Larry Haynes named new AD/HC at Lumberton

I will say this, if you cannot throw the ball, you will not play QB for Larry Haynes. If Lumberton does not have someone who can throw it, he will take their best athlete and teach him how to throw it. Jordan Nolan and Miles Taylor are examples of this. They were both good athletes, but neither was destined to the the type of QB they were before Haynes arrival. Lumberton will sling it. They will live by it, and die by it. I'd assume the QB position is open.
Good post, I agree. My cousin George Westbrook says Larry Haynes may have been one of the best QB's in the history of Liberty County when he played for Hardin in 1974 and Liberty in 1975. Then Haynes played QB 4 years at Lamar. He set records at Lamar. He knows QB play.
I once watched Coach Barrier (OC at Jasper), when he was at HD, turn a tight end named Kade Brett into one of the best QBs HD has ever seen. Best part of that story is that the transformation didn't even start until week 3 of the season. I say that to show that if a coach knows how to coach the QB position, and he has a coachable kid with a little bit of athletic talent, that coach can create a great QB. I would imagine this will probably take place at Lumberton. It's like watching someone mold a lump of clay. haha -

Would you be interested in hiring a guy who doesn't have any teaching certificates, never finished college, but has several years experience working in a chemical plant? Chemical plants are sorta like science.?! The only game you'd have to worry about is the HD game. Loyalties run pretty deep. Let me know if you are interested. -

I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. I certainly didn't mean for this to turn into a discussion about whether or not I was a good football player! I probably couldn't even remember how to pad a pair of pants these days, so that is a moot point. I have had many conversations with Coach Haynes. He is a good man, and a good offensive coach. He lacks a lot on the defensive side of the ball, and I think even he would admit that. I have seen his Hardin program crumble due to discipline issues. I work with a guy who played for him at Crosby and told me the same thing happened there due to discipline issues. That is why I have formed the opinion I have. You don't have to agree with it, but I feel it is justified. I wish him luck. I really do. I just kinda think a 4A program, with recent success, in a great town could've done a little better. That's all. I hope Ltown proves me wrong. -

I don't think there is a big difference between the kind of football played at the 2A level, and the 4A football played at Lumberton. The problem is that the 4A football played at Vidor, Ned, PNG etc. is much different than 2A football. Haynes was probably a mistake, but we will see. Maybe he will surprise me. Look for Lumbertons discipline within their program to plummet. If they can overcome that and the fact that they will play NO defense, they might be ok. -

Alto Head Coach Keith Gardner retires....

I too think they will struggle without Gardner, but I still feel they will win their district. Didn't realize that would help them avoid the Mighty Bobcats in the second round. I, for one, would love a run to the regional round, then see them there. However it happens, I want Alto, and I want to beat Alto. I kinda think the boys feel the same way! I absolutley cannot wait until August!
"help them avoid the Might Bobcats" by winning district , HA! Maybe the other way around buddy, We beat HD once and we'll do it again on our way to Jerry World in 2013. Their's a lotta teams that want to beat Alto but talking about it and actually doing it are 2 different things. Put that in your book :P
You obviously have a short memory. 1 more minute on that clock and HD continues to bash that football down Alto's throat on the way to a victory on that cold November afternoon in Lufkin. The clock was the only reason we were throwing. It certainly wasn't that Jacket defense. You guys made Chris Herman a star that day, and he has turned into a MAN during this offseason. He and the rest of us will be back to look you in the eye, no matter what round it happens in. Good luck...win as much as you can before the red and black ruins that trip to "Jerry World". -
If I want my son to be a christian I take him to church. If I want my son to be a great citizen, that is my job. If I want my son to learn to play football, I have to rely on a coach.
This post is a little ignorant. If you want your son to be a Christian, that is your job. Disciple him. If you want your son to be a great citizen, model that behavior and he will follow suit. If you want your son to learn to play football......wait, doesn't your son want to learn to play football on his own? Or is that something you want for him? Just like our good buddy Bedelmon, Search seems to be a little league hero coach who thinks he knows more than the guys who have made a career out of it. It's really a sad state of affairs when folks like this run good men out of these towns in this area. Oh well. -

I don't care who they hire, as long as he's not currently employed at HD. I'm looking forward to seeing them again in Rd 2. That butter taste still lingers. All junk aside, congrats to Coack Gardner in a great career. -

Not one player from HD but players from Hardin and West Hardin? How do players get chosen for this thing? -
His mother passed away this morning. Please keep him in your prayers as they deal with this loss. We all poke at each other and have fun on here, but what I love about this board is that we can all put that aside and support one another when the time comes.

What does that say for your team????
and when a team fumbles 5 times and still beats you by 3 TD's, what does that say about your team? ;)
You know what it means Aggies! It means that HJ played a great game and should be awarded a trophy for a moral victory! Those DE's over there at HJ are stout. Silsbee couldn't run to the outside all night!!

Caused Silsbee to fumble 5 times... You see guys, we have had a coach that thought we couldnt learn to run blitzes, or g-blocks, or even cut-blocks. Only ran about 10 different offensive plays.... We are one of the top academic schools in the state and your telling me we cant learn a blitz? I have never believed that. Changes are upon us ladies and you will see how we stack up soon enough. I dont know if ya'll know this, but we just got a FOOTBALL COACH... And he may be bringing 2 more FOOTBALL COACHES with him... But I know this also, we will have the best 11 on the field instead of the best 7 like in years past.... Their will be some names you guys have never heard of... If having faith in a these boys makes me dillusional, then I'm guilty as charged....
I'm assuming that Edelmon will be that name?
Dude, Really???? Thats how we're going to continue to play this? Have you ever googled scatting? May need to change that name... Pervert...
I would expect that someone as juvenile as you would point that out. I'm not surprised by that development. Just so you know, the Scat is a play that has been run in this area for years by some of the most dominant teams this area has ever seen. See Newton, Kirbyville, Coldspring, and to a lesser extent, HD and Anahuac. I wouldn't expect you to know anything about dominant football in this area though, seeing as how you think forcing a few turnovers and getting beat by multiple touchdowns is impressive.

He said their faster player ran a 4.67 40 yard dash. The wing-t is perfect for them. Because no they DONT have the athletes to match up with kids in their district
Our kids will match up with anyone in the district... I'm not saying we are fast, never said that, but we do have some exceptional athletes. Speed doesnt always win over football instinct bra... And its the "slot-t"...
