  1. Yes on the economy and fiscal decisions, but you think Trump won and the right gained seats in the house and senate because "most Americans" are looking for high morals and integrity? Surely even you can see the irony in that statement. Trump won despite his lack of morals and integrity. The country is looking for help with the border, inflation, and crime. They're tired of being talked down to by the left. They're NOT looking for a religious revival. The voters that swung this thing are not interested in conservative morality at all, they just want to be able to afford groceries and not get mugged on their way to buy them. The quickest thing the right can do to lose this mandate is force morality on the majority of the country that doesn't agree with it or doesn't agree the govt should be regulating it. It would be typical of the right (or left, if the roles were reversed) to think that a less than 1.5% popular vote win against an entirely unelectable presidential candidate is a green light to start pushing radical legislation, though.
  2. they've played three good teams this year and lost two of them fairly convincingly. The Glen Rose win does look nice, but I've read a lot about this not being the same GR team that has advanced to state the last couple of years. I don't expect them to be a cakewalk, but I don't think they'd do better than 4th in our district, even with silsbee and jasper being down this year.
  3. Trump education secretary hopeful floats national mandate to require Bibles in school classrooms Above I posted an article that contains exactly the sort of thing the right has to avoid while they have a mandate. Republicans have a chance to make massive changes in areas like foreign trade, the border, crime reform, the economy, and even to some degree social issues like men in women's sports/locker rooms. but if the right makes the mistake of overstepping and forcing ultra-conservative requirements on everyone they'll lose the house AND the senate at the midterm. One only has to look at the 94 Republican mandate with Gingrich's "Contract With America." Republicans took over the house and senate, and already had the oval office. Republicans mistook this for unfettered support when in fact the country was just "firing the democrats." Republicans went crazy with ultra-conservative policy, and two years later Bill Clinton was elected and republicans had substantial losses in the house and senate. Implement strong conservative policies in the areas that the country has told you are important to them, and where you'll get support. Don't make the mistake of trying to force conservatism in all areas onto the country. Our country as a whole is way less conservative than it was in 1996 when the country terminated the republican mandate.
  4. I'm going to qualify this a bit: a slot-t run with average athletes and execution is difficult for weak teams to stop, but not good teams and coaches. But a slot-t with stud athletes that's run well causes issues for anybody, and there a few teams in the state that prove that pretty much year in and year out. all in all i don't love it, but it can certainly be run successfully with the right group of athletes.
  5. eh, you know what I meant. MP has the seasons I'm referring to listed as 22-23 and 24-25, so just a typo sorta deal. here's hoping Nederland can get past them. It's an awful break for them to have to face Texas High in the first round, but pretty unlucky for Texas high to have to face them as well.
  6. They played a Slot-T team two weeks ago. and those point totals are meaningless considering the opponents.
  7. HF is favored to make it to the Regional Finals. Maybe they do, maybe they don't, but they're a favorite against everyone until then, and they're as good as any team in this region until proven otherwise. They absolutely crushed jasper and silsbee, and WOS only did marginally better with the help of a wet field slowing down the HF offense. The horns would much rather catch WOS for a second time on a dry field than have to deal with Bellville or La Vega, so hopefully y'all help us out with that.
  8. for what it's worth, this 2024 version is WAAAAAAY better than that that 2022 version, so this is pretty irrelevant. that team was 8-2 with 3-pt wins over 1-9 Whitehouse and 2-8 Pine Tree over the last 4 weeks of the season.
  9. Considering what's coming in the 3rd round it might be better to just set the bar there. The second round will be a big test, and if you advance you get the winner of what would normally be a regional finals matchup in the 3rd round.
  10. Mr. Dotson had himself a game last night. In 15 minutes off the bench for New Mexico he went 6-7 from the floor, and 3-4 from deep to finish the game with 18 points and 3 assists. They beat TAMCC 100-81 to start the season 3-0.
  11. apart from New Diana that district was absolutely awful. They played Garrison to 1 point early in the season which is kind of impressive, but don't really have a single other result on the season that's worth anything. They got beaten by the only other good team they played by 25, and the only other decent team by 11. despite having 7 wins, they haven't beaten a single team with a winning record, and their best win is against 4-6 West Rusk.
  12. Also understood. i'll give you that IF you are able to accrue several years of college coaching experience, don't stay at Cleveland for too long, and aren't the head coach ruining your career record, you can still be hired by a traditionally bad program.
  13. eh, to an extent. I think other coaches understand, and without a doubt respect what they're doing, but once you take that job and do absolutely nothing with it (because it's near impossible) why would anyone take a chance on your for another head coaching job? just because other coaches understand doesn't mean the school board will when they look at your job application and that 1-29 record.
  14. Yoakum kept it within 2 scores of Cuero and within 3 scores of Hitchcock and Columbus. I won't be the least bit surprised if they find a way to beat Troy, and those results are more impressive to me than anything OF has done.
  15. and i don't think it's a heavy favorite. OF is more than capable of beating either of them.
  16. due to his unique situation. your average young high school coach with no HC experience isn't going to go to Cleveland and win 2 games in 3 years and parlay that into a successful head coaching career in Texas. They'd be better served to get on as an assistant at a good program and try to get hired as a head coach after gaining many years of assistant experience. Any young coach who takes the Cleveland head coaching job is taking on a role that's high risk/low reward. As many others have said, this role is perfect for someone willing to get beat up on for a few years to bolster their retirement payout.
  17. you know as well as I do that he was hired based on his college coaching experience, and Cleveland had nothing to do with it. He also wasn't the head coach, and was clearly just there to fill a spot until he could get hired as an AD somewhere. and it's not exactly like he left Cleveland to go to a desirable job anyway. your average young coach with no head coach or college experience that goes 2-28 or so over three years in Cleveland may never get another HC opportunity again.
  18. La Marque ar losers of 3 straight, and 4th place out of a very bad district. This feels like an incoming blowout for the horns.
  19. Troy or Yoakum is a favorite against OF second round IMO.
  20. not sure why any young coach would go there and torpedo their chances to get hired somewhere else.
  21. the problem is YOU predicted Kamala to win, so if you're picking BC they're probably screwed.
  22. true. I have trouble figuring just how good of a win that is being that La is so much weaker on a whole, but it sure looks better than Buna
  23. this one feels like a toss up.
  24. manufactured hype. this is the issue. almost every poster in the football forum was willing to say that BC is much improved this year. but all of the new fans creating accounts and old ones coming out of the woodwork who were completely clueless really drove the BC hate. demanding respect, talking trash, pretending that they didn't move up to try and win, and also pretending they would've done well if they'd stayed put, trying to insert them into the conversation of the best teams in the area, etc. etc. that gets old pretty quick when you're beating up on bad 3A schools and a weak 4A district. thankfully losing to the only 2 decent teams they played all year shut all that down.
