  1. EC by ten or so. kountze should give them a good competitive ballgame.
  2. three questions: 1) how many turned out to play? 2) who was the MVP? 3) when is the next game, i had family obligations today.
  3. well, i do believe the rockies are done. i really thought they had a good chance, but that long layoff surely hurt them. Congrats in advance to the Red Sox, but also to the Rockies for making one hell of a run to make it this far.
  4. yup, but you can say that about last year, considering durant was essentially the worlds' tallest shooting guard.
  5. when do you we play orangefield so i can at least predict a game that is somewhat close... Jasper 58 HJ 12
  6. it's just the luck of the draw... i've seen teams make it to the state semifinals by getting lucky and playing creampuffs until they got there... the good thing for lumberton this year is that they have a team that can at least compete with most teams they might draw, and if you can compete enough to stay close, anything can happen.
  7. it's still strange for me to see aTm ranked ahead of Texas in a basketball poll, but they've done a great job of building that program up the last couple of years.
  8. i don't know if UT makes it without durant, but i sure as hell hope they do!
  9. since this post came after the k'ville game, i'm assuming you feel that they ran the score up on you too. keep in mind that BC put up 19 first half points, and wasn't having a lot of trouble doing so. K'ville did score 34 points in the first half, but the game was somewhat competitive at halftime. when you consider the fact that BC showed that they could score some points, K'ville was kind of obligated to keep putting up points in the 3rd quarter to put the game away. it would've been a little different if the score at the half was 34-0 instead of 34-19. once the game was out of reach, backups came in, and they were still scoring. i did see that pierce rhodes only carried the ball 9 times. it's on the defense that he scored 4 touchdowns and had over 250 yards. He got his last touchdown with 10:44 left in the 3rd quarter. I doubt if he touched the ball again, although i can't say for sure.
  10. poor officiating or not, what a gritty effort by both sides. PNG did what they had to do to get by, and vidor put a scare into the top team in the district. congrats to both sides on your play.
  11. i think they would finish in the middle of the pack in 22-4A this year, which would be a very respectable result. I'd guess they'd beat: LCM, Vidor, Ozen. I'd give them even odds against Central. I think they'd probably lose to PNG, Nederland, Lumberton, and Dayton (but they might could pull one upset off against these four). Overall prediction: 4-4 in a very tough 4A district. of course, this prediction is just for this season, with all of their seniors. If they lost some of their key players due to UIL rules, the picture would be changed pretty dramatically, and they would probably struggle to get 3 wins.
  12. most of you have hit this issue on the head. it is more embarrassing to have someone kneel the ball midway through the fourth. you can't expect a backup to get into the game and not try to do his best, or not make it into the endzone when he has the chance. the only way you can have a gripe here is if the opponent's starting running back is still carrying the ball late into the 3rd and 4th quarter, or if the opponent is still putting the ball in the air after being up 40 or 50. if your team can't stop 3rd and 4th (or even 5th and 6th) string running backs, then that's on your team and coaches, not on the opponent's coach who is doing his best to keep things reasonable while getting backups playing time.
  13. wow! i knew i should've gone to this game... sounds like it was a great effort by both teams.
  14. It's gotta be roy... if you wanna take some of the other players' entire careers, maybe you can choose someone else, but just going on astros stats, he wins hands down.
  15. Participation is the most important part of high school football. I went to HJ, and we had an enrollment of 700 or so, and probably 60 kids suited up for every game. another 100 or so were in the band, 35 in drill team, 15 cheerleaders, and 30 hawkeye escorts. This means of all of our students, approximately 250 or so were involved directly in every football game. Another 300 (or more) were in the stands for every game. To me, creating student and community involvement is by far the biggest benefit of HS sports. Winning is important because it's easier to get behind a winning team, but winning is not the most important result of HS football. A program is successful if it keeps the student body and community interested and excited about their school and team.
  16. hopefully the rockies can turn it around at home...
  17. sweet... maybe they'll become the los angeles oakland A's of sacramento.
  18. any word on if the blood on brian fuentes' sock is real? ;D
  19. i'd love to see it happen, but whoever loses the lumberton/nederland game won't be in the top 25 after the loss. if lumberton does beat nederland, i hope the voters have enough sense to move them up to where they belong.
  20. the only people that really think vidor will beat png are a few fans from vidor (and hopefully the vidor players). i'm not saying it can't happen. vidor is usually good for an upset every year. the idea of anybody actually picking vidor over png is kind of silly to me though. vidor is having a rough year, and png has been on fire of late. png by a lot.
  21. and lumberton fans wonder why people don't like them... a select FEW of you turn entirely unrelated threads into opportunities to talk about how good ya'll are.
  22. Eh, who cares... there are idiots everywhere... we can't let a few stupid people ruin the spirit of the game.
