  11. We are 85 days away from the start of the Texas High School Football Season and today is......     National Yo-Yo Day There’s no better excuse than this fun holiday to dig out your old yo-yo and show off your talents. It’s National Yo-Yo Day! Did you know that the yo-yo is considered the second-oldest toy in history? In Ancient Greece, yo-yos were made of wood, metal, and terracotta and were often decorated with pictures of the gods. To pay homage to their families, children would place their yo-yos on their family alter as a rite of passage into adulthood. Since that time, yo-yos have been a beloved toy for people of all ages to enjoy. However, the term "yo-yo" wasn't coined until 1920 when a man named Pedro Flores began manufacturing the gadgets at his factory in California. He gave the iconic toy its modern-day name and it's been a hit ever since. Did you know that Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon were all fans of the yo-yo? They would often show off their skills in the White House!

Every year on the first Wednesday of June, runners everywhere celebrate their love for this age-old sport. 16. We are 87 days away from the start of the Texas High School Football Season and today is.....   National Old Maids Day. “Old Maid” refers to an older, childless woman who has never been married. Now-a-days, being a single, unmarried, woman is not looked upon as a “bad thing”.  Some women choose to focus on careers and their lives, postponing marriage and child bearing until later in life and some choose to always remain single,  independent and self sufficient.  However, years ago being unmarried and childless was very much frowned upon and these women were referred to as “old maids” or “spinsters”, which was a degrading term. Today, to celebrate National Old Maids Day, get together with a group of your friends and play an “Old Maids” card game or bake a tasty “Old Maid’s Vinegar Pie” or a delicious “Old Maid Cake” Get after it boys make some pies.. ROFL

Rocky road ice cream is a delicious dessert with an interesting culinary history. In 1929 after the stock market crash, a man named William Dreyer (the founder of Dreyer Ice Cream) calmed his Black Thursday nerves by creating the original rocky road. He mixed chunky almonds, mini marshmallows, and delicious milk chocolate ice cream to create a new ice cream flavor that would make people smile despite the tough economic times. It instantly became an American favorite and soon became popular all over the world. Did you know that in Australia, people add jam to their rocky road ice cream? And in the United Kingdom, they add cherries and raisins! Celebrate National Rocky Road Day with a delicious rocky road ice cream sundae. Yum!

It's National Go Barefoot Day! Embrace the beginning of the summer season and join people across the country in this shoe-free celebration.
