  1. Great job West Brook! Very happy for them and Coach T. I would say Southeast Texas showed pretty well this year in SA.
  2. Hurley won’t likely survive this season. But even if he did, I’d be surprised if he ever logs a minute for the Sun Devils hoops team.
  3. Congrats Lions and Coach Joubert on a remarkable season. I think Mr Sells will be one we talk about for years to come. On a side note, @AggiesAreWe, @BBfan061 wanted me to ask you if you were rooting on Kountze or Paradise today?
  4. You saw that too?! My wife found the episode much more interesting than my history lesson of the Four Horsemen of HD…
  5. Congrats to Orangefield’s own, Jay Bruce, on back to back championships with Martin’s Mill!
  6. To be fair, after watching a true crime show with the wife last week, things have actually improved at Hull Daisetta. At least they don’t still have principals murdering coaches for stealing their secretary girlfriends. So kudos may actually be in order as opposed to suspensions…
  7. Absolutely. Not many coaches would see Lamar as a “destination job.” He is one of the few. He told many people when he got the job that, one way or another, this would be his last stop. And if you know him, he means what he says. Personally, I hope he’s got several years left in him.
  8. We love to bitch and moan about coaches/coaching but aren’t so quick to give credit where it’s due. Lamar has improved every single year under Brooks’ tenure. I don’t know how much more you can ask for, especially when the one team finishing ahead of you is paying to get players who have played, could play for some lower power 4/5 schools. Marco Born was pretty much a train wreck as AD at Lamar but I think we can safely say he got this one right. Not only has Alvin Brooks done a good job building this program, he’s a fine man who is 100% loyal to the University. Let’s give credit where it’s due.
  9. Signs of the apocalypse… Just actually looked at the honorees though. Silsbee had 9 kids honored. Used to be if you lettered, you got a jacket or a patch if you already had a jacket. Now you get “All District” 😂
  10. My thought too. Plus it feels weird rooting for Yates in the regional final. I always root for the region winner at State though.
  11. Because of its consistency, Silsbee has been the standard in 4A. The names and faces have changed out of DFW and hasn’t been one particular school like Silsbee.
  12. Was telling someone the other day that you know a program is in rarified air when you spend a season ranked in the top 10, go undefeated in district, win a playoff game, and then lose in the second round to one of the most storied programs in the history of the state from a city 350 times bigger than yours and the season feels like a huge disappointment. A bad year for Silsbee is a dream season for most schools. And this season will be the exception to the rule I’m sure for awhile.
  13. If they had 17 fouls at half, doesn’t sound like they were “giving up” anything…
  14. When you charge $500k to $1M for a retainer and charge $750 to $1000 per hour (very educated guesses), the money won’t last a decade. It’s also harder to withdraw from a case when you have to respond to Johnny Stevens, “your honor, I was only paid X to represent Mr Walker and I’ve already billed him in excess of that.” And I’ve not nothing against DeGuerin, he’s a helluva lawyer and that’s his value in the market. But you’re also never getting released from representing him through trial. His continued representation is something else and I’m sure it’s him choosing to see this through.
  15. That may actually be correct. But no doubt he was paid a small fortune before “the money ran out.” By that, I don’t mean I don’t believe you or your memory but more I don’t doubt what DeGuerin is telling the court about being “pro bono” now. But I would love to be “pro bono” after collecting fees that buy homes on Thomas Road. Whether the money ran out is obviously a whole ‘nother story and I am more than skeptical about that.
  16. Tricky question but most likely Dick would never disclose claiming atty-client privilege.
  17. It’s all a different recruiting landscape. Lamar has very little NIL money so they are going to have to find diamond in the rough types. Hamilton is their big and he’s one of their best players. Holyfield is also very long and is arguably their best player (but he prefers playing the perimeter). Guys like Shumate of McNeese (the best big in the conference) is only there because they can afford to pay him high mid major money.
  18. Lamar had a flat one last night in SA vs Incarnate Word. Good news is SELA also lost, at home vs Northwestern, to leave the Cards a game clear alone in second. Bad news is if they had one, it would have give them a one game cushion which would have allowed them to split the final two at home vs McNeese and Nicholls and still have the byes all the way into the semis at the conference tournament.
  19. I can’t imagine what he’s paying Dick DeGuerin to come down here for hearings about the $2500 he’s paid over several years but I can’t imagine it’s not more than $2500 a pop. In fact, with appeals, etc, I would be willing to bet the total sum was close to, if not exceeds the amount of restitution. There aren’t many criminal defense lawyers in the COUNTRY more expensive than DeGuerin.
  20. 😂 and I never seemed to be on the good side of one of those…
  21. Price is Right rules??
  22. Great post. I think most understand what they have with Daspit. He’s a rising star in the profession and they are fortunate to have him. They have some really good kids and some coming up as well from what I hear. Future is bright for the Cardinals. And to compliment the current coach isn’t a slam on the previous one. Robertson did a very nice job with the program while he was there, and I don’t know him but I hear he’s a good guy as well.
  23. I don’t believe that’s ever been changed. If the jury had given Walker more than a ten sentence, he would have been ineligible under 42A.055 of the CCP.
  24. Just watched the 4th quarter on KOGT. Don’t watch a lot of girls HS basketball but always said that if you played a drinking game where you took a shot any time one of the girls hit the floor or there was a tie ball, you would die of alcohol poisoning. After watching tonight, that appears to hold true even in a regional finals game…
