  1. The problem is that too many people with too much influence are not taking a reasonable stance on this shooting. I completely understand the African American community's distrust of the police. For a long time mistreatment was commonplace and widespread. Things are a LOT better now. But as long as the media continues to show the rare outlier 24/7 (George Floyd, Walter Scott, Philando Castile), and as long as activists try to make issues out of legitimate shootings (which are about 99% of police shootings), there's never going to be much improvement. You have people with millions of followers tweeting for justice for MaKhia Bryant. Now millions of people immediately assume the cop did something wrong. People are watching the video questioning why a cop needs to shoot someone trying to stab someone with a knife. It's asinine. I saw a video awhile back of a young black man getting shot because he shot at an officer. His brother witnessed this and claimed to the media he was unarmed. Before bodycam footage was released, dozens of activists tweeted and posted and instagrammed about this grave injustice. Millions of people were outraged over this young "unarmed man" being killed for "no reason". Then the bodycam came out, proving his brother a liar, and none of those activists mentioned it again. They let the outrage fester, and did not admit they were wrong and that the officer was right. For things to get better, we need justice for people who are unjustly killed by police. But we also need for police who are doing their job properly to be allowed to do it, without fear of being convicted of murder when they're part of completely justified shootings. It's a really difficult situation.
  2. I like that bill. I don't need it, though. I already sold all my guns in the parking lot of a gun show. No, I didn't catch the guy's name, and he paid cash for all of them.
  3. I thought you were talking about a new Beaumont massage parlor until I opened the thread.
  4. It's amazing to me how many people are legitimately upset that a police officer shot a person who was actively trying to murder two other people. [Hidden Content]
  5. He was guilty of a crime, but as others stated, murder wasn't appropriate. I wouldn't be surprised if an appeal is effective to some degree. I also don't at all blame the jurors for finding him guilty and getting the heck out of dodge. There's no way the question "what will happen if we don't find him guilty on all charges" wasn't asked in the deliberations.
  6. I see things the opposite. In today's social climate I don't think there's any way that 12 people could agree on an acquittal that quickly considering the ramifications. My guess is manslaughter, but who knows. I've seen some cops convicted of murder recently where it certainly wasn't the correct charge based on the law.
  7. I spent about 15 minutes replying to this and then my response disappeared so... Yes, it happened the way TVC says it did. I went on approximately 40-50 ridealongs over 5 or 6 years with him, and I saw over and over that the police weren't out to bust anybody's balls, and cut breaks whenever they could. Pretty much every tense situation I ever witnessed between police and civilians was escalated by the civilian.
  8. Are his players going with him? It was kinda fun having HF relevant for a couple of years.
  9. Yes, they do. But he asked how one takes a moderate look at the constitution. In general with a lot more common sense and a literal interpretation, whereas justices with strong ideological leanings either direction tend to come up with some pretty creative interpretations that benefit their party and political beliefs. As for your "all levels" comment, it's always been amazing to me how some no-name biased circuit judge from Buttcrack, Oregon can make a ruling on some national policy and it shuts the whole thing down.
  10. They don't politicize their interpretation of it in an effort to push rulings as far left or right as possible. And yes, there is plenty of interpretation to be had, which is why the supreme court has been making constitutional rulings since the 19th century. "As the final arbiter of the law, the Court is charged with ensuring the American people the promise of equal justice under law and thereby, also functions as guardian and interpreter of the Constitution."
  11. yeah, it's pretty terrifying. IMO, in a perfect world the entire supreme court would be filled with moderates. our country is split fairly close to 50/50 conservative/liberal. I want a supreme court that will take EVERYONE into account when making their decisions, not just their political ideologies. that said, as long as the left basically has total control, I definitely want a conservative court. It's insane to think that the left has narrow margins in the house, there's a tie in the senate, and they won the presidency by a narrow margin, but now they can alter the makeup of the supreme court and take total control. The idea that the slimmest majority can completely alter every aspect of the political landscape doesn't set well with me at all. It would be different if we were talking about 80% of the country wanting these changes.
  12. Never tried it. I just buy DJ’s now. Far prefer it to zummos
  13. We use Texjoy BBQ seasoning. Clean the crabs well, coat them with texjoy, fill the cavity with garlic butter. Put on the grill cavity side up and cook for about 8 min, then once the butter has cooked in flip and let them go 2-3 more minutes. Absolutely delicious, and simple to do. Kinda reminds me of Sartin’s as well
  14. We've been barbecuing blue crabs a lot lately. I wish you could post pics on here like back in the old days. You only have to see a pic to understand how good they are. I've been blackening speckled trout a lot as well.
  15. I miss that restaurant. Was only about a 10 min drive from my house. I liked their EJ special (or something like that) with two cheese stuffed boudain balls covered in chicken and sausage gumbo. Their boudain was the best that I've had around here.
  16. [Hidden Content] Still doesn't identify the officer, but has some info.
  17. we all already knew this. i've been telling people for a year that it's possible for something to be bad, but for the media to still try and make it seem worse than it is for political or financial gain.
  18. Incredible season for HH and coach McDermand!
  19. 2-0 final. Huffman fought hard and had a really good run of play the last 20 minutes or so. Drew a foul that could’ve easily been a PK, but was ruled to be just outside the box
  20. Gulf in class showing. Boerne is definitely the class of 4A. Huffman was unlucky in the first half, hitting the crossbar with a long range shot. It went down off the bar, and I thought it went across the line and then spun out, but no goal was given.
  21. Absolutely agree. The thing about it is when most people screw up at their job, there aren't any consequences. The person at Sonic put mustard on my burger, they give me a new burger. The cashier accidently rang my new shoes up twice, she can take one of them off the receipt. There aren't any do-overs when you fire a bullet, whether you're justified or not, or if it was a complete accident as it was in this case.
  22. A criminal made an incredibly stupid decision, and an officer made an incredibly stupid mistake. Had Wright simply followed orders none of this would've happened, but the officer still screwed up on a monumental scale. One of the points I used to try to make when we could still have conversations about these things without being called racist anytime you side with the police is this: when you resist arrest or fight the police, you put them in a situation where they're more likely to have to make a split decision, and thus in a situation where they're more likely to make a mistake. It's a vicious cycle, honestly. People in the black community have seen enough legitimately bad acts against them from law enforcement to have a reasonable fear and distrust of police. But that fear and distrust leads young black men to do moronic things when they encounter police, which leads to many more police shootings. This case is a perfect example. Had this kid cooperated, the female cop would've never mistakenly pulled her gun, thinking it was her tazer. If the kid hadn't tried to drive off, she would not have pulled the trigger, thinking she was tasing him, while instead shooting him. It's not Wright's fault that the officer made a huge mistake, but his actions led to her being put in the position to make the mistake.
