  1. They are a “blue blood” of Texas HS basketball. Rarefied air to be sure.
  2. Winning third round playoff games by 20+ and still complaining. Boo hoo 😉
  3. At least one huh? Dorsey and maybe one more? The two athletic wings I really like (Jones and Sherwood) are both juniors though.
  4. I think Maxpreps may be correct for once. 4? They have plenty of talent coming back though.
  5. Sounds like how our dear, departed friend @Hagar loved to describe playing in Cleveland.
  6. I would doubt it. I haven’t seen them with my own eyes but they got 20 pieced by Mexia a couple of weeks ago.
  7. Exactly. The problem with living by press is when you play teams with size and elite (relative term) guards. Hitchcock’s basket may look like Holland with all those windmills…
  8. Hitchcock by 10-20. I predict a lot of dunks if Kountze stays in that diamond too long. If Kountze shoots the lights out, and rebounds better than expected, could have a puncher’s chance. They should match up better than OF regardless.
  9. 3 maybe? Smith, Wrinkle and Rucker?
  10. I think the AAW line would be around 10-12. Harris would be the best player in the game. Miller second. But the next 3 or 4 would be Hitchcock guys imo.
  11. That will be a fun one. This year that is one I would have traveled to see. Not sure what they will each look like next year.
  12. Had this very thought earlier. Silsbee would be the favorite but Hitchcock would be the best team they’ve played since non-district. Would be fun to watch I think because Hitchcock is just as athletic.
  13. Like Silsbee’s Miller, they have D1 kids in more than one sport. Like Miller, some are choosing football because they can play Power 5 in that sport vs Mid major in hoops (although Drelon could be power 5 in either possibly). How many D1 basketball kids has Orangefield ever had? Not many. You are correct though about them being football heavy. One of the things I love about the really good teams in lower divisions. Get to see true athletes who are great in multiple sports.
  14. They just have way too much firepower. One of their kids I know well is junior Elijah Sherwood. Really good kid. You could argue he’s the third best player on that team. He would also probably be the best wing in the history of Orangefield basketball. We would need to shoot the ball as well as we possibly could shoot it even be in the game. Still a great season for the Bobcats, record setting season in wins and record tying season in playoff wins. Future is very bright.
  15. You definitely would like to see them trending upwards. Hasn’t happened so far. But winning is the name of the game.
  16. They are a whole ‘nother level. Almost all of our kids would struggle to get minutes on that team. They have a few kids that can play D1.
  17. It is remarkable to me how many D1 guards are unable to execute a pick and roll or even a simple entry pass. When Shumate was out the majority of the game with foul trouble, the Cards struggled to capitalize getting Hamilton touches. He is easily (imo) their best offensive option, primarily because of his size and the efficiency with which he scores the basketball. But there are only a few Lamar players who are able to make the entry pass consistently, and most are other bigs (this does not involve mine who was out with the flu these past two games). But this is far from just a Lamar problem. Shahada Wells, who most rate as the top guard in the league, does a pretty poor job at executing the high pick and roll. In a game where he only played 17 minutes, Shumate was WIDE OPEN at least 3 times on rolls after he set a very good screen, and got zero touches out of them (all 3 would have been easy dunks). I can only imagine he’s probably 10 ppg under where he would be if they could or would properly run that play. And in my mind, he’s the best player in the conference by a good bit.
  18. I’m all for it. I will even make an exception to my “never, ever wear maroon” rule.
  19. Agreed. Marshall was lucky to escape that nail-biter.
  20. Looking forward to your review. I’ve only seen videos. From those though, looks like it might be the new gold standard for the Triangle area.
  21. That makes a lot of sense. Knew it had to be something screwy at that stage of the game. I do not miss having to watch high school officiating.
  22. I wanna know if anyone knows Greg Powell from Shelbyville (the current ppg record holder for a season)? 45 ppg in the 60s.
  23. It sounds like most didn’t lol - I still find it pretty cool though! (Almost as much as the district going 4-0 in the bi-district round.)
  24. Absolutely. Great job Bucs! Who says East Chambers is a swimming school?!
  25. They also took the other team’s best shot. Caldwell, who is the second best player in the league (imo) behind McNeese’s Shumate, went for 30 and 12 tonight. 30 is his career high and the 12 boards were one shy of his career high. The next two home games will tell a lot because McNeese and CC A&M are the toughest two opponents in the league.
