  1. Also understood. i'll give you that IF you are able to accrue several years of college coaching experience, don't stay at Cleveland for too long, and aren't the head coach ruining your career record, you can still be hired by a traditionally bad program.
  2. eh, to an extent. I think other coaches understand, and without a doubt respect what they're doing, but once you take that job and do absolutely nothing with it (because it's near impossible) why would anyone take a chance on your for another head coaching job? just because other coaches understand doesn't mean the school board will when they look at your job application and that 1-29 record.
  3. Yoakum kept it within 2 scores of Cuero and within 3 scores of Hitchcock and Columbus. I won't be the least bit surprised if they find a way to beat Troy, and those results are more impressive to me than anything OF has done.
  4. and i don't think it's a heavy favorite. OF is more than capable of beating either of them.
  5. due to his unique situation. your average young high school coach with no HC experience isn't going to go to Cleveland and win 2 games in 3 years and parlay that into a successful head coaching career in Texas. They'd be better served to get on as an assistant at a good program and try to get hired as a head coach after gaining many years of assistant experience. Any young coach who takes the Cleveland head coaching job is taking on a role that's high risk/low reward. As many others have said, this role is perfect for someone willing to get beat up on for a few years to bolster their retirement payout.
  6. you know as well as I do that he was hired based on his college coaching experience, and Cleveland had nothing to do with it. He also wasn't the head coach, and was clearly just there to fill a spot until he could get hired as an AD somewhere. and it's not exactly like he left Cleveland to go to a desirable job anyway. your average young coach with no head coach or college experience that goes 2-28 or so over three years in Cleveland may never get another HC opportunity again.
  7. La Marque ar losers of 3 straight, and 4th place out of a very bad district. This feels like an incoming blowout for the horns.
  8. Troy or Yoakum is a favorite against OF second round IMO.
  9. not sure why any young coach would go there and torpedo their chances to get hired somewhere else.
  10. the problem is YOU predicted Kamala to win, so if you're picking BC they're probably screwed.
  11. true. I have trouble figuring just how good of a win that is being that La is so much weaker on a whole, but it sure looks better than Buna
  12. this one feels like a toss up.
  13. manufactured hype. this is the issue. almost every poster in the football forum was willing to say that BC is much improved this year. but all of the new fans creating accounts and old ones coming out of the woodwork who were completely clueless really drove the BC hate. demanding respect, talking trash, pretending that they didn't move up to try and win, and also pretending they would've done well if they'd stayed put, trying to insert them into the conversation of the best teams in the area, etc. etc. that gets old pretty quick when you're beating up on bad 3A schools and a weak 4A district. thankfully losing to the only 2 decent teams they played all year shut all that down.
  14. yeah, that doesn't bode well when you consider the jump in size/ability that they'll be facing in PT.
  15. BC scheduled 3 3A teams pre-district, and only one of them was even good for 3A. HH's pre-district was slightly better, but still against very weak 4A schools. LCM actually scheduled a decent pre-district schedule, and didn't look terrible. Weather helped them keep it close against HF, and the silsbee result was respectable as well. Vidor hasn't won a game against a team with more than 3 wins. Realistically, I think HH and LCM have pretty good teams. BC is decent. But when you have a district where all the quality wins on the year are against each other, and nobody is really THAT good to begin with, it's hard to be optimistic with the matchups coming out of east texas. For me personally, I follow y'all's district with quite a bit of interest, so I'm well-versed in the difference between the two groups. I went to college in Marshall, still hunt outside Jefferson (Avinger), and my college roommates both graduated from Pine Tree. So i always keep up with East Texas football in all divisions.
  16. was told that they had a whole class of kids basically quit on the team a couple of years ago and fielded very young teams for two years. They're more experienced this year, and also benefit from being in a super weak district. They're not a bad team, but I don't expect Chapel Hill to struggle much against them, although those key injuries may make it more interesting. They and Bridge City are in the same boat: both have improved quite a bit from last year, but both have also played exceptionally soft schedules.
  17. nah, it shouldn't be close. they had the benefit of finishing the season against the four worst teams in what was already a bad district and finishing 5-5, making that season look better than it was. they went 0-5 against teams with a winning record, and only one of those games was competitive. the combined record of the teams that beat them: 41-9. The combined record of the teams they beat: 8-42. And it's worth nothing that 6 of those wins came from head to head matchups in district where somebody had to win. They may have a little confidence coming into the game on a 4-game win streak, but I don't think those last four opponents did them any favors in preparing them for what they're about to face.
  18. unfortunate for them. they seemed like they had a chance to run pretty deep this year.
  19. Any idea how long he’s out?
  20. I was here, but just found out Pine Tree lost their QB to injury. Still only give BC about a 10% chance, though
  21. Expecting a comfortable win from the tigers.
  22. Didn’t realize this. Gives them at least a hint of a chance. Still, BC hasn’t played anyone near what Pine Tree is this year.
  23. Lindale is battle tested coming out of that district. Pretty good argument to be made that LCM is the 7th best team they’ve played this year. They lost most of those games, but some of them were close, and they won’t be intimidated coming into this one. Personally I think it’s a tossup.
  24. WOS with a comfortable win. 3 touchdowns
  25. He’s a little over the top with his comments, but make no mistake, this is a very good HF team.
