  1. Back to the Titans, great article in the by IC Murrell in the PA News about this special senior class: [Hidden Content]
  2. This is year 4. Year 5 was going to be McCain and Adams senior year. They were in the 8th grade that first year and it was pointed out to me it is impossible to tell how good kids are going to be in Jr High. Maybe but I think that prediction has proven accurate as well.
  3. Same here on the patience because I know what he’s eventually going to bring. We have a chance to move to a blue blood basketball program with a coach of his ilk. But I really think unless there is a huge surprise this year and next year isn’t any better, they’re moving on.
  4. Oh dang hadn’t heard that. No clue. I definitely retract that statement if he’s not. Kid can go. Played his Urban DFW Elite team three times last summer. He and Miller Kopp had some epic battles.
  5. Speaking of predictions, I still have one game to give (and one season left) on my ridiculed prediction that Silsbee would lose 3 or less district games in 5 years. That’s with the infamous “forfeit” game last year.
  6. [Hidden Content] Congrats to Nederland’s Hayden Hefner (#12), Memorial’s Nate Clover (#21), and Silsbee’s Braelon Bush (#33) on Rival’s newly released state rankings. Two things: 1) Was Rival’s privy to Hayden’s performances against the “Big 3”? Surely that was one of the most important factors from a recruiting service as prestigious as them. 2) Where in the world did these three play summer ball?
  7. Please take note of first paragraph fellas.
  8. I like to use players from that school. I agree Von - aggy and ugly girl are two peas in a pod: [Hidden Content]
  9. Shaka is a good coach. He is a good modern era coach who obviously was a star in the coaching profession before he got here, and far exceeded anyone’s dreams at VCU. He got to UT and had players who didn’t fit his “style.” He has recruited well so that’s not an excuse. What he hasn’t done is (as Crush correctly put it), landed shooters that have consistently knocked down the long ball. This year has been rough losing a McD AA to leukemia who was without a doubt our best scorer and one of the top 3 defenders. He landed an elite HS PG in Coleman who has been spectacular at times and very much a freshman at others. I was actually really proud of our guys and the way they played Monday at Phog Allen with Bamba out injured and Davis (our best shooter remaining) out with a toe injury. That was a competitive game with a very short roster. Shaka has another year no doubt. If the team is significantly better next year, he will get bought out and the school will move on. There is a huge arena in the works and they expect a better product. He will have to do better next year without Mo who will be gone to the lottery, and depending on some freshmen again. And that could be it. At VCU, you recruit 4 year players and many don’t see significant minutes for a year or two. At a school like Texas, you are in the hunt for one and done players and have to take them. Trust me that is an adjustment coaching wise that he didn’t experience before he got here. I really like the guy and am rooting on him next year. What I predict is he will either end up being successful here, or he will be successful at his next stop. True coaches can coach and he will get it figured it out somewhere. Here’s hoping it’s in Austin and his luck runs better next year.
  10. Lancaster has been down this year with 13 losses. But after beating Waxahachie, they are definitely peaking at the right time. Midlothian’s Kaden Archie will be the best player at that regional, and I suspect the winner of their game with Prosper (who is also very tough this year) will be the favorite to beat the winner out of Lancaster and Mt. Pleasant. But you’re right, Lancaster is always one to look out for.
  11. Since the other movie thread got some interest, and I was listening to a sports radio program driving back from Beaumont discussing sports movies, I thought it might be fun to have a thread dedicated to your favorite sports movies. I am a basketball guy, so that plays into my tastes but it was evident in making this list that baseball (by far my least favorite of the 3 major sports) easily makes the best movies. Here are my top 15, along with a favorite scene from each.: 15. Bad News Bears - The original of course, just a classic from my youth: 14. Major League (Uecker steals the show): 13. Brian's Song - maybe the first sports movie I ever saw so I'm a bit sentimental here. Still, a great cast and this speech gets me to this day: 12. Tin Cup - I loved this one and this scene was just fantastic to me. This is the first of a few Ron Shelton movies on my list, arguably the most prolific sports film maker, and the first a few Kevin Costner movies, arguably the most prolific sports movie actor: 11. Bull Durham - Another Shelton/Costner classic: 10. White Men Can't Jump - I probably would move this movie up several spots because it's one of the few I have saved on my DVR. Love the dialogue in the movie and love the subject matter obviously. Rated lower because realize cinematically, it's not as good and Rosie Perez's voice is one of the most annoying of all time [Hidden Content] 9. Jerry Maguire - just a great movie overall imo: 8. The Natural - a bit of a schmaltzy movie but I like schmaltzy: 7. Caddyshack - technically a sports movie: 6. Remember the TItans: 5. Rudy - iconic scene from an iconic movie: 4. Rocky - arguably the greatest sports movie of all time (other than my #1) but I like my top 3 better: 3. Field of Dreams - anyone whoever "had a catch" with their father or son should get "hit" by this one: 2. Hoosiers - can't flip past the movie when it's on: 1. Hoop Dreams - easily the best sports movie of all time IMO. 3 hours and I can still watch it and be enthralled the entire time. It doesn't really have that one scene though so here is simply the trailer. If you haven't seen it, I think it's still available on YouTube in it's entirety. Highly, highly recommend it: [Hidden Content]
  12. His autobiography had maybe the greatest title of all time, even if borrowed from a famous hymn, Just As I Am. Seems perfectly fitting. Most today also don't realize the major role he played in the civil rights movement. RIP Rev. Graham. And "well done, good and faithful servant."
  13. Cold hearted bas$#@$#$!
  14. I don’t know what you’re seeing but there’s two angles. I agree he leaves the floor (going backwards not up) when a player runs into him. He didn’t get a shot off, up or otherwise because he chose to pump fake with 1.1 seconds left. Gets a player flying into him with approx .2 seconds left and then falls backwards and loses the ball out of bounds after buzzer. Trying to find a shot in there is just trying to find a shot in there. I would argue that without the time factor, still is an awful call because there was NEVER a shooting motion, prior to or during the foul. Only way the kid goes to the line is if it’s a bonus situation, which it wasn’t.
  15. This I can buy!
  16. He’s never going up. The only shooting motion he makes is on the ball fake. I think you’re right that contact was made with .2 seconds left. He falls backwards and the ball comes out of his hands clearly after the clock reads double zero. Trying to find a shot in there is just...well nvm. I stand by my previous statement.
  17. Smh, I stand corrected. How can we expect refs to get a call right when people still butcher calls with video evidence lol?
  18. No doubt. DJ has battled injuries since he was a young kid. Here’s hoping he finds a healthy career at Oral Roberts.
  19. Might have to get PETA involved to do that...
  20. Meh, you were a lot better at the end of the year than you were at the Evadale tourney By the way, hbd to my favorite referee.
  21. Absolutely. And one of the toughest PGs around. But also proof how hard it is to repeat. Falls had everyone back from last year’s championship team.
  22. Foul maybe. Shooting foul no. Player pump fakes, gets fouled and drops ball. At best, Tompkins gets an inbound from corner with .2. Botched and botched horribly.
  23. I will say neither Yates nor Silsbee has a gimme Friday night. Either isn’t ready and none of us will see the matchup we have been waiting all season to see.
  24. In other news, the other half of the 6A regional finalists from last year, Cy Falls goes down to Sam Houston and Kendric Davis tonight.
