Settling the "greatest SE Texas coach" debate
TxHoops replied to Dick Vitale's topic in High School Boys Basketball
I don't think anyone was criticizing anyone for being "emotional." But we don't need to rehash that issue. If a big criticism of a coach is he pumps his fist when his team takes a lead, I will take him. -

Settling the "greatest SE Texas coach" debate
TxHoops replied to Dick Vitale's topic in High School Boys Basketball
The first time I saw Davis on the sideline and his team, I knew the guy could coach. On each and every occasion since, my initial impression has been reinforced. I really don't think there's any doubt about it. -
H-F @ H-J: Only varisty game tonight!
TxHoops replied to Lazeek's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Earlier in district play, HF had 14 high school players only, 7 on JV and 7 on varsity. With injuries/grades/etc, sounds like less now. -
He's been a 2nd round projection in many mock drafts for a while now. However, since Ridley's injury, his stock is on the rise. As bulldogbacker correctly noted, every member of an NBA roster is NOT there to score. Ibeh is a long 6'11" with a lot of athleticism. He will be given a shot in the NBA as a rim protector. Not saying he will make it, but you're crazy to think he isn't on a lot of radars.

Nederland @ Central...Thoughts?

FIFY. Oh never mind, thought you were talking about Central for a moment -
Starting next season Silsbee vs HJ
TxHoops replied to Pepper Brooks's topic in High School Boys Basketball
It's a different day and age for HJ. If you look at their respective schedules, it's obvious neither Davis nor Sigler runs from a challenge. In fact, the exact opposite is true. If they can make it work, I don't know why they couldn't play. -

Everyone knows I'm a huge Foster fan but you can't just label Clay as someone who took over a great program. First, he was a part of that program for several years and was widely considered one of the best assistants in this area. Second, the only reason he was an assistant those years was because he wanted to be home. He did a very good job at Jasper and Tatum as a head coach, and those are part of his resume'. He's definitely one of the top coaches in this area IMO. That's why I didn't make a list. No way I could limit it to 5. -

there was a halftime score posted with Nederlamd JV ahead I think. I originally thought the same thing. -
7-3 for the Big 12. About what I expected. I did think WVU would beat the Gators but thought either TCU or K St. would lose. Top basketball conference doing what it does...

Ole Miss Cheating?? You don't say...
TxHoops replied to Whoopi Goldberg's Lips's topic in College Sports Forum
This may be the first time "one of the schools in the country" and any institution in Mississippi have been mentioned in the same sentence. I would say except in Mississippi but they don't string together sentences there too well... -

In all fairness, Kelly has been doing a pretty good job of zapping the Port Arthur talent pool lately... -
He's been the difference in this run. (Well, that and Shaka is a sideline wizard.) Has really stepped it up since Ridley went down. To a surprising extent, at least to me.

Beaumont Ozen 79 Nederland 76/Final
TxHoops replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
By the way, none of the 3 posters you mentioned are affiliated with Nederland, other than I guess Dickie V lives there now. But his ties are definitely more to other programs. In fact, I was trying to think if I've ever been to a Nederland game where I wasn't there rooting for the other team or a particular player they were up against. At best, I might have been a passive observer who had no rooting interest. I don't hate or dislike Nederland, but I'm definitely not what you consider a fan. Point being that you don't have to be a "Bulldog Fan" to appreciate the job English does with the kids. -

Man, I would have a very hard time limiting it to 3. I listed several in the other thread. I would love for you to see Kevin Foster's Big Sandy team play and get your insights. I just love how hard they play and their discipline on the court, both in their execution and attitudes. They play at LCM on Monday night btw - much closer for you to catch than their normal game locations.
