Houston Yates vs Waco Connelly Updates
bullets13 replied to BADSANTA's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Yates barely beat a pretty good team with a 26-12 team who played a decent schedule. They also lost a game to north forest. I'm not saying they can't beat silsbee, but if they do it would be similar to Silsbee's loss to jasper at regionals awhile back -
Not good

“I’m not going to stoop and apologize and grovel and feel bad about it,” she said. “I would just be going back to when I was little, and had to be what everybody else told me I should be – to make them happy.” Does it sound to anyone else that she's claiming that as a young child she had to pretend to like being white to make those around her happy? Because that's how I read it. Which is ludicrous. While some of us may disagree on which characteristics children can be born with, I think we can all safely agree that there's no "black culture" gene that she felt like she had to suppress to keep her parents happy

we're not disagreeing. I said AS LONG AS they can turn their games into pressing and layup drills, they won't miss him much. Meaning that if they end up in a half court game, his absent will be felt more. I still don't think it will be enough to derail them, but it will be more noticeable. they have 10-12 incredible athletes that can run the press, out-jump and outrun opponents, and make contested and uncontested layups, etc. If the game is slowed down, not having his skill in the half-court game and his defense/rebounding when their opponent gets to set their offense will make a bigger impact. so basically, we agree

Silsbee's depth, but also their style is what has and will allow them to overcome losing McCain. They've got 5 or 6 guys on the bench every game that would start for most 4A (or 5A) teams in the state, so losing a player, even one of Devon's caliber, is greatly offset when you can bring in another quality starter to take his place. But to me, their style is what really makes the difference. When you've got a court full of freak athletes who can run, dribble, pass, shoot, and play defense, it's a lot easier to offset losing one guy. Due to the crazy pace that they play at, they don't need to "get it into the hands of their stud". they've got 5 studs on the court at all times, and the stud they get it to is the one who's closest to the basket on a fast break, or the one who's open in the corner for 3. Rarely do they have to slow down and play a half-court game, which is where McCain's added bit of quality would be missed more on the offensive end. As long as they can continue to turn their games into pressing and layup drills, his absence shouldn't play a major factor.

this is a fairly reasonable statement.

Silsbee vs Waco La Vega Friday 8pm Huntsville

Silsbee 102 La Vega 66 -
They're a pretty decent team from what I can tell, nothing more. Probably not much better if any than Silsbee's last two opponents. They have some pretty bad losses on the year. One to 2A #18 Grapeland, 2 losses to teams with losing records. Fairly solid, but I see another 30+ point win for silsbee if they play anywhere close to what they're capable of. AAW probably has a more educated take on it. I can only go by what I see on paper.

Italy has an impressive record, but looking at some common opponents it seems as if Big Sandy has a very good chance in this one. -
Houston Yates 92 Huffman Hargrave 82/FINAL

If Silsbee and Yates face off it should get ugly. I haven't seen yates, but Huffman and HJ played 3 games dang near evenly, and HJ did really well to ONLY lose by 30-something the other night to Silsbee, and if Silsbee had shot even halfway decently from the line it would've been over 40. North Forest beat yates by almost 20 once, and lost a fairly close game to them the second time. Silsbee could've beaten north forest by 50 last night had coach sig chosen to. Here's hoping that matchup happens. -
