HF may not have the talent that some of the other schools in the district have, but they definitely have some ball players out there. Hopefully Seymour can get them moving in the right direction. He's going to have some pieces to work with next year.

sorry, WOS. when someone insinuates that the district not only can't keep coaches, but doesn't deserve them because of an incident taking place at that school, it becomes relevant. when that person clearly has no idea about what actually happened, or any clue about the illness or why it was caused, I'm not letting it slide... especially when a family friend was involved, and I know ALL about what happened. This fool gets on here and hates everything southeast texas, and craps on pretty much every program at every school if he can find even the slightest reason to. it gets old. it became relevant because he's blaming that incident on HF losing this baseball coach (even though the coach came in after it happened). As for the rest of your post: I won't comment as to the quality of the coach, but I will comment on the pre-district .642 winning percentage. They won 9 games before district: Two wins against central, one against ozen, one against PAM, and 4 against schools in lower classifications. Their one 4A win was against 7-15 liberty. For what that's worth... I know that HF is in a very tough district, but they have enough talent over there to make things at least a little interesting.

man, you're an expert on everything, including southeast texas hospitals? but to answer your question, no, they weren't, at least not the most severe cases. when the child I knew went to the hospital in Beaumont they wouldn't touch him, sent him straight to Houston due to the seriousness of the issue. but yeah, I'm sure it was just a little dehydration.

When talking about dark urine in relation to dehydration, we all have been there. It's a dark yellow rather than the clear color it should be. But I challenge anyone to lie and say that they pissed this color when they were dehydrated. I saw a picture of a container of urine from the kid from HF when he was in the hospital, and it was darker than this. But yeah, definitely he was just dehydrated from being so soft.

If by "got me" you mean that he's completely wrong and doesn't have any idea what he's talking about, then yeah, he got me GOOD!

It's a made up disease? Time to take off your tinfoil hat. I know the kid who spent a week in the hospital from the "made up" disease. While big pharmacy was making this disease up, how did they get into his body and turn his pee the color of coffee? I've been tired, out of shape, sleep deprived, and dehydrated, many times, and I never went through anything like the symptoms that he (and apparently every other athlete, according to you) experienced. sounds like you're quite the expert. Ive got this weird rash that I need to swing buy and let you diagnose for me. As for the coach, you're right, he wasn't charged. It's a double standard. If I punished my son by making him exercise until he had to be put in the ICU do you think it would work out the same way for me?

the whole "macho old man argument" that was thrown out during the investigation of the incident about how soft kids are today, and how "when I was a kid our coach made us...". if you know people in the community who know about what happened, then you must have a really strong explanation about how three kids simultaneously came down with a rare, muscle-eating disease caused exclusively from excessive workouts, and how it definitely had nothing to do with the extreme workouts (without proper access to water) that the athletes were subjected to several days in a row. your dismissal (and misinformed characterization of the events) of what happened to those athletes based on "knowing people from the community" destroys any credibility your argument had.

glad to see that the ignorance on this issue from people outside of the community, with no more information on the matter other than "when I was a kid, we blah blah blah blah" hasn't died out yet. to be fair, I'm a libertarian, and have strong leanings in both directions about different issues. but I appreciate the compliment, because one thing I do try to do is take a logical look at every issue from both sides before commenting on it.

While I feel that this is almost assuredly an accurate statement, I sure would like to see the body and dash cam footage to see exactly what happened. The footage from those cameras will have a large amount to do with how severe his punishment ends up being. he's charged with murder now, but it's likely going to be difficult to prove. we'll see how this all plays out.

When you look at the cases that are thrown around, very few of the people who are shot are innocent. A better question is why does the media strive so hard to turn justifiable shootings of young black men by white cops into race baiting news stories? The amount of heinously bad killings by cops is extremely low. We're talking about maybe 1 or 2 a year where you can honestly look at it and say "that was murder", and there's no reasonable defense to the officer's actions (the Walter Scott shooting, for example). When you consider the hundreds of millions of police interactions a year with the public (many of which are with violent criminals), that number is very good. We all make mistakes at our job, but most of our jobs aren't life and death. a bad decision by a police officer could mean someone is killed, and police have to make these decisions knowing that the person who might be killed if they make a mistake is themselves. When you consider that, it's amazing that they show the restraint that they do. As for the "white officers shooting innocent black people", while I disagree with the media as to just how "innocent" most of the "victims" are in these shootings, it's mostly a numbers game. Approximately 73% of law enforcement officers in the US are white. Around 12% are black. Add to that the fact that black males commit a disproportionate amount of the violent crimes in the US (8% of the population committing well over 40% of violent crimes), and the odds of a white officer responding to a call involving a black perpetrator or complainant is extremely high, and happens thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of times daily across the country. It's really no surprise that a good chunk of police shootings involve white officers and black criminals, and when they don't, the news has little to no incentive to report about it.

Gonna have to pass on making the drive to see that one...

And I can't imagine the reaction from the left if Texas aTm had offered a course 8 years ago that accused Obama of race-baiting and declared that the course would discuss, and possibly engage in, strategies for resistance.

if that's the case then he's guilty of exactly what he's been charged with.

the most recent account I've seen was that the vehicle was running in reverse, ignoring commands to stop. then they shifted gears and started going forward, at which point the shot was fired. what I'm wondering is whether the officer who shot was near the front of the car (following it while it was backing away), and when they kicked it into drive and started heading forward if he then was in/near the path of the vehicle and fired the shot. it would appear at this point that the officer used horrible judgment in shooting at the car. Perhaps a bodycam video will shed some light on the situation. If the video shows that the car is trying to hit him, or driving in a manner that put his life in significant danger, then while I'm not a fan of firing blindly into a car in most situations, I can understand why he feared for his life. If the car is passing by him without the officer having to move out of the way and he fires into the car as they drive by, that's a different matter.

this has absolutely no bearing on the case. Any time someone intentionally kills someone else it's called a homicide. Even if it is determined that the cop did nothing wrong, it will still be ruled a homicide. I'm not taking the cop's side on this one, just explaining to you. If you break into my house and try to shoot me, and I end up killing you, the coroner would still rule your death a homicide, even though I have committed no crime while protecting myself. I can tell that you're posting this because you took this to mean that the coroner is saying the kid was murdered. While this may be the finding of investigators later, the article here doesn't add anything to what we know. It was already known that the cop had shot the kid, which was all this ruling is stating.
