  1. good job dawgs! and against public schools, too... imagine that
  2. kinda expected OF to win this one, but it's tough to win with players out. good luck to both of these teams the rest of the year.
  3. sweet! my beloved rangers get another slightly below average pitcher! what happened to Kam Lowe? he was finally showing some promise...
  4. why, because our outlook doesn't coincide with yours? there are a bunch of arguments for and against running up the score. i will say, in response to Newcastle, that as a player, it's more beneficial to work on your passing against a bad team than scoring easy one on one breakaways every 5 minutes. Westend is right... your team is going to gain very little by pounding a bad team. Everything comes easy, and the players don't have to work very hard to succeed, so what do they get, finishing practice? If you get your subs in early, they get playing time and experience. Your star doesn't need to score two hat tricks against somebody just because he can. Against easy competition my coach used to pull me out as soon as i got a hat trick, and if i couldn't get one in the first half of a game we were winning 4 or 5 to nil, then i wasn't going to get one. At the time, it used to make me mad, but now i understand where he was coming from. Why break the spirit of a team who loses almost every game anyway? You don't need to win by 12 to show that you're the best team, and you don't need to score 12 to have a successful game. Be respectful of your opponents.
  5. no, that's why i suggest getting your bench into the game before the score is already out of hand... if you know you're going to beat a team badly, don't wait until the score is 8-0 to put your bench in. do it early so that they can score a few without the team being accused of running up the score.
  6. This is ridiculous. In our district, there are 3 or 4 teams at the top, and 3 or 4 at the bottom, and very little ground in between. Teams like HJ, WOS, and Ozen have struggled over the past few years. Do you mean to to tell me they should take 8-10 "spankings" a year so that the big schools can "compete"? For most of my life i've played on very competitive teams, but i'll tell you, there's a big difference in losing a game 6-0 instead of 10-0. For struggling teams like these, it's important that opposing coaches do their best to keep the score reasonable, so that these kids do not get discouraged and quit. All that said, you sound like maybe your husband coaches for a team who doesn't have to eat from the humble pie too often. If you were on the losing end of a few of these spankings in a row, you might change your tune.
  7. i think so... soccer is one of those games where it's not too difficult to keep from scoring without making the other team feel like crap. i think the key is to get your starters out very early when you know you're going to pound someone. go up 3-4 to 0, then get your bench in. this way your subs will not only get some playing time, but get the chance to do some scoring without making you look bad.
  8. sounds like it was a close game... it's good to know that LU can compete with the best teams in the conference...
  9. that's a big blow for them, but they're very deep. i think because of this they'll probably drop one game before playoffs, but other than that they won't hurt too bad.
  10. i never could stand him, but it seems like they should've gotten a little more for him. they probably just ruined LA though. I can't remember a time where ruiz was willing to play second fiddle to anyone. on the galaxy he'll be a distant 3rd!
  11. if they're going to deport him, why not deport roger clemens... i know he's an american, but it would be kind of fun to make him stay in canada for awhile. ;D
  12. screw that, he needs to see himself playing! one more year!
  13. Who did the Hoops get for Ruiz?
  14. You're right, it is early. HJ has the better team, but Silsbee will play this game harder than probably any other game all year. I'm going to say HJ by 6, but i won't be shocked if Silsbee pulls the mini-upset.
  15. i'm glad to see baylor doing well... i've always kinda cheered for them because they were usually in the cellar. it's good to see them performing well.
  16. he could always pre-sign a few before the game and then just pass them out... or he could just whack the autograph seekers with his cane. those are both completely acceptable solutions IMO.
  17. Tech has been pretty inconsistent this year... now we know what they are capable of. if they can play like this on a regular basis, they can hang with anyone in the Big 12. Of course, aTm had an off night, but Tech had a little something to do with that.
  18. i liked deane pretty well, but i wasn't around back in the days of tubbs and foster... i still have my mike deane bobble head doll with the sunglasses
  19. Donnie's a fantastic athlete... are they going to give him a chance to play anywhere else on the field as well?
  20. I've heard some great things about smith from one of his coaches... he told me he dunked a couple of times in a game the other day, too. he didn't make it sound like the kid was interested in going to ozen, but you got to figure your best chance of getting noticed in beaumont is playing for ozen, so who knows.
  21. i was shocked by this one.  i watched the game, and tech outplayed and outclassed the ags.  if tech had been playing like this all season, they'd be ranked pretty high (of course if the ags had been playing like this all season, they wouldn't be ranked at all).  anywho, a great win for tech, and for the general, who got his 900th win against a heck of a team.  i'm sure the ags will bounce back in their next game.
