PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Jeff Maggert withdrew from The Players Championship, telling tournament officials that his brother died in a small plane crash in Colorado en route to his son's college graduation. The Aspen Daily News reported the 1965 Cessna 1982 was co-owned by Barry Maggert and Carroll Winkler, who said that Maggert was flying the plane to Boulder for his son's graduation from the University of Colorado. Maggert, the golfer's older brother, has 23-year-old twin sons, Lee and Bryant. Lee Maggert was to graduate Friday. Jeff Maggert played Thursday afternoon and opened with an even-par 72. He learned of the plane crash when he finished his round and was scrambling for information before withdrawing late Thursday and flying to Colorado. He confirmed to tournament officials that his brother had died. The Gilpin County Sheriff's office said Friday morning it was waiting for family to arrive before releasing the names. Maggert is a three-time winner on the PGA Tour who has played on three Ryder Cup teams. He lives in Houston and has five children, including 3-year-old twin girls. Barry Maggert, an engineer from Carbondale, Colo., made an unsuccessful candidacy last month as a town trustee. Alpine Rescue Team spokesman Bill Barwick said about 50 people, some on snowmobiles, helped the rescue effort in mountainous terrain at 10,400 feet. He said the sheriff's office was waiting for daylight and better weather Friday to bring down the body. The 23-year-old passenger was taken to a Denver's hospital. His condition was unknown. FAA spokesman Mike Fergus in Seattle said one of the people on board called 911 from a cell phone after the crash.

Spurs vs. Hornets Game Thread/SPURS ADVANCE!!!!!

I'll feel a little better about Dallas' performance if the spurs lose this series -
If this was the pregame interview, what could Ozzie Guillen possibly have said after the Chicago White Sox lost again Sunday? Guillen unleashed his verbal wrath before the White Sox faced the Blue Jays in Toronto, after having been asked a humorous question about a minor leaguer's recent performance and his chance at cracking the White Sox lineup. That apparently was all it took. Guillen's profanity-laden stream of consciousness touched on Cubs fans, White Sox fans, the media, Lee Elia, and himself. "Right now everyone in Chicago is making lineups -- 'Call up this guy, call up that guy.' ... If we had 50 people allowed on the roster, we could do that. That's what ticks me off about Chicago fans and Chicago media: They forget pretty quickly. A couple of days ago we were the [bleeping] best [stuff] in town. Now we're [bleep]," Guillen said to the aforementioned Chicago media before the game. Guillen observed that Chicago still loved the Cubs, even though they have not won a World Series since 1908, but the White Sox -- winners of the 2005 World Series -- did not receive the same affectionate support. "We won it a couple years ago, and we're horse[bleep]," Guillen said, according to the Chicago Tribune. "The Cubs haven't won in [100] years, and they're the [bleeping] best. [bleep] it, we're good. [bleep] everybody. We're horse[bleep], and we're going to be horse[bleep] the rest of our lives, no matter how many World Series we win. "We are the [bleep] of Chicago. We're the Chicago [bleep]. We have the worst owner [Jerry Reinsdorf]. The guy's got seven [bleeping] rings, and he's the [bleeping] horse[bleep] owner." Guillen brought up Elia, the former Cubs manager who blew his gasket over what he considered to be ungrateful, unforgiving and unsupportive Cubs fans in an infamous tirade that recently marked its 25th anniversary. "How about the Cubs celebrating that Lee Elia bull[bleep]? How many times do I curse people out? I will make a lot of money with my [stuff]. I have to keep going because in the future Ozzie will need money, and I can say, 'Here, give me money, here's the 10-year anniversary of my time I called [Jay] Mariotti stuff and the time I went on the radio and cursed out Mike North,' " Guillen said. The North incident Guillen referred to is from mid-May 2007, when Guillen called in to North's Chicago radio show and the two got into a spat (with Guillen providing most of the profanity). And in June 2006, Guillen lashed out at Mariotti -- a columnist with the Chicago Sun-Times and frequent contributor to ESPN's "Around the Horn" -- and referred to Mariotti using a homophobic slur. The White Sox had been in first place in their division from April 15 until Saturday night, but are on a five-game losing streak and now 1½ games behind the Minnesota Twins. "People are panicking," Guillen said. "Did we play a real bad week? Yes, we did, we stunk. But it wasn't too long ago that we were 'the biggest surprise in baseball, wow, look at the White Sox.' "

i doubt either will ever be broken. the strikeout record is more vulnerable, but i don't see it happening. the bullpen plays a much more prominent role than it did throughout nolan's career. these days, strikeout pitchers don't get to go that deep into games, so nobody who has a chance of catching him will pitch enough innings in their career to do it, as they'll be pulled every time they hit 115-120 pitches. -
if a teacher drinks occasionally during the summer, are they going to have problems teaching in september? occasional marijuana use during the offseason is not going to effect how he's playing during the season. don't twist my words. now if he smokes pot every day during the offseason, gets the munchies all the time, gains 30 lbs, and subsequently lacks the ambition to go out and practice, then sure, smoking pot in the offseason will effect his playing ability. I'm not saying what he's doing is ok, I'm just saying that his comment about it not being a big deal FROM A BASKETBALL STANDPOINT is reasonable. actually wasn't even referring to your comments. my fault should have been more clear. I was referring to Howard's comments that it has no effect on him doing his job. Having no experience with marijauna, I was throwing a general question out there. oh, ok. cool ;D

You are my hero... dangit. i could really use those 99 points, too.
