatten out when enough unvaccinated have gotten sick, but hospitals are being overwhelmed in the process.
  12. 567 new cases yesterday, nearly 1000 in two days. Is it time to start putting at least some precautions back in place until it dies back down some?
  13. I have dogs on my lease all the time. I don’t like them there, but I wouldn’t shoot one unless it was growling at me on my way to the stand or something.
  14. Spent some time around Coach Kenebrew yesterday at HF’s new teacher orientation. He seems like a really good guy. Appears very humble and genuine.
  15. They’ll still be playing for a bronze. Would be nice to see them lose that one as well, but even if they win this Olympics has been a disaster for them.
  16. To be legal they have to be attacking a pet, person, or livestock.
  17. I don’t disagree with the fact that this year was the year that they had a shot at state. Silsbee and Yates were both way down, and it was probably the most talented team he’s had at HJ. Had they made it through that first game and got some guys healthy, and through the suspension of their best player, they had a chance to make a deep run. But as for the three rounds deep comment, until this year there was exactly one local team with the talent to make it past the third round since 2015, and it wasn’t HJ. I don’t care how good of a coach someone is, they’re not taking a couple of D3 guys and a bunch of roll players and beating teams from houston full of 6’5” to 6’9” guys with D1 talent (or Silsbee with its three D1 players). There comes a point where coaching ability can’t make up a gap in talent and athleticism. I remember going and watching HJ play Houston Sterling in the 2nd round in 2015. HJ had a good team that year, but Sterling had 9 guys on their roster over 6’2, and had four starters between 6’4” and 6’7”. HJ played a fantastic game and lost by 11. Sterling made it to the state finals. Those are the kinds of teams HJ has consistently faced in the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs. Coach K isn’t winning those matchups. Look what happened with lumberton this year. Had a D1 player and some other solid guys around him and got ran out of the gym by Huffman because they just couldn’t compete with the talent. Or is the Huffman coach just that much better? And this year’s huffman team would’ve gotten run out of the gym by the Yates and Silsbee teams from a few years ago that Davis couldn’t get past.
  18. The problem with max preps is not every game gets posted. Actual records of HJ under Davis: 14-15: 28-8 15-16: 26-9 16-17: 24-14 17-18: 31-10 18-19: 28-10 19-20: 27-12 20-21: 20-6 (no tournaments) district record during that span: 65-11 (includes 4 district champ/co-champ and 3 district runner ups)
  19. Or finishing district runner up to the state championship Silsbee teams with three D1 players.
  20. The program didn’t get yates in the 2nd or 3rd round most years before he coached there. You’re a broken record. Just say you don’t like him, because you’re ignoring the obvious while repeating the same arguments over and over. HJ has had less talent and faced MUCH tougher playoff competition since he took over. He’s still kept them in the hunt for district championships and won playoff games every year but one. If you think Sutherland would’ve done any better against Silsbee and Yates over the last 6 or 7 years you’re delusional.
