  1. maybe you could be an extra in the movie...
  2. Once again Smitty posts a link to an article that completely misrepresents the reality of what might happen in an effort to portray Obama in the most negative way possible.
  3. Hopefully the public is smart enough to not re-elect some of the same yahoos that ran the district into the ground in the first place, but I have my doubts
  4. With a town that size, I'm sure it has a lot to do with who she is, rather than what she looks like. It's worth noting that 80% is only 5 officers. She had previously held an officer for the town, so it's more than possible that they know her and her work habits well enough to know they don't want to work under her.
  5. Not sure. They could've shot and killed him and been justified in doing so. Seems like he might've gotten off lightly. It's hard to tell from the dashcam, but if he was closing in and the suspect brought the gun up, then why not. But it definitely looked like the officer had the intent to hit him when he drove in. That being said, the officer was cleared of any wrongdoing by the DA
  6. I couldn't get your link to load, but I'm assuming they would've proclaimed him guilty even without a video, just like they did in ferguson.
  7. Most communities are making this effort. Even the Ferguson chief said as much. We want them, but they won't apply or don't qualify.
  8. Buddy, towns are BEGGING for applicants of minority races. the problem is they don't want the job, they can't pass the test, or they already have backgrounds that exclude them. Applicants from Port Arthur get seven extra points on the test JUST FOR BEING FROM PORT ARTHUR. considering the racial makeup of PA, that's a pretty clear effort to make it easier for minorities to get hired. but you can't hire people who wont apply, you can't hire people who can't pass a basic reading comprehension test, and you can't hire people who already have criminal backgrounds. With that said, a good number of PA's younger officers are black and Hispanic.
  9. how do y'all feel about ESPN.com's new setup? I absolutely hate it. Just curious about your thoughts.
  10. seems more like a place where folks go to pick and choose certain passages that back their beliefs, while negating those that don't align with them.
  11. Smitty, since you still abide by the rules of Leviticus, I'm sure it's safe to assume that you do not eat shellfish or pork, spread slander (I think we all know you still do this regularly ;) ), trim your beard, do not stand in the presence of the elderly, mistreat foreigners (ha!), and surely you've never sold land. Am I right?
  12. The problem with Christians using the whole "Not bound by the laws of the old testament" thing is that you always have some yahoo quoting the old testament to try and make a point. I introduce Exhibit A above.
  13. I do a lot of ridealongs with tvc, and officers are constantly trying to fix cameras and body mics that are malfunctioning. For whatever that's worth to you.
  14. He's guilty as hell, but anytime you bring a jury into play, anything can happen.
  15. Not sure. You'd have a hard time justifying a dead guy with a whole bunch of holes in his back 30 feet from where you're shooting, who the evidence would show was running away, tazer or not.
  16. It's hard to see who's dropping the tazer at the start of the video. If they suspect did, it's possible the cop didn't realize he'd dropped it, shot him, saw it back where they started, knew how it would look, and planted it. But honestly, that's not a defense, just a theory.
  17. When cops shoot someone and it's not justified, they are generally charged with crimes. The problem is when it's justified and the media reports differently based on bad information and conjecture.
  18. that tipped ball blown call overshadowed the play about a minute earlier where Duke got an and-1 opportunity after a ref standing just a couple of feet away somehow missed Justise Winslow stepping out of bounds before "saving" the ball to Okafor for a layup. I'm surprised how many people are mentioning one without the other. The group package is more telling.
  19. just being realistic.
  20. 28 minutes into the game Wisconsin was up 9. Then the fouls started coming hot and heavy, and Duke starting making their free throws. Listening to Mike and Mike this morning on the way to work I heard 3 different talking heads mention the officials, so I know I'm not crazy.
  21. Two obvious blown calls late gift duke 5 points, they win by 5. Duke in the double bonus at the 9 minute mark, duke with a foul to give with 20 seconds left. I'm burned about my bracket group, but I was on the phone at the start of the 2nd and got to fast forward through the first ten minutes of the second half to the action, and it was soft foul after soft foul on Wisconsin. Then combine that with what happened at the end, and I'm a little grouchy right now
