  1. Vanderbilt's line for the Alvin game - 43 pts, 17 rebs, 7 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks. Again, the hardest I've ever seen him play.
  2. LCM ranked above Nederland when Nederland beat LCM at the Bear Cave. Makes sense...
  3. That would have been Westbury Christian who would likely beat any other team in this area and has 3 kids on that team that are very highly ranked including the top area 2019 kid according to some. That team beat them the game before and would probably play them close every time apparently. So really it's just the Central game if you actually know the teams. And to offset that one, you have two hugely impressive outings with Houston Christian and Wagner...
  4. Just curious what you base it off of? Only beating Central by a small margin? Or losing by 4 to the top ranked school in the state? Or dropping a hundo in a 20 pt win against the second ranked private school in the state? Keep in mind, ALL of those games were on the road as well. I'll take your word about not being bitter but at best, you are being a bit shortsighted and taking an extremely small sample size.
  5. Ageed on his playmaking. His vision and passing are amazing for a kid his size. If he wants to be one and done, he will be and he will be a first rounder. You just don't see many 6-9s who can facilitate the way he can.
  6. Was arguing this yesterday. I had to concede that JV is one of those kids that's almost a lock to play in the NBA and will likely be a one and done. He can go to school anywhere he wants and is supremely gifted in size and skill. So in that respect, I understand why he's the "higher prospect." But I've seen him play many, many times and the game against Alvin is probably the hardest I've ever seen him play. He plays half-a&@ more often than not. My point yesterday was although JV is taller and so talented, give me Flagg with his size, gifts, and talent. Because he plays his tail off every time he takes the court.
  7. Man you said a mouthful. I saw a lot of basketball in several different venues the last 3 days. One of the biggest recurring themes is noticed is exactly what you said. So many players have no idea what their role is. And the teams where the kids know what their role is and stick to it are ALWAYS the most impressive.
  8. Meh, Silsbee can't really complain about the FB set up. As deep as you are, playing two games in that proximity isn't that big of a deal. They have a pretty weak pool for this tournament and wouldn't face Marshall until the semis or Bush until the finals. Silsbee would likely play Travis first in bracket play. Silsbee has no answer for their size but I would pick them to win. As some have said, size alone won't beat Silsbee and I wasn't impressed at all with Travis' backcourt. Marshall in the semis would be a taller order IMO. Silsbee will have their hands full and running over but I really hope they can beat them. Bush in the finals vs Silsbee is the game I want to see. Bush is one of the teams they could face that actually has superior guard play. I'm not saying the Bush kids are more talented but they are supremely talented and are more "heady" on the court. They are a year ahead in school (juniors vs sophomores) so that's to be somewhat expected. Mostly, I think this will be a great test for Silsbee to prepare for some teams they may not face until SA.
  9. Did not know that! That is awesome! That may have actually been a blessing. They certainly played 32 minutes with a chip on their shoulder! That was a great, great win.
  10. I was thinking the same thing, td (about expectations and not appreciating the journey). It really is amazing when the kids win a regional final by 6+ TDs and many of us (including myself) think, "well that's to be expected." It is a testament to those kids and their coaching staff and the long hard hours they have put in for years. I also wanted to give a shout out to KOGT and especially Gary and John for their support and coverage of the Mustangs. For many of us who have kids at other schools, and are playing their own games on Friday nights, it is great for us to be able to keep up with the Mustangs and get to hear the action wherever we might be. It cracks me up when I've read critical comments about them on this site. For my money Gary is the Craig Way of HS sports broadcasting (I.e., far and away the best!) and Kimbrough is the best color guy he's had in the 20 years I've been tuning in. Go take that next step Stangs in Houston on Friday!
  11. I will. Mr. Vanderbilt. I wonder if that would have happened if Rodney had stayed to coach that game. I guess Mr. V still ultimately calls the shots but I don't think that would have been McCray's inclination.
  12. He doesn't play all of them. He's a combo guard for Alvin. That is to say, like Vanderbilt for VPrep, they get him the ball wherever they can, whether it's in the backcourt or up top or on the wing. They always start him on the perimeter. At the next level, he will almost assuredly be a 3 (SF) based on size and skill set. The only real hole in his game is consistency on the outside shot. He gets to the rim with ease (more so at the HS level where the 6-10 pluses are few and far between) in no small part due to how strong he is with the ball and the exceptional use of his body. He is also an effective passer.
  13. Idk. They did just beat VPrep and the top ranked kid playing in the state
  14. That was a strong effort against as good a guard as you will see all year and a couple of really solid big men as well. Not the least bit surprised either. Those Panthers will keep working and getting better for sure.
  15. It was pretty brutal last night too. I was happy because I was rooting for Central but objectively it was extremely one sided.
  16. OF finishes the tournament 2-2. Alex Catt represents the Bobcats on the all tournament team. Keep working and getting better boys...
  17. Great kid too from a great family. Those Ags are getting a gem with that one.
