  1. Do you know anything about Harker Heights, Mamba? I am only asking because I don't know a thing about them other than some scores on MaxPreps against other teams I don't know much about. ProVision I saw last week and wasn't overly impressed with them. They struggled for most of the game against Houston Christian, a team I would consider average at best. NOT saying the bottom of the bracket isn't easier though.
  2. Regarding Central, I talked to a few folks today, none of them Silsbee folks. Some Central, some neutral observers. If what I heard about the turnover line was true (both team and individual stats from Central), it should be alarming to Jag fans. I have noticed in the several occasions when I have seen the Jags live (this year and in the past), they are sometimes hampered by what I would consider the lack of unselfish play. Some stay on the ball too long and try to score it themselves when the better basketball play is to give it up and/or advance the ball. And from what I heard consistently from folks today was that one of the players many seem to think is the best in this area was outplayed up and down the floor by a freshman last night.
  3. Freshman. I don't care who you are playing. That stat line is sick...
  4. I won't argue with AAW about this group because he's seen much more Silsbee basketball than me. But the freshman group is the most talented class, not only at Silsbee, but of any group in SETX. And if you do add Bush next year, you will have a bigger upside in 3 years than this one or next. All you need is some Bulls on the boards because your guards will be as good as this area has seen. This requires normal growth but with the time they spend in the gym, it would be more surprising if they didn't improve at a steady pace.
  5. unfortunately you are absolutely correct. I have seen it happen multiple times too with someone not paying attention or who has no business trying to keep an official book. And you are just as correct in that if it doesn't get fixed immediately and without much confusion, too often the attitude among the officials is - let's just move on.
  6. Make no mistake about it, this is no easy coaching job. Would I rather have 15 players who can really play vs. 1 or 2? Absolutely. But managing a group THIS deep and talented is no easy task. I don't know how exactly you do it. I know, however, that you guys have a great captain of the ship in Joe Sigler. But to think it's an easy job because of the depth of talent isn't always true. I know a LOT of coaches who prefer to NOT be that deep.
  7. Or hell, play Skip Holtz. To burn a redshirt on the last game of the year, in a game that is meaningless to anyone but maybe the coach's job, is pretty unfair to the kid IMO.
  8. UTA was 5-1 going into last night's game with wins, among others, at Ohio State and at Memphis. So yeah, they are a pretty good ball club.
  9. count on the "look at me, look at me" clowns in these threads. Trying to eat steak and they've barely been able to digest their Gerbers...
  10. I don't know about turning challenges down. I do know Sigler has asked on more than one occasion over the past few years and has been told "no thank you" every time. Interpret that how it you want.
  11. very good outing for the Eagles. How did the sophomore play? That kid has been impressive every time I've watched him.
  12. Dang, I feel like I was just called short by Peter Dinklage...
  13. A) I know for a fact (unlike the "fact" Silsbee has never beat Ozen), that Sigler has asked to play Ozen more than once over the past few years and has been declined. B ) Why would Silsbee play in a tournament that is so horrible now that a JV team is playing in it? The YMBL is dying on the vine and the Tigers get more, better quality games playing in San Antonio. I am sure getting his team better is more important than scheduling a tournament in hopes of playing one team. Besides, I am sure Uncle Rodney would have them as far away as possible in the bracket...
  14. No, you must be mistaken. OF never pulls a "fact" out of his behind. Never.
  15. I ain't saying he's a chicken but those tail feathers are a-shaking...
  16. Tough to lose to them when your coach knows better than to play them...
  17. That's who I thought it might be. Landyn Crowder. Gutsy, tough little guy. Just think, Braelon Bush was also in this class but is now an 8th grader at Legacy. That kid is amazing as well.
  18. IMHO, Devon is the most talented PG in the area. As a freshman. Before you guys blow this up, I didn't say best...yet. His upside is tremendous. And Jordyn might be the best shooter on this team. So you may be on to something. In the end, whether there is someone in front of them or behind them, they will play. Once again, the trick will be managing minutes for a bunch of kids that can play, as opposed to playing kids just to get them minutes. #richfolkproblems
  19. I've been saying Silsbee was plenty good without the football boys. The ones they have now are just as good. However, when they were down to 5 players in OT, not hard to see where the depth is going to help immensely. May have some more joining the voting Silsbee #1 in the Dirty Dozen next week. This team is for real.
  20. Not sure what will happen. These Aggies are all post Big 12. They're too young to know Tech owns them.
  21. And playing as good or better than anyone right now...
