LSU wins game 1 2-0. Nola CG.
Good lesson to the young kids out there. You don't have to throw 98 like Gray to be successful. Nola sat at 86-88 with movement, hit his spots, and dominated the OU lineup all game. He won't get the big signing bonus like Gray, but he knows how to pitch and get people out.
Plus, he's Adderal free. LSU closes out this series in 2 games.

Dulles defeats Arl. Martin 3-0. D. Mills picks up the win with a CG. Advance to the 5A State Championship game.

Awesome pick. Not sure if he will be in Houston by July like Harold Reynolds asserted, but he is pretty close to being MLB ready. Was also happy for Hunter Dozier (8th pick by the Royals) from SFA. I worked a few years with his brother at RSS. Good people.
These kid is the real deal. Smart with a great family support system as well. He says all the right things in the interviews but I would be very surprised he if ends up in College Station....at least next year. I got him going in the 8 spot tonight.
He tweets about how much he wants to go to school. I get the feeling that's a ploy. He'd be one 300 lb d-lineman away from retirement. Plus, if baseball does not pan out, he can always go back to school for football.

Nick Buckner (North Shore) OF'er should go in the first 10 rounds. Some scouts have him projected even higher. 99.9% chance he'll sign no matter where he's picked. Josh Pettitte (Deer Park) Might get drafted, but I would be suprised if he passed up the college experience.

I would rather they go with Appel from Stanford. Seems like a stand up guy and a solid pitcher to boot.
They passed on Appel last year and everyone has them taking Gray now. I wonder if there is something the Astros don't like about Appel besides the fact he wanted a truckload of money last year.
Based on the pending sale of the club at teh time, I'm betting it was the huge contract request. From a personal standpoint, I would pass on Gray due to the failed drug test. There are enough "arms" available that are doing the right things. -

Gotta be doing something right. Take a trip to Austin this week, and bring the check book.
A coach coming from a baseball program like Pleasant Grove would have trouble duplicating his success with the parameters of the PN-G job. PN-G has great players in the program but it is tough working around the football/off-season workouts during baseball season. This is not a shot at Coach Faircloth and/or PN-G Football. This will be a very attractive job, but many experienced and successful baseball guys will give pause before checking out the situation. Others will willingly choose to operate within the present system.
My thoughts exactly. Definitely a football first position. They need to take a look at some schools where baseball stands on its own. A school like Barbe in La. comes to mind.
Never happen in Texas. Cecchini has a pretty good set up at Barbe. Very similiar to what most 5A baseball coaches have in Texas. Most smaller schools will always require a head coach to have a second coaching assignment. Coaching "baseball only" at Deer Park was the main reason Rupp left GCM. -
Exactly, I am sure they were saving mills for game 3 but there was no excuse with the bullpen they have to trot him out there for the 7th inning. Hearing the Dulles coach is retiring after this year anyway so he may not care about the backlash.
I thought that they went 3 games?
-
Dulles will play Jersey Village tonight in a 1 game playoff for the 5A Region 3 title. I do not think Mills pitched last weekend in the semi-final series against defending state champion Cy Ranch. That fact itself makes you question again why they went with him for so long. The have a full stable of solid arms as many on here have said. We shall see what happens.
