Man I am way out of touch with East Texas. When did Jacksonville drop to 4A? (Please don’t tell me 10 years ago.) -
If he gets to elite 8 or better they may have to. And I really like Rodney. Would you rather have him than Oates or Musselman though?

Probably both. Silsbee should be favored against both too. -

My thoughts too. Why would I pressure the ball when I have a 2-3 possession lead and I’m essentially being given an opportunity to rest my players and shorten the game? I might have questioned Jeffcoat if he HAD pressured the ball in that instant. Good win for the Bears though. Seems like they are getting stuff figured out and may be separating themselves from the rest of the field. -

Very true on voir dire. But that should have eliminated the shock of the punishment range. I have the same understanding on the state’s ability to appeal. But I have also never seen a verdict outside of punishment range other than one case where the fine exceeded the punishment range (read the case once) and the CoA remanded for the fine portion only (and that was obviously the Defendant appealing). No idea if the state has same restriction for an illegal verdict. My guess is they are going to go with it or the state would have asked for a new trial. Again, probably the right result all the way around (in my largely uninformed opinion anyway). -
Has arguably been the best hoops conference for a while now. Don’t think it’s even going to be an argument adding U of H and BYU (and sounds like Gonzaga sooner rather than later). Those three will more than make up for loss of UT and OU. And Lunadi has 8 of the 10 teams in right now.

I think you are both correct about matchups, but shooting has also certainly played a large factor. Certainly seems to be some matchup issues with the different teams. We might see it play out some this week OF has Anahuac and Kountze on the road. I think the Bobcats guards gave Anahuac issues in the first half and OF does have some size. I do think the Kountze game could play out much differently if they can hit the proverbial broad side of the barn this time around. On paper that one should be much closer than it was at least. -

Funny to chirp about stats and then get offended about the worst kept secret in SETX. Tigee ruffled a lot of feathers because some of the Jefferson County boys stopped and went to school at HF before they got deeper into Chambers County. But 900 is a heckuva accomplishment for sure and Sutherland is a hall of fame coach with or without the Beaumont kids. And speaking of stats, looked like most of Winnie had that one on t shirts after game. And don’t mistake that as begrudgingly. Aren’t many guys in the country who have hit that number. And I’m not sure how old Todd is exactly but he looks great. I would think that speedometer could flip a few more times before it’s all said and done. Good luck to the Bucs in the playoffs. Barring a really deep run for BOTH teams, should be pulling for the guys in green every round too. -

I would have thought they would have been voir dired on the range of punishment though. As you know, you can do that without discussing the priors. But maybe they decided not to for that reason. In any event, seems like an automatic remand on punishment. But maybe the DA’s office lets it go and they go with the 10 years. Honestly from what I’ve read re: the facts of the case (I know that’s a dangerous way to base opinions), 10 years might be a just sentence in this case. 25 to life seems a bit harsh for recklessness but I also realize the point of having the habitual statute and sounds like the guy was well past felony number 3. -

On any given night. Throw Buna in there too. Basketball on all levels often boils down to whether you make shots or not. Obviously defense has something to do with it too but with some of these teams, that’s the big variable. At this point, it certainly appears EC is the most consistent team. Fortunately for them, that’s been a trademark of theirs for many years. I wonder what the constant is there? -

What was up with that verdict? Any idea on how it will be handled? For those unaware, the Defendant was facing a minimum of 25 years and a maximum of life in prison due to 2 or more prior felony convictions (aka habitual offender). Jury sentenced him to 10 years (well below the minimum of the range they were given). -

Won’t win games that ice cold. 25% would have tied game. -
They beat EC but get blown out by Anahuac and Orangefield. Inconsistency is no surprise with super young teams like the Lions. As is customary, I’m sure that will improve as they gain experience. Good news is the ceiling appears pretty high.

Mitchell would have “Red Rovered” the heck out of that lead. You would have seen a whole different version of the “picket fence” that whole 4th quarter. Watch the Mustangs give Silsbee their biggest challenge in the 2nd half of district though (which could be simply less than 30 but still). -
Kountze 67 East Chambers 64/FINAL
TxHoops replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
When shots are falling Kountze can beat anyone. When they aren’t, they will struggle (a la OF). I’ve thought EC was the second best team in the district all year but they got a comfortable win in Winnie. We will see how it goes Friday. But there isn’t a great margin between any of the top 5 teams in that district (adding Anahuac and Buna). Any can beat the other (even comfortably) on any given night. -
I was thinking the same thing. I don’t remember wanting to go to a JV game where I didn’t have a rooting interest. I’m really tempted to go catch a Silsbee JV game. That group is about as dominant as it gets.

Ben Elliott with 23 & 10 to go over 2000 career points and become LCM’s all time leading scorer (passing Jason Throop). He’s certainly the best LCM player (in my opinion) since Throop. -
