The kids on the line just don't measure up against what the other schools here have on their offense and defensive line.   Supposedly Baytown is going to re-draw the zoning line again maybe eventually that will have an impact.  But I don't think the problem is all the coach

    Team,
I tried to post months ago when this thread was first on, but for some reason I could not login.  My login and password didn't work.  Tried again this week and it worked.  Noticed the thread again and just wanted to share my thoughts.
I did have a son that wore #23.  He would be a freshman this year and likely in the program.  Instead, he is fighting a losing battle with Osteosarcoma.  When I choose the moniker he was a 6 year old playing T-ball.  Those are some memories that I will always cherish.
I have other children (both boys and a girl) who have played sports at Vidor.  This isn't about how Larry treated my children.  My children are cursed with my gentics.  Every minute of Playing Time that they ever get a testimony that hard work and commitment can occassionally overcome genetics and that the talent pool at Vidor is often shallow.
However, Larry did a below average job of coaching as he took over the team and he detoriated into doing a really poor job.  I do not mean that as an indictment on him as a person or as him on a coach.  I am just pointing out that he lost the team, the individual players and the community and as things went South, he only made decisions that made things worse.
I actually think that I am an above average Sports Coach (although it is not what I do professionally) and yet I have sucked it up with some of my teams.  Nothing I did worked and I made decisions that made things worse.  Sometimes it happens.  Sometimes you need a reboot.  I hope the reboot helps Coach Sterling.  I wish the reboot would have happen 2 years sooner for Vidor.

That is how I really feel.

The real success story for WOS...or any other setx team as of late is because of UIL.  Had the UIL left the teams in similar regions WOS never gets to state. Last year or this year.  Yeah I think they'll go again...but who else possibly could out of that joke of a region.  One of the districts you don't even have to win a game to make the playoffs.  And Newton has the same story.  Dropped a class and finally get out of the region.  I'm not saying it's not good..you can't help who you play..but if the districts remain the same it would've been same ole story.
And I think it's clear who has the reading comprehension problem.  I did say EC has never dominated anything other than the area.  And I did mean it.  It's so funny that the domination vanishes as soon as they play a team outside the walls of setx.
I don't "go" for anyone anymore.  I'm old..kids are gone..and just enjoy football.  Every level...well...high school and up.  My kids went to CenTex schools and I bounced around North Texas a bit.  But I've lived/worked all over the state...and I truly mean it when I say setx is well behind.  In many areas of education.  I enjoy living down here for 3 reasons.  Saltwater fishing, duck hunting, and food.  I think setx is the best on those 3 qualities.  Compared to anywhere I've been anyway.
I'm just trying to incorporate some of what I've seen/experienced with the area to put y'all back on an even playing field.  This area hasn't been relevant in football since the oil booms.  Time to change because those days are gone.

I said that the same thing happened to Permian head coach Gary gaines back in the 80's, and added he would later win a state title there. The Permian connection was only mentioned because of the coincidence. Faircloth was on a staff that won a state title at Highland Park. This is just the first of some editorials I'll be doing. Something new.

We were playing Ozen in the shootout last weekend and I have a very interesting exchange with an official. I sent a kid to the scorers table to sub in. The kid was at the table kneeling down before Ozen was to shoot a free throw. I wasn't coaching, but was sitting at the scorers table. I called out "sub" and the official turned and looked at the kid. Then he turned around and signaled for the other ref to give the shooter the ball. When I asked why we didn't get the sub, he said, "It has to come from the officials at the scorers table." Mrs. Boyd looked at me and said she hadn't called for a sub all day. I thought officials were trained to just look at the table from time to time and if they SEE a sub there, to bring him in. I'm I wrong? Either way, this guy was just being a jackass during a FALL tournament. Get real. Its not about you...its about the game and players.

Tyler Dixson reacted to WOSgrad in A disturbing trend on the board that I hope doesn't continue this weekend
Usually as the lone utility of a game update thread for me is to update our scoreboard, I generally will not read a thread once I have gotten a final score in that game.  The only time I may look in a game thread after game day once is when the game thread continues to have life almost a week after the final gun has been fired as it indicates that something is amiss.  I had the opportunity to do that in about 4 different cases and there was certainly something amiss and all for the same reason.
It seems that in all 4 of these cases (I won't mention the specific schools, but after I reveal the problem, I think it will be pretty obvious of which ones I am talking about) supporters of the teams want to lay all of the problems of a team at the feet of the coaching staff, or more particularly, the head coaches at these schools.  I understand frustration at losing to a rival, losing a game that you thought your school should win or by more than you though they should lose by.  But some of the statements in the 4 cases have gone way far beyond that.  They openly question the ability, and in some cases the desire, of these coaches to put a good team on the field.
Folks, we simply have to stop that.  Jordan Wilson has prided himself on this site being a place where all members of our local community, including coaches, could come to talk about what we all love to talk about, high school sports.  And make no mistake, coaches DO read this site.  However, who would want to come to a site where they are not only told they lack the ability to place the squad of your dreams on the field, but that they really don't care if they do or not.  If you truly feel that way, there are places to have your grievances aired and possibly addressed.  However, this is not one of those places.
Simply airing your problem with a coach here simply accomplishes no end.  It only serves to divide teams and distance coaches from the communities whose support, not scorn, is what they need to maintain the respect amongst their ranks and progress their teams to the point that the fans believe they should be.
Not to mention that such conduct is against the rules of this board.  But I would rather put it in terms of a request that you folks, who I know are capable of restraint even in the extreme moments of frustration, exercise that restraint so that more rigid enforcement of the rules is not necessary.  I do so with this warning, should my request not be heeded, that more rigid enforcement will become necessary.
    Thanks for indulging me.folks.

I mean come on now. Kimler, Washington, Hopkins, Seay, Krautz, both mayfields, Carr, the two lineman for Lamar. That's ridiculous. Just because Nederland doesn't run the spread doesn't mean they don't have talent.

Been going to this game since 2010 when I was dating my now wife who is a Nederland grad.  Only game I missed was the 2012 game due to a death in the family but that has been the only game since 2010 that hasn't literally come down the last play.  Some very memorable moments in the last 6 years.  The 4th down stop against on Doty in 2010, the Troy Benjamin 85 yard TD run in 2011, the 4th down interception in the endzone in 2013, 4th down stop on Morse in 2014, and the Brindza FG last night.  Growing up in a town of just 2500 people I was in awe the first time I witnessed 15,000 in a high school stadium and I still get chills every year...and I've only been a spectator for this thing!

WOS missed the playoffs in 2001, 2002 and 2003 as one of the smallest 4A schools in the state.  Both 2002 and 2003 going 8-2 and losing out in a 3-way tie for 1st.
The streaks we have that are rather impressive is not having had a losing season since 1983 and winning 64 out of our past 65 district games.  We won 32 in a row from 2003-2008, lost 1 to Silsbee, and as of this week have yet another 32 game district winning streak going.
We've also gone 143 consecutive games without being shutout dating back to a 0-17 loss to Bay City in 2004.
