I agree that silsbee needs to shoot it well tomorrow. Or at least not shoot it poorly I should say. Having said that, what you point out in the presses is correct. Yates sells out to try and force turnovers and score off the turnovers. Silsbee primarily runs a full court man, but will jump into a trap if available and will jump passing lanes. Ultimately, there’s is more of a slow you down press which also has the effect of fatiguing its opponents and will obviously cause turnovers. If you’re going to press at this stage in the season (with elite teams left), I generally prefer the latter. Eventually you usually run into some guards who simply know how and are able to handle the press and who end up “punishing the press” in the front court. The key is to do just that - punish it. Here’s to hoping that team this year is the Silsbee Tigers.

Beat Yates! Take care of the ball and attack, attack, attack!

It was nice hearing the voice of Silsbee Tiger Basketball again. I missed Mike behind the mic.

Way to go Titans! I know where I will be tomorrow afternoon now. -
W24 Jack Yates vs W19 Liberty Hill

Half of the slugfest is confirmed. Let’s go Tigers. -
They always have something to say. Sutherland has been known to have a thing or two to say as well. Ray Charles could have seen next year’s run coming last year though.

They are #1

Great season Bucs. I’m not sure the best two teams in the State weren’t playing in this one. The great news is basically the whole team will have another shot next year. And I think they will probably be the favorite.

Not good for Yates or silsbee when refs call it that right. Hopefully silsbee’s Crew will have a “let them play” philosophy. -

Things that make you go hmmmm. I thought both of these games would be more competitive than some were thinking. But we shall see. Both Yates and Silsbee have a knack at wearing your behind down with relentless pressure and pull away in second halves. But opponents this deep also are better at keeping it together. I still think Yates pulls away and wins by double digits. -
I pretty much watch because the wife loves it and it’s become a Sunday night tradition. Time stops at our house during TWD (although I was sick as a dog and slept through this one and had to watch so as not to fall behind on Monday). But it’s never been a show I thought was amazing. The best show on TV now imo is This Is Us. Maybe it’s a father thing but that show moves me every week. Really delves into how parenting effects our children and how although we all are SO imperfect, striving for perfection at the most important job we’ll ever have makes all the difference. Plus, as REBgp and I have discussed, the late, great Jimmy V had it right. We should laugh, we should think, and we should cry every day. As he said, that’s a heckuva day. I invariably have no problem with the first two. When This Is Us is on, I can always check that third box too...

The only thing I don’t know is what Courtney told his kids coming out of timeout. For instance, LCM’s Jeffcoat has a foul to give against Diboll and had his kids use it expertly to leave Diboll only .1 seconds to try to get up a shot down 1 pt. I’m sure if Courtney told them that option he said make sure he’s not shooting. But if a kid gets contacted and then makes an upward motion, it’s not expected they will get a shooting call violation. That could literally happen on every foul (and some kids try it wisely and RARELY get that call). We don’t have continuation fouls obv in HS. That’s what makes the call the most egregious to me. Deciding a game on a call you have to struggle to even make in that situation. Folks have justified it on this thread and I get it. But it’s bush league and horse$&$$ and no ref worth his salt EVER makes that call.

He’s definitely got one more year if he doesn’t win another game this year. At least that’s what I’m told has already been communicated. This year was a big ole cluster you know what from the start and they aren’t going to let it decide his legacy at Texas. But next year has to improve. Kids are still playing their hearts out so let’s see what happens with WVU Saturday and the conference tournament. I will say that the way they’ve fought through adversity tells me as much as the win loss record.

Lousiana HS baseball is so strong there aren’t really many weak teams in the whole state. It is pretty sick.

Especially with Del Conte. Can you imagine the confidence he has in selecting coaches after his time at TCU? Guy was a home run machine.

Back to the Titans, great article in the by IC Murrell in the PA News about this special senior class: [Hidden Content] -
This is year 4. Year 5 was going to be McCain and Adams senior year. They were in the 8th grade that first year and it was pointed out to me it is impossible to tell how good kids are going to be in Jr High. Maybe but I think that prediction has proven accurate as well.

Same here on the patience because I know what he’s eventually going to bring. We have a chance to move to a blue blood basketball program with a coach of his ilk. But I really think unless there is a huge surprise this year and next year isn’t any better, they’re moving on.

Oh dang hadn’t heard that. No clue. I definitely retract that statement if he’s not. Kid can go. Played his Urban DFW Elite team three times last summer. He and Miller Kopp had some epic battles. -
Speaking of predictions, I still have one game to give (and one season left) on my ridiculed prediction that Silsbee would lose 3 or less district games in 5 years. That’s with the infamous “forfeit” game last year.

[Hidden Content] Congrats to Nederland’s Hayden Hefner (#12), Memorial’s Nate Clover (#21), and Silsbee’s Braelon Bush (#33) on Rival’s newly released state rankings. Two things: 1) Was Rival’s privy to Hayden’s performances against the “Big 3”? Surely that was one of the most important factors from a recruiting service as prestigious as them. 2) Where in the world did these three play summer ball?

Please take note of first paragraph fellas.

I like to use players from that school. I agree Von - aggy and ugly girl are two peas in a pod: [Hidden Content]

Shaka is a good coach. He is a good modern era coach who obviously was a star in the coaching profession before he got here, and far exceeded anyone’s dreams at VCU. He got to UT and had players who didn’t fit his “style.” He has recruited well so that’s not an excuse. What he hasn’t done is (as Crush correctly put it), landed shooters that have consistently knocked down the long ball. This year has been rough losing a McD AA to leukemia who was without a doubt our best scorer and one of the top 3 defenders. He landed an elite HS PG in Coleman who has been spectacular at times and very much a freshman at others. I was actually really proud of our guys and the way they played Monday at Phog Allen with Bamba out injured and Davis (our best shooter remaining) out with a toe injury. That was a competitive game with a very short roster. Shaka has another year no doubt. If the team is significantly better next year, he will get bought out and the school will move on. There is a huge arena in the works and they expect a better product. He will have to do better next year without Mo who will be gone to the lottery, and depending on some freshmen again. And that could be it. At VCU, you recruit 4 year players and many don’t see significant minutes for a year or two. At a school like Texas, you are in the hunt for one and done players and have to take them. Trust me that is an adjustment coaching wise that he didn’t experience before he got here. I really like the guy and am rooting on him next year. What I predict is he will either end up being successful here, or he will be successful at his next stop. True coaches can coach and he will get it figured it out somewhere. Here’s hoping it’s in Austin and his luck runs better next year.
