Silsbee 68 Hamshire-Fannett 45/FINAL
Boneyard Boys replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
It’s a shame what has become of the Texans and the Rockets... at least the Stros still have a glimmer of hope. Although that cheating thing didn’t go over too well and Verlander is already done for the year. I’ll add something here to stay on topic, I figured Silsbee would win but they went on out and dominated the game. I think they are just starting to hit their stride this season and I wouldn’t be surprised if they go far. I know nothing about Yates but people say they use a heavy pressure defense. I don’t see how you can have a more aggressive press defense than what Silsbee can apply without fouling everybody out. Should be a very interesting game, I think the Tigers keep it close if not pull the upset. One think is for sure, it will be a battle of endurance and Silsbee seems pretty deep to me. Maybe not Yates deep, I heard they have like 30 dudes on the bench... But Silsbee doesn’t lose much when they substitute, at least not on the defensive end. -

What have they lost one game all year, people underestimate them and even their best player. They don’t look like the biggest or most athletic team but they know how to play team basketball. -

Wow, sounds like HJ just gave this one away... but congrats to BC for taking advantage. I can’t believe I missed this game, right there in Vidor’s gym. I thought they were playing on Friday night which I wouldn’t have been able to attend. Damn the luck they played on the weekend, I could have made it and missed a good one. -
Yea that’s what I figured, they weren’t necessarily worried about killing Vidor or showing out but more concerned with setting a standard of consistency and getting primed for the playoff run. I know I like what I saw from them, hands down the best team we’ve seen and we played some really good ones early on.
-
Such a young team, I don’t think a Sr started, 2 FR, 2 Soph, 1 Jr. You know they are going to make some noise in the near future. If they play the way they did tonight and show no mercy, I wouldn’t be surprised if they make noise this year. I don’t see how teams deal with all that pressure unless you have a couple of guards who can handle it or if the refs take over the game.
-
Ballgame is about over and there’s a dunk for Silsbee, they were looking for that one. Up 45, the Tigers continue to press, snow bird and look for leak outs. I’d say they wanted to show Vidor something tonight, mission accomplished. Good luck in the playoffs, if you play this way and get favorable crews there is no stopping you. #14 and #1 look like really good players for the Tigers.
-
I’d say... no other team plays defense like that, none that we’ve seen all season long. This team lost to Lumberton? The refs must have actually made some calls that night and put them on the line, either that or you guys laid back on D.
-
Silsbee has very good team defense, they help on everything, very active hands, very physical and it doesn’t drop off when they bring subs in. Vidor got to the double bonus very early and then the Pirates missed 7 free throws in a row...
-
Long delay here in the 2nd, 21-11 Silsbee it hasn’t been good for the Pirates. Silsbee is everywhere defensively, it’s like they have an extra man on the court. And who is #14 coming off the bench and lighting it up from 3 for the Tigers?
-
Oh man a ref just took a header straight into the hardwood floor, not looking good over here on the Vidor side. A player bumped into him from behind and he took a nosedive, he didn’t catch his fall at all. You could instantly tell he was in the hurt box, blood all over the court, he’s going to need some stitches.

Vidor Senior night at Pirate gym, last time chewing out the refs and questioning the coaching decisions for me lol. I’m going to stay off the phone and take this one in, in all it’s glory. There are plenty of Silsbee fans here to give updates, this might be a long night for the Pirates. First time playing the Tigers in full force in several years. I don’t remember ever seeing Vidor play Silsbee (the real team) in the 3 years I’ve been watching Varsity basketball. That’s probably a good thing with the teams they had, although I would have liked to watch Bush and squad. I’m taking Silsbee by 17 tonight, so maybe I’ll get one prediction right for the season.

Yea, you would think but it's all about matchups I guess. I know Vidor matched up way better with BC than they did WOS this year. Just depends on if you like your chances against a smaller team that can shoot well from the outside or a bigger more athletic team that can rebound and attack you down low. -

The way they started the season I figured LCM would be in the playoff mix. They have some talent, definitely didn’t think they’d finish last in district. -

I think HH will get it done but I have been high on them all season. Should be a hell of a seeding game though, unless HF has other plans. Could be one to go watch, depending on the location. Idk if I’d want to play BC or WOS, tough call maybe they flip for it. -

Congrats to WOS then, nice turnaround season with the new coach coming in. Good luck in the playoffs, guard #10 for HH like your life depends on it and take your chances with the rest. Also a very solid season for BC, good luck to them vs HJ. Shoot the lights out boys and you will have a chance to pull off the upset. -

3-1 dunk count in favor of LCM... who was throwing it down on the Tigers? Give that man some credit. -

The Pirates may have ruined the chance for a WOS vs OF play in game by winning at Orangefield tonight. I kinda wanted to see that but I’ll take the W lol those have been few and far between for Vidor this season. So I guess that means West Orange is locked into the 4 spot no matter what happens Friday? -
Vidor 48 Orangefield 43/FINAL
Boneyard Boys replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
The Pirates have found something good on the defensive end using #12 to play ball denial defense on the other teams best scorer. Locked up a BC scorer, LCM #0, OF #14 and even McClure had a very low scoring game. Combine that with shooting it better and actually making free throws, Vidor has been able to compete at the end of the season. We will think back on losing a late lead at LCM and getting beat by a buzzer beater bomb at BC. Not to mention the Covid forfeit or they might still be alive. I was expecting to see OF use a full court press defense with one of Vidor's guards limping around the whole game but they stayed patient and played back. Didn’t work out, they just missed the shots that they usually hit tonight. -
