  1. Next thing you know they'll eliminate running.
  2. High school basketball eliminates 1-and-1 free throws, sets new team foul limit | Fox News
  3. No doubt WOS had a tough year last year. Look who they lost to: Newton- 12-2, 4 rounds deep (lost by 3) PNG- 13-3, 5A State finalists Silsbee- 13-1, 4 rounds deep (absolutely were good enough to make it to the state finals and lose to carthage) HF- 9-4, 3 rounds deep Jasper- 7-4 (close losses to Newton, Franklin, and Silsbee) Bellville- 11-1 Legitimate argument that this was the toughest schedule in the state. WOS was a handful of plays away from being 8-3 and state ranked going to the second round of the playoffs. Obviously it was a disappointing season, no doubt about it. But it's not going to take a whole lot to turn it around this year. That said, if it gets worse, it's time for a change at the end of the season.
  4. They aren't missing the playoffs as long as they continue playing in a 7-team 4A district (especially with HJ, BC, and liberty in it). So they'll win a DC before they miss the playoffs.
  5. RIP, Hagar. Definitely gonna miss his posts.
  6. i never thought it was "all benign." but most of it is. that said, lol at tagging me on a GP link.
  7. Yup. They have about 2 guys I kinda trust
  8. rangers still chugging along. Blew an ugly one last night, but bounced back nicely today. 10-4 over their last 14
  9. The issue here is he’s stating what he would do as a migrant, while you’re trying to tell him to look at it through the eyes of a US citizen. None of us would like it if we lived in a border town and had to deal with it. I don’t like it even though it’s across the state. But every decent man on this board would do it as a migrant if it meant giving our family a much better life.
  10. No knock on him or the team, because you beat who’s in front of you, but if looks like two playoff wins against a .500 team and a team with a losing record was what it took to get to state? Unless maxpreps is missing some games? If that’s all it takes they should be going to state about 8 out of 10 years if he’s a good coach and attracting local talent. Their next game is against a district opponent whose incomplete maxpreps record is 7-11. I don’t know how all of the private stuff works, but I seem to remember maybe they’re soccer team winning a state championship and only having to win 3 or 4 games.
  11. I do understand that it would require an amendment. Slave children are no longer a consideration. We need to eliminate the scenario where someone is illegal, but then has a baby that immediately becomes legal, necessitating them staying in the country to care for the newborn legal citizen. i agree to an extent on the second point, I just didn’t want to go through and list every crime that I thought would qualify. Super minor stuff isn’t an issue to me. I was going to say anything worse than a class C misdemeanor, but there’s a couple that seem somewhat serious to me, depending on the circumstances. So I guess i should’ve went with “most crimes more serious than a traffic violation.”
  12. It shouldn't be easy to become a citizen, but the process shouldn't be so long and difficult that it's just easier to break the law and come in illegally. I would love to see a revamped system that does a few things: 1. make the pathway to citizenship more attainable for migrants 2. make it a requirement for all money made while here on a temporary status to be taxed, and at a higher level than it is for citizens. any effort to circumvent this process means immediate deportation with no future opportunity at citizenship. 3. any crime worse than traffic offenses results in immediate and permanent deportation, with no future opportunity at citizenship. 4. Any immigrant willing to serve a 4-year stint in a branch of our military gains immediate citizenship upon completion. 5. Immigrants and their families, regardless of status, should not be eligible for handouts such as WIC, medicaid, food stamps, etc. If a family can't survive without these, they are not benefiting our country, and should be deported without future opportunity at citizenship. 6. Any child born here to illegal parents should not be given immediate citizenship, and should be treated as a citizen of the country of their parents' birth.
  13. I wouldn’t have an issue with the age being raised for voting or military service, either. Or a clause in the law that allows for those serving to do some things that they’d normally have to wait until 21 to do
  14. Honestly don't think it'll stop a whole lot of attacks, but it's one of those "if it saves just one life" sort of deals that I can actually get behind a little bit. 18-21 year olds are dumb. I don't mind if they can't go buy a long gun.
  15. Texas House panel OKs bill raising age to buy semi-auto rifles | 12newsnow.com It's still a long shot that this gets done, but it's one piece of gun control legislation that I actually think is a good idea. Give some of these young, dumb kids a couple of years to get out of high school and grow up a little, and get over being bullied or broken up with or whatever else felt like the end of the world when they were 18.
  16. I don't know you, have never mentioned your name on the site, and don't have an issue with any of the reasons you've stated on here. I've heard only good things about you, and respect the fact that you come on here and say who you are. That said, I'm still in agreement with Knox about not wanting a coach who always has a reason to leave. I'm not about to debate a man about what's in his own head and heart, but I think your record speaks for itself in two ways. 1. You're a good coach that 2. doesn't stay in one place. I'm not going to dissect every reason you've posted, but reading them I'd think there's a good chance there will be another reason that comes up causing you to move on to the next school, especially if it's an upgrade. If I were at OF, I would be hesitant to hire someone who has a history of not staying in one place, no matter how good of a track record they have as a coach. I work in education, and often serve on interview panels, and it's always a red flag when a teacher turns in an application with a job history full of one-year stints and a bunch of different schools. Coaching isn't any different in that aspect. All that said, you have a working relationship with those at the school, and are a proven winner, so you do have a nice inside track towards the job. I wish you the best of luck, whether it be at OF or elsewhere.
  17. Yup. Or some districts Might extend the school year a week, have the students attend select Fridays at the beginning of the year, and cut a day or two off of this or that break. As a teacher, I'm holding out hope that I get the opportunity for a 4-day work week at some point before I retire.
  18. He’s a polarizing coach, but from what I’ve heard and seen from lumberton, they love him there. I think most of the criticism comes from outside that community. I’ve been guilty of it myself, but through some of the conversations I’ve had on here, I’ve heard almost all positives from people in and around the program.
  19. He’s got a really good thing going where he is. The community and kids are bought in.
  20. EC might have a couple of down (for them) years, but from what I hear they have some kids 5-6 years out that will have them as good or better as they’ve been the last few years
