What changed with kountze? 1 great player is coming back I get it, but they got abused last year by anybody with any talent/coaching.

They have the most coming back with arguably the best player in the district (I give my buddy from Bellville a hard time but he would be my preseason MVP pick as I’m sure he would be on most people’s cards).  I would guess they would be the consensus pick to win the district.  Which, of course, means TABC will probably have them 3rd or 4th.  But we will see when they play the games.  EC and OF won’t be rolling over.

I think they've participated in several pools and won the majority of them although I believe they've lost to HF once. They got 4 or 5 D1 guys in the skills positions. Upcoming junior WR Kelshaun Johnson placed 2nd in the 100 at the state track meet as a sophomore. I think HF beating Hitchcock in 7 on 7 might be a indication that HF might be better then most people realize this upcoming year

The sophomore that high jumped 6-4 (Sherwood) plays too huh?  They have tons of athletes.

If Bush had taken after his dad in height, we might not need this conversation for Silsbee.

The upcoming freshman will be in the conversation in a few years.

I have a hard time picking anyone but Braelon.  But I also have never seen the older guys (MacArthur, Stallworth, etc) play so I’m definitely not qualified to vote.  Of the guys in the last 15 years, Bush would be my pick but if this year’s team could win it, I might go Harris.  Always was very partial to McCain.  His game against Carter for all the marbles was one for the ages.  But for a similar performance by Bush against Yates, I might even have Devon up top.  But Bush’s career numbers would have to make him my choice from the recent guys.

  4. I saw a recent poll of Texans of their favorite and least favorite states.  Not surprisingly, Texas was overwhelmingly our favorite state.  Equally unsurprisingly, California was the least favorite state.  It did hurt my heart a bit that Oklahoma wasn’t closer as the second least favorite state. (I want to say California got in the high 50s of the vote and land thieves got high teens).

Gonna miss that old man dearly. I had been checking on him since his wife passed in March.

I miss my friend.  More than once I’ve picked up the phone to text him and had to put it back down.  Jimmy was an incredible human being.  I’m happy he’s back with the love of his life though. As you know, he was lost those last couple of months without her.

  6. And by the way @Reagan, I personally know of an event by one of the major sneaker companies that was moved from Chicago to Vegas this summer, and a lot of the discussion revolved around the safety for kids.  I realize this one event may not move the needle for a city the size of the Windy City but makes me wonder what kind of tourism dollars they are losing due to this nonsense.  I know several people I’ve talked to, and I’m sure several of you guys, who have told me they won’t go there.  The folks there, especially the “woke” crowd, needs to wake the you-know-what up.

I remember Catt, and he was unbelievable, I am not familiar with the other guy. Were they All-State players as well?

I don’t believe so - Catt for sure was not.  All 3 mentioned from OF were really good ones. I’m biased toward the cousins, Ragusa and Catt, but I’m also very fond of the Farias brothers.  I will say that Chris Ford is a name that is thrown around a lot in the community as one of the best but he was before my time here.  However, someone who grew up competing against Chris and whose opinion I respect told me Ragusa was better.  I gotta go with him because he is very familiar with both and most of us tend to inflate the “good old days” over the present.

Now give us your EC pick!  I’m partial to 3rd but that choice will almost be as tough as Silsbee and Kountze.

What are some bold predictions for next season? I’ll start with Kountze won’t lose a single district game and go 3 rounds deep in the playoffs.

Bold but not ridiculous.  Sweeping a Sutherland coached team rarely happens so that would be as tough or tougher than winning two playoff games.  But I wouldn’t be shocked if your prediction rings true.

WOS welcomes any and all students looking to get a quality education. Perhaps you've seen the commercials on TV about our career center teaching welding. Or the in-house beauty salon that allows students to learn the essential art of cosmetology. But nobody is running to jump on a sinking ship. We have to get back to our winning ways before getting future athletic transfers.

WOS is also an open district without tuition fees. So buying rental property in Orange area would be a bonus in today's OC. But not a requirement. The other one that I knew of 2 or 3 years ago, which was not public, didn't bother because of the coming regime change. Some of us knew way before CT's last game vs China Spring.

Long story short... it didn't happen then, I doubt it will now. I could be wrong, it has happened once before. 🧢

Good time to buy real estate in Orange for sure.

Justin Harper? He was a great ball player and always put forth 100% effort… But as far as with the best to ever play for Kountze I’m just not sure he is in that conversation… just my opinion though.

Yeah wasn’t sure either.  Loved his game though.
