Hardin-Jefferson vs. Silsbee, by the numbers
bullets13 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Also, when you talk about HJ's three championships, only one is really relevant in this thread. In all honesty, both schools coulda shoulda probably won 2 each during the last decade. Once you make it to state, anything can happen, and both schools advanced there and lost winnable games over the stretch of this rivalry. -
Hardin-Jefferson vs. Silsbee, by the numbers

Silsbee has more talent on a yearly basis. HJ has had better coaching IMO, which has made a difference, and has AT LEAST one stud every year capable of keeping a game close. -

Silsbee has won 13 of 17, and I'd argue they were favored in at least 13 of those 17 (probably 15 of 17). To me the impressive part of it all is that even though Silsbee has consistently had the better program for the last 7-8 years, pretty much every game has been close. on paper Silsbee should've probably won 13 of 17, with several blowouts. That hasn't been the case -
Silsbee is supposed to win this game, but they weren't supposed to lose to HJ for 6 years starting last year, and that lasted for 1 game. HJ has Saladin and Parquet, who can play with anyone, and a couple of bigs down low that can dominate the paint. HJ can't run with Silsbee, but they have the quality to slow it down, and run SOME with Silsbee. I picked silsbee to win a fairly close one in this thread, and I stand by that. I like HJs chances of winning better than Silsbee's chances of winning by 15+, as some have predicted

I could see it being a taunt if they were playing a game against a mostly Hispanic school. And in that case I would find it inappropriate. Not sure about this case, though. -

Your point won't be proven until they face each other. Silsbee is certainly better at pushing the pace than HJ, which showed in their ability to blow out lcm, who tries to slow it down. That being said, HJ is better suited to slow the pace against Silsbee than lcm was, plus they have enough speed to not get completely run out of the gym. I expect Silsbee to win, but I don't think their results against lcm are much of an indication of anything. HJ also has a couple of banged up starters. Not sure how much time they got. -

I saw that and was thrown off as well. I thought he was 6'0" at best. and i watched him play Friday evening, so it's not like i hadn't seen him play in a year. who knows, though. -
