sounds like it was a pretty good one. i always like the 0-0 and 1-0 games.

Halftime: Kansas 42 Texas 38 Augustin 0-7 James 1-2 2 fouls, sat most of the first half Texas has to feel good about still being in this one. if those two players can pick it up in the second half, the horns have a shot to win this one.

final?

pretty respectable... looks like the coaches are letting the kids shoot tonight. -
Kansas 35 Texas 33 Augustin still killing us.

Augustin is having another tough game. i've seen him take more bad shots his last 3-4 games than i've seen him take his entire career at texas. he's 0-6 tonight. abrams is on tonight, however, and texas is up 3 with about 8 minutes left. the refs have been hosing the horns a little bit. Texas 29 Kansas 26

man, that's good news. a week of regular practice should hopefully have him close to full strength for the silsbee game. -
Texas leads 22-20 with 10 1/2 left. this is shaping up to be a heck of a game. It's on ESPN for anyone who didn't know.

i don't believe that this trade made them better. he'll offer a solution to their post problems, but only when he's not hurt or sucking wind on the bench. they gave up a heck of a player to get him, as well. if shaq comes out and starts playing well, you have to believe that he was tanking in miami on purpose, which would be a real shame.
-
yup, i'm glad to see he's sticking around...

at the 15 minute mark of the first half, Texas leads 15-12.

i heard burrell might see some playing time tonight, is that the case? -

Fans and opponents of HJ, if you have something to say about the hecklers after a game, come here to say it. Someone brought up the fact that most HJ game threads end up turning into hawk heckler threads. hopefully this will keep that from happening. I will be watching all HJ game threads, and will delete any comments about the hecklers unless it is also somehow relevant to the game itself. I will also monitor this thread, and if the trash talking starts getting like it does on some of the other threads, comments will be deleted and warnings sent out. I'm not trying to be a jerk about this, it's just that the hecklers are probably the most debated subject on the basketball forum. while this is great for the forum itself, it's important that we follow the rules and abstain from insulting each other. with that being said, have fun!

Absolutely! The Hawks have had to learn how to score, and win, without his presence in the lineup. Although their games have been closer in the second half of district, they've found a way to get the job done without him. They've developed into a team that's good enough to make a run in the playoffs without him, and now that he's coming back, he might just be the last piece of the puzzle that helps them get all the way back to state.

Oldtimer, here's the reason this turned into a hawk heckler thread. i would've deleted it had i seen it sooner, but it would be pointless now. The thing is, these types of comments seem to pop up in every game thread about HJ. Of course you're then going to have a bunch of defensive responses from the hecklers. I'd suggest this to you. if you're tired of this sort of thing, start your own "hawk heckler" thread. give the folks a place to vent their frustration or heap their praise. I'll make you this promise... if you'll do that, i'll delete any future post about the hecklers in a game thread unless it's harmless (i.e. the hecklers were out in full force and the hawks played great!)

i couldn't find them on the roster... but it might not be updated or something, or i might have been at the wrong navarro college website, as there appeared to be several (although i'm pretty sure i had the right one). hopefully someone will give us some information.

Ozen should take this by a decent margin, say maybe 4-1. i think with their wins over HJ and Silsbee, and with much improved results against the traditional powers of the district, ozen is establishing themself as the best of the worst. it might not be the greatest honor to have, but they've come a hell of a long way. i know that when i was playing against them a few years ago, suggesting that they'd ever have a shot at 5 or 6 district wins was laughable. this year they might just have the team to do it.

That was good bullet. ;D

that's a pretty weak statement. that the game IN SILSBEE was so close, and their identical district records would indicate they're still pretty even, even without Burrell. Burrell's impending return also makes this a soon-to-be moot point. Through this statement you're clearly trying to imply that the hecklers are irrelevant, and that they are not a factor in HJ's success. One only has to look at the whining and moaning about them that goes on in the basketball forum to realize just how big of an effect they have on the outcomes of games. If it bothers you fans so much, imagine how much they must get into the heads of the hawks' opponents. Usually there are very few who come on here and talk crap, at least to start. Most of the time there is negative talk about the hecklers in whichever game thread, and the hecklers come on here and defend themselves. Of course, they don't always show a lot of tact, but what do you expect when you have grown men criticizing high school kids? I don't think any Hawk fan, player, or coach is going to lose sleep about not having your support. Many fans in the area outside of Sour Lake supported the Hawks last year during their run to state, and i doubt that this year will be any different. Once again, surprisingly, I don't think anyone in the hecklers cares too much about who you root for. You're entitled to hold your petty grudge, although i think it's funny how someone who's name implies age and wisdom is one of the few people I hear griping about this situation, rather than a player or student. The posts you've made over the season about the hecklers would be more fitting coming from either. I notice that BCcardbacker and cardinalcc don't seem to have the same issues you do.

i, for one, don't care what happens to him. i never liked him, even when he came to houston. i'm with you purple, i have a feeling he's lying, and if he is, i doubt he'll ever admit to the truth, even if they provide solid evidence. i believe that unless he can somehow completely prove his innocence, he'll never make it into the hall of fame. i doubt that his punishment will extend much further than that. congress doesn't have the same hatred for him that they do for barry bonds, who i have no doubt will serve jail time if they can ever get the concrete proof against him. so i think roger gets a slap on the wrist at worst, and maybe no hall of fame. hopefully this scandal will at least force him into retirement.

Someone give Mrs. Mattingly brain mcnamee's number!

Hecklers, don't worry about what these folks say. If they could get that type of support at their schools, they would embrace it. It's hard for folks to digest when ya'll come in and ride their team the whole time, especially because ya'll give an already great hawk team an even bigger advantage. No schools in the area can raise the kind of support that ya'll give, so other schools lash out with threats and criticism towards ya'll. I'm sure this is often out of frustration after ya'll help the hawks win a game by a large margin. Fans that are normally classy and fair are reduced to whining and throwing insults after the hecklers come to town. Having been to several games where the hecklers were in attendance, i will say this: i personally have never seen a heckler do anything overly offensive, unless he was provoked. I have, however, seen parents and students from opposing schools target the hecklers with profanity and threats. There have even been instances where fans from the opposing team have tried to attack the hecklers in the parking lot after a game. This is unfair. The hecklers are nothing more than an extremely devoted group of fans who do their best to support their team, and provide the hawks with a home court advantage, even when they're on the road. So hecklers, keep doing what you do, and if you step on some toes, don't worry too much about breaking them.
