  1. He definitely had an off shooting night (as well as last night from what I was told). But when you play your tail off on the defensive end, set your teammates up, and rebound like you are a half a foot taller than you actually are, you still help your team win. So he does have off nights shooting, but the hustle part of the game I wouldn't think off nights exist for him. I was once again impressed with this group. They play hard, relentless basketball. They play as a group and never get fazed. I could name several names or numbers that shined. But truth is, they pretty much all do. They are a T-E-A-M in every sense of the word and in every facet of the game. It's tough to beat a group like that. (And thanks to BS Wildcats for the hospitality. Worth every bit of the drive.)
  2. I've been in the silent minority (I think) but I've thought this for a while. Scoring aside (which is sometimes misleading), TJ is a dog out there who does so many of the little things that make a difference in winning and losing a game. I am sure Tic and company were licking their chops watching a future piece of their team.
  3. i will make it short and simple. We were right, you were wrong...
  4. Definitely agree. I have talked to a few of them and they love playing for him. And you can tell on the court as well.
  5. But back on topic, my favorite line in basketball is the triple double. There is no greater indicator of a complete player than getting one of these, especially against the likes of a ProVision. Very impressive indeed.
  6. Scott Drew, Mike Leach, Paul Johnson, Hugh Freeze, David Cutcliffe, etc. would beg to differ. None of those so much as played HS varsity in their sports. Exception to the rule, sure. But I would think those guys know more about their sports than 99 percent of those that played. Just saying...
  7. Wait til next year when they get JJ. I was telling AAW tonight that I can almost promise you his best games in college will be against UK. Like all the great ones, the bigger the game, the better he plays. ALMOST without exception.
  8. He looked different without Ulis last game. Was like a Briscoe couldn't get him in position to score. But thought it was better with Tyler. He will get better and better I think. Definitely looks like Simmons is the star of that class though.
  9. Gotcha. Was talking to a friend of mine earlier today that the Cats could lose this one easily without him. He's the one indispensable player at this point IMO.
  10. Good win Panthers! Told y'all not to sweat ProVision. Good practice against some size! Get Harker Heights tomorrow. Predicting another hard fought Ozen win.
  11. By the way, bonus points for you for at least finding the right board. This one time, Dove got stuck in the Fishing forum for almost two weeks...
  12. Updates for Silsbee's game at the South San tournament should go in this thread, I think:
  13. Man, a shot clock would cause someone's head to explode in Little Cypress...
  14. I don't differentiate between early season tournaments and non-district games. You try and get your team as good as they can be going into the "meat" of the season. I am of the camp that the best way to get better is by playing the best competition you can find. There's a reason Sigler at Silsbee and Davis at HJ (for example) put together schedules like they do. Even if Silsbee had lost by 10 or so to Central the other night (as most expected), does that game get them better more than a 83 point beatdown against PNG? I think that's an easy answer. Ozen will be better for having played PV than if they had played SATCH JV. And maybe as important, win or lose today, they probably are going to get in better work than the Jags will running through Sharpstown like a knife through butter. You guys need to visit the cool side of the pillow more often ;)
  15. Personally, I prefer my team draw the toughest possible bracket/pool in tournaments that ultimately mean little to nothing. I have even asked for that. At this stage in the game, it's about getting better and playing a JV team does nothing to accomplish that. So load me up with the toughest teams you got, if I have a competitive team which both the Panthers and the Jags do. But that's just me. Trophies in these type of tournaments aren't a big deal to me. I realize that to some others (including kids), they are.
  16. Basketball is a sport where it just takes the right team getting hot at the right time and the cookie crumbles. We see it every year in March Madness. When it's single elimination, everyone is vulnerable. With Silsbee, you are always eventually going to run into someone who is unfazed by the full court pressure. The key then is how you are able to operate in a half court game. Shooting has been the downfall with past teams when the easy buckets were limited due to a lack of turnovers. Sounds like, at this point, the Tigers are shooting it much better this year.
  17. You would think everyone would just be happy that Silsbee Lite isn't in it to embarrass more folks...
