From The Files Of "That It's All About The Coaching!"
TxHoops replied to Reagan's topic in High School Football
Maybe the best example you’ve given. If you look at Celina AND Pilot Point during those periods, there is a direct correlation of the success of those two schools based upon at which G.A. was coaching. The answer, of course, is a bit of both. Those who think it’s all players are naive and those who think it’s all coaching are misguided. But like players, all coaches are not created equal. I have a sneaking suspicion some WOS fans will come to realize this when Cornel retires. -

They won the game by a final of 122-45. Dang near 80 pts. If McCain, Bush, Adams, or any of the starters got hurt in a game where they were on the floor with a 70 pt lead, people would be calling for the coach’s head. This might be the silliest argument I’ve ever participated in. -

You may be right. Coldspring is definitely one of the favorites in the region.

You’re supposed to use air quotes when you say that. But he might honestly be 6-6. Still saying Ramsey is closer to 6-2 than 6-4.

A quote from this week’s episode of This Is Us, from the bit character, Reverend Hawley: “Act in a way that will make you smile when you’re old and grey and lying under a pale pink nursing home blanket, thinking about the life you lived. You do that, you’ll be the man your father wanted.” Now that is advice to live by.

My friend, I would bet a fortune you would love the Darrell’s special. I’m hoping to be able to introduce you guys myself
-
Please do! And it’s kind of a man’s mega sandwich so if the wife likes something a little less meaty, the shrimp po boy is also good. I posit that any guy who passes on the Special loses his man card but it’s permissible for the ladies.
-
Wise move by Thompson imo. For next year anyway, he will probably be next man up behind Sam which means he will have a decent chance to see some action. Not sure he would be in that position at any other school at this level.
-
@Tigers2010 Darrell’s (go a little further up the loop and exit Ryan St). Get the Darrell’s Special (with the Jalapeño mayo if you like a little spice). Best sandwich I’ve ever had anywhere. You can thank me later.

He and Adams both signed with Austin Peay. Probably at least 100k apiece in scholarship values.

Sigler has always (as long as I’ve been following anyway) had very integral parts of his team play both so I would say definitely not (i.e., he doesn’t interfere with them playing). McCain’s big brother ended up with a football schollie. Every kid and his family makes their own decision. You could tell Devon was going to be a D1 player years ago. The only question was how high. Those scholarships are worth a lot of money and I don’t blame the kids who don’t want to risk it on the gridiron when hoops is their ticket. And with Bush’s frame, I definitely wouldn’t want to be absorbing shots on that body when he’s another kid whose future is on the court. Reminds me of Chase Shugart in Bridge City a few years back. Kid was a really talented QB who had already signed or committed to UT in baseball. He and his family decided no football his senior year. He’s now slinging the ball for a living.
-
So was McCain. Saw him play in jr high. Kid was electric and was easily the best player on the field that particular night. I think he and Bush may have been on the same team at the time (Devon was a 7th grader) - can’t remember if that was before Bush went to Legacy.
-
He’s listed at 6-4. I would say he’s more around 6-2. I wasn’t sure if he’d grown but seeing him next to his teammate Micah Peavy (who’s a legit 6-5), I’d say that’s still about right. No matter - he plays bigger than 6-4 anyway.

Sorry, thought this thread was something else by the title. Moving along...

Aren’t you Mr. Smarty Pants?

I forgot about the new Redshirt rules until you posted this. Makes even more sense to transfer for Boo. In all honesty, probably better for the program if Sam stays healthy. Going to have RJ, Card and whoever else battling for that position the next year.

Put another way, would any Texas fan on this board take Hurts over Ehlinger? I didn’t think so.
-
Someone remind me how the sec did in those bowl games.... Fact of the matter is, QB play has been weak in that conference as have the offenses. The “prolific” Georgia offense looked rather pedestrian against Texas, as did Tua against Clemson. All things considered, this is the happiest I’ve been about an OU QB in a few years at least. Hurts is serviceable, he’s not close to what they’ve had imo.
