In our District, the surprising team has got to be West Brook.  They are currently tied for second.  They battled BU for 3 quarters. Sure they had a slip up against Atascocita, but before the year started, I expected them to barely climbing in 4th.

Disappointing team has got to be Summer Creek.  They came into district ranked in the top 25 in the state and realistically was expected to cover one of the top two spots.  Then they were upset by King and was beaten by WB and now their BARELY clinging to the 4th spot in district.  Then they have a very good coach.  This team is definitely falling short of expectations.

Agree on both counts.  However, I always feel a little silly when I get surprised about a Coach Boutte team playing well and above expectations.  You know?

The Sells kid is damn good if those are the posts you are referring to. His size is the only thing going against him really

Yes he is.  He’s a very good sophomore. And if it’s hyperbole, I get it.  But people are getting a little overhyped after a win over a Buna team that struggled with Kirbyville last game.  And he wasn’t even the best player in the gym when Kountze got donkey punched earlier this week.

Touchy fouls always annoy me. I hate having to listen to the fans on the other side of the gym screaming that Silsbee is playing dirty, then sarcastically cheer when they finally get a call.

Same and most Silsbee games I’ve been to, I’ve rooted for the other team (because it was one of my kids or another Orange County team they were playing).  “Get him off of him!” is the one I hear over and over that is like nails on a chalkboard for me. “Umm, he’s playing good defense ma’am” (or sir!).

However, I’ve always rooted for Silsbee when I’ve seen them play in Houston, or out of this area.  The irony is that on those occasions, it seemed far less fouls were called on Silsbee yet I heard far less whining from the fans of Silsbee’s opponents.

You can go to any HS Varsity football game and you'll hear people howling at the refs on practically any play that has a bad outcome for the team in whose bleachers you're sitting.  As you can only imagine, the other side howls every time that something doesn't go like it "should" for their team.  The refs are getting an earful from one side or the other on practically every play.  I've seen the crew send coaches up into our stands to tell parents to tone it down or they were going to be ejected for yelling over and over and over.  I've seen our kids get bad calls (or no calls) in baseball games and I'm confident that it has a whole lot to do with "Dads" like yourself who know it all... and don't mind giving the ref and earful.... because it's their job, right?

Every time someone has suggested that you, sir, should give reffing a try... you crawfish like the do-nothing, know-it-all that I'm sure that you are.  It's all fun and games to scream at a ref, but knowing deep down in your heart you don't have the stones to do that job.... All you can do is complain.

That goes from basketball too and it annoys the heck out of me.  Some schools are the worst.

i will say that for a while (and I don’t know if he still does), a particular Hs Coach was using an out of area chapter and those honestly were some of the best officiated games I’ve seen.  However, they were also the most annoying because people were screaming for fouls (in the opponent’s fans’ section of which I was a part) on every single possession.  In reality they were just witnessing great defense and the officials weren’t calling every touch (as they shouldn’t).  While I do believe a great number of the officials in our area are admittedly subpar, many of the fans are worse to the point it makes it cringy to sit and watch a game.

The 8-10 games I've seen that were officiated by chapters outside of setx were called light years better than any game I have seen in setx this season.

That’s my issue.  Why is it so bad in our area?  Even the ones that are supposed to be the best veteran officials are mediocre at best.  I don’t expect them to be college officials that I am used to seeing.  But I don’t see why they are so much worse than almost every other HS region I’ve seen.  I understand Houston has more people to pull from but they also have more games to cover.  And I don’t expect them to be perfect.  I doubt there has ever been a perfectly called game in the history of basketball.  But at least be competent and know the rules.

They are a good team. But from what I have seen when I watch they have 2 kids that can score by creating. Pete who is probably best player in district and ghost. If you want to do things that bobcats haven’t done before you guys will need him imo. The team is very solid. Great team but not a lot of creators on that team. Lots of solid role players. If there’s any chance of this team moving forward I think they should focus on how to get him involved. I could be completely wrong and you probably have watched more games than me.

Couldn’t  agree more. Kid was two assists shy of a triple double last night.  Triple doubles are rarer at the HS level than Bigfoot sightings.

There was once a time when an officiating crew would walk into a gym and everyone would know those guys were going to do a great job that night. Those days are getting farther and farther apart. Still some of those guys left, but they’re spread thin. I feel like we get much more knowledgeable officials when we have games in places that use other chapters. Is it too much to ask to have these guys trained properly? I’ve seen technical fouls called on kids for leaving the bench after a time out was called, intentional fouls called on kids when they’re trying to foul at the end of a ballgame. (Nothing forceful either) Those are just a couple of examples. This goes for both sides in most games I’ve seen this season, and I’ve seen quite a few.

I don’t know why they are so bad in SETX but they just are.  Not all, obviously.  But the overall product is embarrassing.  When I am in other venues (which is a lot) and hear complaining about the officiating, I always say, you should go watch a game in SETX.  And worse, one of our 2 chapters is way worse than the other and the other may be the second to the worst I’ve seen (overall).

On the other hand, last week I watched a D1 crew blow a 3 pt call (calling a shot a 3 when the shooter was 2 to 3 feet inside the 3 pt line), in a game that ultimately went to OT and the team that would have won lost.  All 3 collegiate officials missed that call.  So it may not just be on the HS level.  The problem is, it’s a job not many people would want.

  8. In the last 18 months, we lost both Norm MacDonald and Barbara Walters.  Most in the world would probably consider Walters the bigger loss.  Give me Norm.  Here’s an appearance on The View from over 20 years ago where he almost makes Walters and a couple of her cohorts lose their mind.  It’s vintage Norm and they only let him stay on air for less than 7 minutes. If you like funny (and trolling liberals - no, not any of you!), please watch and enjoy.  Happy Saturday.

He’s an energy guy off the bench, but needs to make more 3’s.  He’s only 25% on the season from 3.  If he can get that higher, he will get more minutes.   He was never a pure shooter in HS that some expected when they see him….

He’s now making about 1 out of 3 (has only shot about 30 this year) which is the equivalent of shooting 50 percent from 2.  Not elite but it’s definitely “green light” numbers.  I agree with you about his energy off the bench and the kid seems to make big plays.  And in terms of last year’s team, I liked his game more than some of what was run out there.  Admittedly, I haven’t watched anything more than highlights of Aggie basketball this year.

Solid win for the Ags.  Hef went off

So happy for Hayden.  He seems to produce when given opportunities.  He finishes 3-3 from the field, all 3s. I never understand those box scores.  If I have a kid who has taken 3 3s and made them all, I’m going to find ways to get him shots until he shows me he’s no longer hitting them.

Great night for the Houston Defenders.  Jabari Rice (who used to have his way with them when they were freshmen) made some huge plays down the stretch to lead the Horns to a big win over Hefner’s longtime summer teammate Eddie Lampkin and TCU.

Here's the deal... Gallery runs promotions that say "If the Astros win the World Series, your furniture is free!"  They sell a bunch of furniture and since the odds of winning are such a long shot, Mac only needs to put up a portion of his actual sales.  If his bet wins, he uses the winnings to make up the funds lost by refunding people for their furniture.  If he loses, he's still up because so the promotion brought in so much in extra sales, and he's only putting a portion of those sales into his wagers... He's taking a small haircut on a loss, but it's not bad at all, apparently.  And he has national news giving him tons of free advertising.

    Yes.  It really is genius
