Port Neches-Groves Boys 3 Beaumont Central 1/Final
bullets13 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Soccer
I'm going to be honest, from what i've seen, especially having been fairly active in local soccer, PNG sure seems to be ihe common denominator in a lot of these incidents... not sure why that is. I know there were big problems last year when GCM came to town. I'd sure like some more details on what happened at this game. -

such as?? and how did you even find their accounts? -
Not really. There's a certain amount of physicality, bumping, reaching in, and hand checking involved in a high pressure defense, and Silsbee employed all of these against HJ. The refs were consistent throughout the game, and let a lot of this go. They COULD have called a lot more fouls, but they would've been soft, ticky tack fouls. I don't think they called a bad game at all, and I don't think HJ got hosed in the least, so I don't want anyone thinking I'm making excuses. Silsbee outplayed and outmanned HJ by a wide margin, and were completely deserving of the result. I'm simply saying that IF they run into a group of officials who are calling a tight game, and not letting a little contact go, it could cause them some problems, not so much in foul trouble because of their depth, but because of the foul shots their opponents will accumulate.

There's no slow ball team in this region capable of beating them, unless HJ gets Parquet back, and that would still be a slim chance. The only thing that can slow down the Tigers is an officiating crew that calls a super tight game or their shot selection if they're ice cold from deep.

I doubt the hammering would've been nearly as bad. Kountze has had some pretty close games against average opponents with a starter or two out. And I would be very worried about my player getting hurt. When you're down 60 and your opponent is leaving one of the best players in the state in the game to run his stat line up, there are a lot of high school kids out there without the self control to stop themself from taking a cheap shot if it presents itself. I quit basketball as a freshman because I was a very good soccer player, and there were at least a dozen times in my career where I'd scored 2-3 goals against a bad opponent and my coach took me out of the game or threw me back into defense because the other team started trying to take me out. I set the all-time scoring record at my school, which still stands today, but I could've come close to doubling that number had the coach let me stay in and score as much as I wanted. I have no problem with his decision, because it was the right thing to do, for a multitude of reasons.

I still see a difference between you hitting a 3 up 30 and him scoring 8 points in the 4th after they were up 90.

look, i honestly don't have a problem with a result, but when Arnold scores 23 in the 2nd half of a game they were leading by 32 at the break, with 8 of those coming in the 4th quarter (which they entered leading by SIXTY), i'm not going to blame Deweyville for letting the score get out of hand. This isn't the NFL. These kids aren't getting paid to play, and i'm not going to blame them for getting slaughtered by an infinitely superior squad, especially when that squad plays their best player deep into the 4th quarter of a game that was over after the 1st quarter. The only way Deweyville was going to stop Arnold was to hurt him, and frankly i'm a bit surprised that he wasn't pulled early for precisely this reason.
