  1. I'm with you, scooter. A) having a shot clock would keep a team from holding the ball for minutes at a time to kill a game. high school players would be better prepared for college ball C) i'm a big fan of anything that pushes up the score and makes the game more exciting
  2. yes they were, but josh davis was by far the best for them during those years.
  3. west brook had a foreign exchange student from sweden named peter benkten (sp?), and he was the real deal... only played one season for them and was 1st team all state... this must have been back in 99 or 2000. the stewarts from silsbee were good, and william freeman played goal for them, and he was excellent. while we're on the smaller school, HJ had john mccarthy, casey mccormick, and lucas harris. frank schumann was very good for west orange stark, knapp for lcm, tons for nederland and png and lumberton.
  4. central dominated...
  5. joe's a heck of a coach though.
  6. joe fontana wasn't that good of a player... well, let me rephrase that. he was a good player, but not a superstar. i played with him in club and against him in school, and although he was very fast, he wasn't supertalented.
  7. H-J shot like crap today. Judging by the box score, they didn't play all that well. I think on Saturday they'll really perform, now that they've already played a game on the big stage. H-J by 2 in triple overtime.
  8. how about jacob ricossa with 8 big rebounds...
  9. they must be calling the game tight, each team has two players with 3 fouls each, and HJ has three more players with 2 fouls... chapel hill has one guy with 2 fouls... let them play! CH's center has already attempted 13 free throws!
  10. good run by the hawks... hope they can pull this one out.
  11. it's obviously donahoe, and you obviously wanted this answer.
  12. I'm gonna say Coach Sutherland 77, Chapel Hill 3.
  13. HJ is certainly more talented individually, but silsbee is scrappy and plays well as a team. It was a toss-up, and overtime wasn't really a surprise. HJ-Hawks7 is a little off on this one. I did expect HJ to win, but not after they went down 17.
  14. It's got to be Southerland. HJ has been rich in talent since the early 90's, but it's been that long since a coach has been able to bring an HJ team this far. If the talent has been consistent, you have to look at the coaching as the difference. Southerland for coach of the year and president of the united states! I even hear he might be Anna-Nicole's baby's daddy.
  15. tech and ksu, barring being left out somehow, will both be seeded higher, tech maybe an 8 or 9, ksu maybe a 9 or 10. rarely do you see at-large bids from major conferences get a seed lower than a 10.
  16. Kansas pretty much had control of the game when durant got hurt. texas was only down by 4 or 5, but kansas had outscored them by what, 16 in the second half? for a few minutes after he got hurt, texas played some really good ball and kept it close, but i think even with him in there, texas still loses the game. the real question is whether or not durant's ankle is going to affect his play in the big 12 tourney. he's certainly good enough to help texas beat any team in the conference at any time, and they have a legit chance to win the conference tourney. if they do that, or at least notch another marquee win, they should be in line for a 2-4 spot in the big dance.
  17. lamar is finally showing some potential. it's a little late in the season, but at least they made it into the tournament. they've shown that they can beat the best, now the question is whether or not they can avoid a meltdown against one of the mediocre.
  18. I'm hoping HJ wins, but they need to start this game a little better than the last few. Having to come from behind all of the time is eventually going to lead to a loss, and chapel hill is good enough to beat them if they're up by 10 or 15 in the second half.
  19. I think that the bottom line is that half of HJ will not be at school anyway, so why not close the school for a "weather day", and then be able to make it up later. When i was at HJ, and our girls made their deep run into the playoffs, school was not cancelled, and we just spent half the day in our classes listening to the games and not learning anyway.
  20. as good as this HJ team is, I'd love to see them matched up against the teams that were winning in the early 90's. hey, they're all still around, let's get them together for a game.
  21. the rankings are just a number, but they're indicative of the fact that ozen is probably the least talented team left in the tourney. i hope they show enough heart to pull off a couple of upsets and bring the trophy home.
