Somerset beat a couple of good teams at regionals to get here. What I really am curious about was their 4-point win against a team with a 13-20 record in the first round of the playoffs. That result tells me they’re plenty beatable.

To say the least. 36-1 with a 7-point loss to Argyle on the year. They beat Hirschi 4A #7, who lost in the regional quarters, spanked 4A #11 midlothian heritage by 18, who were beaten in the 4a regional semis in a close game by Seminole, who made it to state, beat 3a Kountze regional semi finalists by 16, and have won their playoff games by 45 or more until their regional final game, which they only won by 22. Lipan could possibly make it to state in 3A.

I was kind of under the impression that he took himself out of the game by fouling everyone who stepped near him...

Yup, let the 6’10” guy run the floor at silsbees for about a quarter and a half and we’ll see how effective he is.

I was about to make a post when I saw this one. When’s the last time we were represented in 4 classifications at state?

The whole region is insane, once you add in broaddus, evadale, lufkin pineywoods, grapeland, and big sandy to the teams listed above. 4,5,6,8,11,12, and 17 in the state in just 3 2A districts in our coverage area.

I thought all that depth was supposed to let Yates outrun the tigers. Looks like it was silsbee who ran them down at the end.

This is a very winnable game. On paper I’d say an easier opponent than Laneville, but obviously they’re still a good team to have made it this far.

This is absolutely stunning news. Just saw this on kfdm. I’m in shock right now. He was a great athlete, and by all accounts a great kid.

I tend to agree. After the pump game the kid was going back up in a shooting motion and got hammered, at least to my unbiased eye from the angle I watched

If they’d done the reasonable thing and played at Barbers Hill I could at least give live updates. I doubt anyone will drive all the way to SHSU to broadcast this game.

I’ll be pleased if HJ keeps it within 20. I won’t be surprised if they lose by 30-35.
