The 11th annual Thanksgiving Hoopfest Schedule
TxHoops replied to SportsJunkie32's topic in High School Boys Basketball
They just have kids on another level. The Cunningham kids had 15 & 8 vs the #1 ranked team in the state taking only 7 shots and no FTs (3-3 on 3s). 6’7” PG with an NBA body who literally does whatever he wants on the court, even against elite defenders. He could go for 50 a game at the HS level if he wanted. Every summer I see kids who you can see should be pros. You just don’t know how successful they will be at that level. Maybe once a summer you see a kid who you think could be an NBA all star. Summer before last it was Anthony Edwards who is now a freshman averaging over 20 a game for Georgia. Last summer it was Cade Cunningham. -

66-63 Final - SC wins. Impressive showing by Duncanville. And despite the names, SC is not on the level of the big boys. -

Sierra Canyon leads Duncanville by 4 with under a minute to play. -
My goodness. Someone tell Sam he sounds like aggy. Bowl eligibility and moral victories are not the standard at The University.

Please for the love of all that is good and holy, hire this guy Arkansas. I promise you he will improve your program by leaps and bounds. And honestly, I could see him being a perfect fit in Fayetteville.
-
I think they could definitely play with them. But they would be underdogs against them or IMG for sure. Those two for sure are better and deeper. But could Sierra Canyon upset them? Absolutely they would be close enough to pull the upset on the right night.
-
Honestly, I applaud Coach Wise for having the cojones to play these games. And he knows he has the kind of kids that will come out and play hard regardless. It will only make them stronger when you have a team you aren’t worried about destroying their confidence. His kids know they can play. And I seriously think Yates could play with any UiL team in the state. After seeing Duncanville last weekend, I probably would make Yates a favorite against them. Peavy would be the best player on the floor but the next 3 or 4 best would all be Lions.

Yates had their “easier” game today: To give you guys some perspective, I think Yates could go toe to toe with Duncanville and probably have a better/deeper team than D’ville. That’s how good these national teams are. As I said, Montverde or IMG would beat ANY HS team in this state by as much as they want. Sunrise’s best player is 6-8 wing Zach Clemence from San Antonio. Had a chance to see him play in the NCAA camp this past summer at U of H. His game reminds me a lot of Rick Barry’s boys. Got off to a hot start as Sunrise built a 25-3 lead over Yates. -

I agree. I will take a roster full of guys like him in any sport. Glad he was okay. When he went down, it certainly did look bad.
-
This.

Play with anyone in the state for sure. The top national teams, no sir. To put it in perspective, MV has the top 2020 kid and the top 2021 kid from the state of Texas. The former being the #2 ranked kid in the country that is a big, 6-7 guard who literally does what he wants with the ball.
-
Duncanville is not close to Montverde. They have one player who could play on that team. And he would be a role player.
-
😂😂😂 I assume you’re trolling now.
-
That team is not as good as Montverde. Many have Cunningham projected as the #1 pick of the 2021 draft. He will almost certainly be a lottery pick. His dad isn’t a hall of famer, but he will certainly be the best player in the gym. And he’s just the beginning. Montverde is deep, deep. Scottie Barnes is a highlight reel. Only IMG boasts a roster that competes with theirs.
-
Yes, that’s primarily who their team is comprised of (UAA’s Hardwork). In fact, same coach even. Solid team. Best player is the big (Colbert) who is a junior I believe. Not near the horses Yates will face in Dallas though. We will see how they respond.

Cornerstone 99 Yates 77 F A buddy of mine who is a Houston basketball “pundit” tweeted this week that if Yates has their bigs, they take down Montverde. Unless those bigs are Anthony Davis and Joel Embid, I need whatever he was having. And Yates is very, very good. But you can’t full court press, run and gun teams with elite national guards. Cornerstone has very good guards but not a one that would see meaningful minutes for MV.
-
SA Cornerstone up 30 on Yates after 3. The Dallas games could get way ugly because Montverde AND Sunrise are way better than Cornerstone. Saw them last weekend in SA. They are good, but not national powerhouse good. They lost to Potter’s House out of Jacksonville, FL on Friday, who lost on a buzzer beater to Duncanville on Saturday.

And here we thought SFA beating Duke was the biggest miracle last night. Watching the video (and Mack’s above might have been the most incredible I’ve seen) I would have said it was impossible there weren’t going to be a lot of casualties. Hopefully the 3 injured will make full recoveries.
-
Not the best way to begin your birthday. But still hoping you have a happy one 👍
-
Wow. It’s literally a miracle this wasn’t much, much worse.
-
Are you guys being evacuated Mack? Regardless, please be careful buddy. Have people I know as far away as Buna and Lake Charles that felt it.
-
No one gets calls against Duke. A team like the Jacks is going to get absolutely hamstrung. To win on the road with a 23 FT differential is amazing.
