Newton needs tougher schedule anyone interested?
No one likes to lose. Newton would have probably beaten any 2-4A team in East Texas. I think Newton could have beaten Nederland
That's quite the stretch. -

Football is not a sport that should be played all year. A kids body is not developed to do that. They need time to heal their bodies not keep beating it down and possibly cause some major health issues at a very young age. My son plays but ounce the season is over it's on to basketball and baseball. Those of you who put their kids through the beating they take in football all year round are living vicariously through their son for something the parent may not have accomplished when they were young in my opinion.
Yep, year round football is a bad idea!
Why? Because the parents enjoy the glory more than the kids enjoy playing. Hence why anyone would subject their children to year round sports of any kind.
I know if I would let my son, he would play football year round.....and I'm not living through him, I just support him.......but, I would never let him for health reasons.
Maybe I wasn't clear in the way I worded the original post. I'm saying exactly what you are saying. Kids will play year round, but parents need to intervene and stop them from doing it. I didn't mean that the kids didn't enjoy it, just that I feel the parents enjoy being football parents more than kids like beign footbal players!

Central QB Mitchell has Lamar Offer
Scatright replied to BMTSoulja1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
No doubt! If he want to Lamar, it would help to grow their fan base. If Central supporters started going to Lamar games to support Mitchell, and other fans from other school followed suit to support their players who were staying at home, it could change everything for Lamar football. I like the idea. -

Sorry for the lack of posts. My nephew plays for Liberty and I just joined for game updates. That being said, last spring Abshire and Finney put together a deal where HD agreed to bus Devers JH kids to Dasietta after school for fb practice and games. After the deal was agreed to by the respective school boards, Finney came over and talked to the Devers kids. After Abshire left for Liberty, Devers's new super killed the agreement. For what it's worth, I think it's great that you love your team so much, but please don't hijack threads with the analysis of HD's offensive because I'd venture to say most people who clicked on this topic could give a R'sA about it (although I agree, you fit the system to the talent and not the talent to the system).
Good info. Do you think this will hurt HD? Devers kids have always had the choice of HD or Liberty. Devers numbers are always real low. Finney does a good job of cornering the market. Walking driveways and hallways.
That's extremely interesting, if it's true. No one has ever thougth of making a JH football deal with Devers to corner the market on any athletes that could be poached from that part of the area. This is why Finney is so great. It's also why we are so lucky to have him. -
Guys get real nobody bigger is coming. If he wants a bigger offer he will have to go juco first. He is good but he is way below the radar and isn't at a school that produces top end talent every year therefore he will get overlooked. People saying wait for a better offer dont know recruiting and im glad/hope none of you saying this are the kids parents because you would be giving the child bad info. Like I have said before I handle WOS recruiting if you dont have a big offer by now 9/10 your not going to get it so take what you have or go juco! Its not the 90's anymore where kids get scholarships after their senior season is finished colleges recruit earlier now days. Most schools are looking at 2014/2015 kids now. Sealy star Ricky Seals-Jones verbally commits to Texas A&M

Aggies have excelled with his offense because Johnny is that good. All these recruits coming in are doing so because of the excitement of playing in the SEC and the wins the AGGIES posted up. Just wait till they get the wrecking crew in line.
Is Johnny that good or is Sumlin? Keenum's passing numbers dwarfs Manziel's. If A&M went 6-6 in the SEC Sumlin wouldn't be flipping all these guys. Besides Joekel and Matthews there weren't any stars on A&M's roster before he got there. Only kid besides those two A&M had committed that was a high school blue chipper is Trey Williams, Evans was a basketball player. It's clear Sumlin is a better coach than Sherman was but the real reason he's going to start dominating the recruiting in Texas is because the African-American parents in the state are excited to have a school to send their kids to that has an African-American head coach. Same reason the minorities vote in a landslide for Obama, doesn't make it right but that's just how it is.
Sorry coog.... i'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one. It has nothing to do with having an african american coach. Its just the demeanor of Coach Sumlin as an individual. He has always been able taking care of business, and he does a great job of motivating he players to give their best every night. He doesnt pressure is players into feeling like the HAVE to win every night like BAMA & LSU... Also he has great supporting staff. Him being african american is just a plus... ;)
Of course someone that's not African-American would say that. You replace Mack Brown with Kevin Sumlin and ALL of those kids he flipped stay at UT. What's the difference, they want to play in the SEC where most of these kids parents that come from disadvantaged homes won't be able to see them play more than a couple times a year? At UT those same kids parents could make it to 6 or 7 Big 12 games. I'm not playing the race card at all, I'm just telling you from a different point of view that its clear you don't think exist. Is it a coincidence that all the players he flipped are African-American? How else do you think he's getting these kids to come to a school where barely 3% of the kids on campus look like them and a large portion of those are athletes too? Tradition? The 12th man? They want to maroon out? My cousin was an All-American at North Shore and was recruited by UT and A&M. Said the two places as far as facilities and a place to live weren't even close, which is why he committed in February barely a week after signing day. What's changed, the Kyle Field seating capicity? If Sumlin was at UT or TCU he would recruit the same way he's starting to now and A&M's move to the SEC would have them 6-6. I bet if it was available Sumlin would ditch A&M in a hurry for a chance to go to UT, and I'm telling you that as a graduate of the A&M system. Old habits die hard down here for the African-Americans too, to think anything otherwise would be going through life with blinders on. I guess if you have never walked a day in those shoes it easy not to need a walking stick though.
It's odd to me that when coaches are hired, everyone is supposed to ignore race give equal opportunity to all, but once they are hired, we can then point back and give their race credit for their success?! Am I the only one who feels that way? Saying Sumlin's success has been brought along by his race is discrediting the fact that he is a great football coach. We cannot have it both ways, we are either color blind or not. If a coach was hired because he was white so that he would have a recruiting advantage in the Woodlands and Highland Park, folks would lost their minds, but most are rather mum on the comment that Sumlin can turn recruits and recruit the inner city because he is black. I just find the double standard flabergasting. -

Devers and HD football agreement.....I"m confused! -
HD vs. Deweyville will be a great game next season. A full year of Coach Finney's offseason program and a year of learning Huckabay's offense will make HD very tough. That is taking into account that HD loses only 4 starters to graduation and will return the district MVP, district Defensive MVP, their starting and backup QB, top 3 WR's, top 6 rushers, 3 starting offensive linemen and 10 of 11 defensive starters.
I completley agree. Coach Babin has Deweyville headed in the same direction as Coach Finney has HD headed. Both of these programs will be better next year than they were this year. Looking forward to this match up in predistrict next season.

Foreman was the OC at WOS, one of the most successful programs in the state, OC at Dayton was also at the helm of a prolific offense at one of the schools most successful 4A programs, and Taylor has been the OC at 5A LaPorte and had great success. Just because these men haven't been HC/AD's before, doesn't mean they dont' have more experience than Joe. I am a HD supporter, but even I can admit that HD is small fries compares to the above mentioned programs. -

I feel like Chad Taylor is an obvious finalist, if he wants the job. He would be great. He is from Liberty, and wasn't he a finalist when Deel got hired? He already showed last year the he is interested in coming back to the area. Liberty make a lot of sense for him. The Dayton OC makes sense too. I"m sure Toby Foreman will apply, as well as Larry Haynes. All those names make me think that Joe Slack has no chance here. No swipe at him, he just doesn't have the experience of any of these guys. -
