  1. Good evening, everyone. I see the conversation is "lively" as usual. I don't think PNG is "racial" at all, by any means. As far as never having an African American coach, maybe none have applied, or if they did, credentials came into play. Ok, PNG not releasing the list was a heated debate. Now, PNG HAS released the list, and like fresh meat thrown to a pack of wolves, the applicants are being scrutinized. Added to this, the argument that some think PNG is racial! C'mon guys, its ok to disagree, but not be disagreeable. We're all grown folk here, lets show some respect. And, Craig Stump.....a GREAT guy whose ears must be burning off from all the talk about him. Whether he applied or not, does not matter. The PNG board will make the ultimate decision and we will ALL have to live with it! Now, draw the line in the sand and lets all get along!
  2. Now that is FUNNY! Subliminal message and all! ;D ;D
  3. BigPoppa thinks Garrett is related to me : ! The misinformed masses !
  4. Sorry, to bust your bubble BigPoppa, not family with Garrett. Just making an observation that his name is being kicked around a lot. Nah....been here at PNG for a looooonnnnngggg time, had never heard of Garrett before this. Now, I have talked to Danaher in the past.....so, hmmm....maybe he's family. I've talked to a few buddies of mine and they've done more research than I have and seem to like Garrett, Vance, and Danaher. Me, I'm neutral, but want the right guy for the job. If it's Garrett, I'll trust my board to make that decision. I don't really know Garretts past other than what I've read on here, but I'm not going to fault a man for wanting to better himself in his career, do you?
  5. They are the top three along with Brandon Faircloth. Agree
  6. I agree completely. Like you, KDO, I've sat with kids time and time again. I teach Algebra II/ Calculus, and have done my time with students preparing for the TAKS. It appauls me that a school district would even consider this action. WOS is academically acceptible, right? "Extra-Curricular" activities are those activities outside the realm of a students everday classwork. TAKS is a measurement of what the student should have learned if the TEKS had been taught correctly. This part I agree with....however, I stand my assessment that not ALL students are "test-takers" and should not be punished for being as such. If I were a parent, I would definitely be calling my school board on this.
  7. As an educator, I don't agree with this decision. I feel the "no pass, no play" rule should strictly be based on daily subject grades. There are some great kids out there, that do well in academics, but are not "test-takers" and the vice-versa is true. I've had very smart students that just could not do well on a standardized test. If this decision is passed, it will hurt ALL extra curricular activities, but the main emphasis will be on sports.
  8. I know this kind of thing takes time, but I sure wish they were hurry up as well. Like everyone else, I want who's best for PNG, and for the applicant himself. Just tired of the drama.
  9. If the board makes a decision before Feb. 10, do they have to announce it, or do they have to wait until then to announce it?
  10. Not sure about Faircloth. But, I still think Garrett, Danaher, and Vance are the top three. A buddy of mine said Garrett interviewed yesterday and it was an impressive one. Havent heard if Danaher and Vance have interviewed yet.
  11. He currently coaches TE's and Inside Receivers, but has coached OL, RB, QB and WR at all levels, including college. Duncanville currently runs the Lake Travis offense, which isn't too shabby. Something that PN-G would probably be interested in getting on the Reservation! Dang, this guy has a good resume. Anything with the words "Lake Travis" attached gets attention. Do you know if he has ever been a HC/AD? I keep hearing his name being mentioned over and over........ Duncanville is 4A, right? How old is he? Sounds like he's got a lot of substance. Any other info you know about him, why he's wanting to change, years as a HC, W-L record, etc? Duncanville is 5A and with Jeff Dicus at the helm, will again become a powerhouse like they were in the late 90's. 1998 was the year they won state in Football and Basketball and made it to the finals in Baseball. He is in his late 30's...39 I think. They are running the same offense and defense that Lake Travis runs, plus Jeff Dicus is doing the same thing at Duncanville that he did at Lake Travis, making champions. Something that Garrett I'm sure has picked up on while being at Duncanville. Garrett has been a champion as a player, (two years at Plano....86 & 87) and he won a national championship as a coach while coaching WR's at the junior college level, using the Jenks' offense. He has never been a head coach, but is definitely capable of being a great one. Oh...I almost forgot...he was a squad leader in Desert Storm while serving in the Marines. Yeah...he's got a "little bit" of leadership experience! Impressive. I like the sounds of this guy. Any other opinons? C'mon, this is PNG we're talking about....opinions matter!

  13. Chris Garrett is a TE coach, right? Seems like I read that on an earlier post.
  14. I feel the top three vote getters are Danaher, Vance, and Chris Garrett, from what I'm hearing. I just want a COACH!
  15. Gabe, either there are a LOT of folks afraid PNG will hire Stump, or, that PNG will hire off the list, or, that there is a conspiracy in the brewing, or......or......or.....it doesnt matter! Most of these folks like to "bash" PNG no matter what..........hmmm.....better watch it, some of "your" coaches may quit and PNG will have thier turn for bashing! However, PNG wouldn't stoop that low. No matter what, PNG stands for the HONOR, PRIDE, and TRADITION that has always and will always be the the catalyst that keeps drawing our huge fan base.
  16. I find it ironic that Halliburton will be singing Matt's praises. When Matt was the head coach, Halliburton had nothing POSITIVE to say about Matt or the Indians. Of ALL the sportswriters in Southeast Texas, Halliburton has shown his "hatred" of PNG time and time again. Even when PNG was winning district championships, state playoffs, and STATE championships, Halliburton was always "irked" to give PNG any positive recognition. Though I support Nederland, everyone knows that the Bulldogs are Halliburtons team and he goes over and beyond to sing thier praises, which, in all reality is "sickening" to some of the Bulldog loyals. This praise of Burnett by Halliburton has no substance because of the writer himself. Yes, the Indians of PNG will have a new coach this year, will rebuild, and earn the respect we once had and enjoyed. We don't need the likes of Tom Halliburton singing our praises because we know how how truthfully he really feels. This article is a "wash"......."fake" substance from a writer who truly hates the Indians. Matt Burnett is a GREAT guy and was a GREAT coach and will continue to support and be a PART of PNG. I like Matt a whole lot and have the utmost respect for him. I just think this article should have been written by someone else other than Halliburton.
  17. Kinda torn on that one....I think there are three names they would be interested in....Danaher, Vance, and Garrett. However, when you analyze these guys, who knows. Heard today the board has pretty much decided on their guy, and he's NOT from our area.
  18. Smitty, rumors are swirling. I just want it over and have a new coach in place and start thinking about next year. At this point, who cares anymore....just get us a coach!
  19. Ok, if PNG is holding out for Stump, whats the BIG deal? This happens all the time in districts. Stump would be GREAT for the PNG program, but I just don't think PNG is holding out for him.......
  20. Its a rumor.....even though, MANY wish it weren't! :
  21. LOL ! I don't think stop playing "Cherokee" for 2 or 3 minutes will ever happen.......!
