Alltime SETX Basketball Tourney Field of 16
TxHoops replied to BADSANTA's topic in High School Boys Basketball
The best team I’ve seen here since the undefeated Perkins-led Ozen team was the state semi finalist Central team (2012?). Never convince me that if Toe doesn’t go down in the first quarter against Kimball, that team doesn’t win state. -
Alltime SETX Basketball Tourney Field of 16

You would have to put the 88/89 Lincoln team on there imo (BJ Tyler). And obviously the Perk Ozen state title team would be near or at the top of the list. -
I sure hope these amateur infectious disease experts on the internet are correct.

*2020 State Tournament Brackets*

No he is not. Apparently the death threats were abundant after its release. And I’m like you - knowing what I do about some of the things that went on there, I thought Buzz went pretty easy on them. -

👆 I don’t care if anyone agrees or disagrees with it, that was a well-written, well-reasoned post. They probably didn’t start it, but Odessa Permian certainly perfected the “recruiting process” during the Oil Boom in the 70s and 80s. Unlike Yates, the big selling point was financial remuneration. Dads got jobs, Moms got jobs. Families got homes. And an above average football program was turned into a powerhouse/dynasty. Bissinger wrote a fantastic book on the town, the program, and the issues of race that still plagued the area at the end of the 80s. Why he didn’t delve more into that aspect of Mojo I guess only he can answer. Because it was certainly there and no secret in West Texas and elsewhere. But no one said Boo about it Yates didn’t invent that wheel (or HF or EC or whomever else you want to bring up about HS “move ins”). They are merely operating under rules that have probably been skirted since the UiL came into existence. -
** STATE TOURNAMENT GAME THREAD**/TOURNEY CANCELLED
TxHoops replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
This is absolutely the truth. I might be wrong but I would think given the style and type of game Yates plays, they are best suited to pick up in a few weeks or a month and lose the least steps, so to speak. -

You’re right. You’d be shocked at how out of shape some of these kids are coming off a high school season. And I’m not close to kidding. -
Buzz Williams named SEC Coach of the Year
TxHoops replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in College Sports Forum
Was arguing with one of my best friends when UT last had a basketball coaching search. He said they should hire Buzz, I wanted them to hire Shaka. There is no telling if and when I will ever live that down. -
49th Straight State Tournament

Southland conference tournament is going to be family only (sort of, each player and coach gets so many tickets to their games only). -

Yates has the best roster in the state, regardless of classification. They should mow through the teams, even at State. But I’m not close to convinced they will. -
I’ve found it most humorous that the ones who complain the loudest when others get a move in, often are the ones who have benefitted the most from move ins on a consistent basis over the years. Goes to show that even basketball isn’t immune from hypocrisy.

Well at least we know one thing. Bray for MVP was the easiest vote in the history of all district selections. If you happen to see him 😉, please let him know how proud we are of him and especially the young man that he is.
-
I think it’s more give it to the guy who won district like happens the vast majority of the time. Which is fine - it is what it is. But it also provides us with fodder for the board which is nice when our teams’ seasons are over. Everybody has an opinion; the other coaches are the only ones’ whose counts.
-
With Bush getting MVP (which was a no brainer and a given), McClure is clearly the offensive POTY. Got nothing against the other kid who is a nice player, but it’s obviously just a case of let’s recognize as many kids as we can. Just a pet peeve of mine. Give the best player the award and put the other on first team. I can understand it in a blue moon if it’s too close to call. Not the case here.
-
I’m saying him winning this district with the roster he had isn’t earth shattering. And at least a couple of the other coaches in that district did more with less imo. And yes, I believe 2-3 other coaches in that district “could” (not “would” because this is obviously pure speculation and conjecture) have won district outright with that team. And again, let’s not turn this into a Sigler isn’t a good coach argument. He’s obviously an excellent coach. He just wouldn’t have been my choice for COTY in THIS particular year. Only because there were a couple of other remarkable jobs done in this district. But again, it’s not the worst part of the superlative voting on this team.
-
HJ had the team with the brightest future (if you don’t count players who would be incoming freshmen next year). Very comparable teams this season (thus, the split). But with Bush, if I’m picking a roster, it’s Silsbee easily imo.
-
I’m saying that if that’s the first time you’ve heard a coach voting for himself, there must never have been a unanimous COTY vote. Because by necessity, those two would be mutually exclusive.
-
Argument could be made that with that roster, Rideaux or Mitchell wouldn’t have needed a tiebreaker game to win district.
-
So based on those two sentences, a COTY vote has never been unanimous?
-
I would have chosen Rideaux or Mitchell. But I would have been fine with Davis as well. Nothing against Sig. He always does a great job. But this was a year to give it to someone else. Just IMO.
-
Agreed. Same with all the Co-players of the year. Obviously Bush is a no brainer. But in one of those categories, one of the players is in a different hemisphere than the other.

Bernie scares me. I like to be prepared for the unthinkable. If the unthinkable happened and he was able to “accomplish” half of what he’d like to in 4 years, could take us decades to recover. I know confidence is high, but 2016 taught us anything can happen. At the same time, if the “Shanghai” of Bernie is completed by the Democratic Party yet again, the President could get more mileage out of that than the economy.

Great thread @gonelsons ! 👏👏
