Everyone knows I'm a huge Foster fan but you can't just label Clay as someone who took over a great program. First, he was a part of that program for several years and was widely considered one of the best assistants in this area. Second, the only reason he was an assistant those years was because he wanted to be home. He did a very good job at Jasper and Tatum as a head coach, and those are part of his resume'. He's definitely one of the top coaches in this area IMO. That's why I didn't make a list. No way I could limit it to 5. -

there was a halftime score posted with Nederlamd JV ahead I think. I originally thought the same thing. -
7-3 for the Big 12. About what I expected. I did think WVU would beat the Gators but thought either TCU or K St. would lose. Top basketball conference doing what it does...

This may be the first time "one of the schools in the country" and any institution in Mississippi have been mentioned in the same sentence. I would say except in Mississippi but they don't string together sentences there too well... -

In all fairness, Kelly has been doing a pretty good job of zapping the Port Arthur talent pool lately... -
He's been the difference in this run. (Well, that and Shaka is a sideline wizard.) Has really stepped it up since Ridley went down. To a surprising extent, at least to me.

By the way, none of the 3 posters you mentioned are affiliated with Nederland, other than I guess Dickie V lives there now. But his ties are definitely more to other programs. In fact, I was trying to think if I've ever been to a Nederland game where I wasn't there rooting for the other team or a particular player they were up against. At best, I might have been a passive observer who had no rooting interest. I don't hate or dislike Nederland, but I'm definitely not what you consider a fan. Point being that you don't have to be a "Bulldog Fan" to appreciate the job English does with the kids. -
Settling the "greatest SE Texas coach" debate
TxHoops replied to Dick Vitale's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Man, I would have a very hard time limiting it to 3. I listed several in the other thread. I would love for you to see Kevin Foster's Big Sandy team play and get your insights. I just love how hard they play and their discipline on the court, both in their execution and attitudes. They play at LCM on Monday night btw - much closer for you to catch than their normal game locations. -
Please, oh please let this end any chance of the Cowboys spending a dime on this kid. Given a choice, I'll take RG3 and a bag of hot Cheetos over this clown any day of the week.

Let's not forget Boutte's mentor, the legendary Coach Gamble. He could coach a little bit as well -

The kid you guys are talking about has a lot of talent and tons of upside as a true PG. But he does need to continue to develop consistency and focus on the court. He has the ability to be the leader of the Bulldogs over the next couple of years. I'm rooting for him. -

No, I can't see a difference Question:. Who was comparing English to Boutte? 3 guesses and if all of them don't include an Ozen fan, you can't read. Once again, English was complimented, an Ozen fan invokes a Boutte comparison that had nothing to do with the original point made. I haven't seen anyone say English is a superior coach to Boutte in this thread. Quite frankly, it's a meaningless debate IMO. To say one thinks Brian is a great coach is not to say Boutte isn't a coaching legend. Understand?? If not, refer to Dickie V's post in the thread he started (nobly I assume to try and keep this one from getting derailed). He clearly "gets it." -

Although you unintentionally made my point for me, I will use another name that ccs invoked in another thread. Cotton Robinson. More titles so he must have been better. You guys just can't help yourselves... -

Outstanding post. I'm out of likes or I would have tried to like it twice. As I've said before, whether it is English, Sutherland, Foster, Saveat, Clay Davis or Sigler (to only name a few), all are outstanding coaches and their schools are lucky to have them. It's the same as when a debate starts on the football side on whose better between Neumann, Cornel T., Dubois, etc. To be honest, I'm not interested in those debates because as far as I'm concerned, those are rich people's problems. Folks should really count their blessings they have are fortunate to have one of them teaching their kids... -

I guess what I don't understand is why a few Ozen fans seem to get their panties in a bunch when English is complimented on the job he's done. This started with a statement I made about how much the Bulldogs have improved this year. If you saw them at the start, and have seen them now (and know anything about the game), you really can't argue this fact. No one was putting down Saveat. In fact, he's been consistently complimented in this thread too. And I know many of you love Boutte (he is routinely brought into these threads especially by one of you), and I have nothing but respect for him. Clearly he was a heck of a coach. But it would be like every time his name is invoked, someone pointed out - "well, he is certainly no Bob Hurley or Morgan Wootten." We have several outstanding coaches in this area and to praise one is not to deride another. Just wondering what the undercurrent is because some certainly seem to have an agenda where Brian is concerned. -

Oh facts? Let's just say English almost always beats the teams he's supposed to beat (did he lose to LCM?) and beats those he shouldn't much of the time. But let's use you guys' logic. Saveat is 0-2 vs a first time head coach so obviously he's not as good as Ozen's rival's new coach, right? And since a very average coach named John Brady led LSU to a Final Four, he must be a better coach than one who has never accomplished that. Like say, a Pete Carril? keep dealing in "facts," sport...
