I would agree with you, PM. You are mostly reasonable in your assessments. I have no idea how old you are, but I have found that younger fans/former students to be like you. There is not quite the blind hatred that makes a lot of the older Ags unable to be objective. I enjoy your contributions on this board.

A blip on the radar. They are better now. But that, as history has told us, will not last. Ultimately, it is too much to overcome what most think is the premier school in this State as well as what each school has to offer kids. Like it or not, for about 80 percent of the time or more, A&M will always be little brother. If you can't accept that, you have been living in denial for a long, long time ;)

Vince didn't win the Heisman, but he should have. To this day, the best college player I ever saw suit up. Simply refused to lose. But an excellent example of not knowing if someone will be successful. And you're right, at least with a lot of Ags I know. They rooted for his failure. But two wrongs don't make a right. Hope JFF is a great success.

^ I'm with you AR! Once they enter the NFL, root for them all. Hope Tannehill continues to progress too. And for the record, it's not just so we can see shots of his extremely hot wife in the stands!

Cowboys first round pick.
TxHoops replied to king's topic in Professional Sports- NFL, NBA, MLB, Etc
Would love that pick of Nix, king. Which is probably why that is exactly they will NOT draft! Lol -
OU shot the lights out. Ridley was dominant inside for the Horns but they shot very poorly from the 3, and OU was on fire. That was the difference in this one.

You are unique OldTimer! Most of my Aggie buddies HATE Tech. FYI, Tech is my second favorite team, and my wife is a Lumberjack. So my order is just about the same as yours, with an obvious substitution at the top ;)

Man, I can't figure this one out. I really can't. I can't say for certainty that he will be a bust, that he will be productive, or that he will be a star. Could be any of the three. I agree with Bullets13 that he did get bailed out a lot having maybe the best WR in CFB bringing in a lot of "jump balls." At the same time, the kid can make all, or almost all, of the throws you need on Sundays. Injuries scare me a bit with his style if he can't adapt to protecting himself more. But patience and making better decisions can be taught and learned in the league - and despite some of the things he's done and said, I don't think the kid is dumb. Again, I can't make up my mind on him and I doubt anyone knows for sure. I just don't think you accurately say he will be a bust anymore than you can say he will be a Pro Bowler. He's one you have to wait and see with. It's a nightmare for a GM though; pass on him and he's a star, you look terrible...draft him and he's a bust, you look terrible. Personally, despite being a Longhorn and bleeding burnt orange, I wish him all the success in the world. Love him or hate him or indifferent, no one can say he's not VERY fun to watch when he's doing his thing. The NFL will be a better product if he's successful.

If you want to see an amazing middle school track team, catch one of the BISD track meets. PA Lincoln hasn't lost a meet in middle school and won't this year. Never seen a team at that level literally win just about every event. And the numbers they post are mind boggling at that age level.

Careful here. I could argue a lot more "free thinkers" are more liberal than conservative. Go to this country's most elite institutions of higher learning and what do you find? More democrats than republicans. Conversely, I saw an article/poll some years ago regarding global warming. When those who believed it to be a hoax were asked where they got their information, the majority response was Rush Limbaugh. My point being there are plenty of sheep on both sides of the fence.

+1. There is a reason he is almost unanimously being called the best player in this draft. Talent-wise, he is off the charts. Only flaw is the "head" issues. But there are the same concerns with Manziel obviously. This is just a bad year to have the top pick potentially. Any of the ones mentioned have "bust potential." This is the year to have a need at WR and be picking a little further down. To me, the two guys that are going to absolutely be quality Sunday players are Evans from A&M and Watkins from Clemson. Both will be extremely productive at a minimum IMO. And either or both could be perennial Pro Bowlers.

Whether Manziel or Bridgewater run a 4.5 or a 4.8 isn't that big a deal from the QB position. Manziel's elusiveness and playmaking abilities are his greatest assets. His greatest weakness is his size. Whether he translates to the NFL remains to be seen. There is not a QB in this draft though that is a lock (as with most drafts not containing John Elway or Andrew Luck).

Or any number of other racial epithets for Hispanics? Or uses a gay slur toward Michael Sam? That's why this is a questionable rule at best. Typical overreaction. If someone makes an offensive, derrogatory mark toward another player, fine their pants off.
-
This rule is a landmine waiting to explode. If you take what I assume to be the "spirit" of the rule, you wouldn't flag African American players for using the word. I don't think anyone should be using it, but clearly they aren't using it in a derogatory or hurtful manner. Why not just announce if you are caught on audio using it to degrade or demean another player, a hefty fine will be levied? No need to change outcomes of games or leave this open to a split second official's decision.

Texans First-Round Draft Pick
TxHoops replied to eagleswoodville#1's topic in Professional Sports- NFL, NBA, MLB, Etc
The Jerry Rice of QBs? -
Carr made some money with that run. As for Bridgewater, no need to run. If he's not going to run a faster time than Manziel (which he wouldn't), there is no reason to give Manziel another chip in the race for which of the two is the first QB drafted.
-
He is going to make someone a very productive at worst, all world at best receiver. He is as close to a can't miss first round pick as it gets.

If they wanted to give a HS coach a chance, Todd Sutherland or Brian English should be the choice.

Serious question: Will African American players be allowed to use it? Look, I am opposed to the word period. My kids have never used it (around me anyway) and know it is more taboo than using the F word in my house. However, I have noticed it is very prevalent around the kids of color that I am around. They do use the variety that ends with -a, but use that frequently when talking to each other or about others. I am curious if the NFL will make a distinction.

Texans First-Round Draft Pick
TxHoops replied to eagleswoodville#1's topic in Professional Sports- NFL, NBA, MLB, Etc
To me, as crazy as this sounds, this is almost the "safe pick." Similar to when they took Earl (not that I think Manziel will be a HoF'er), Manziel would be a "popular" pick. And if you pass on him, and he ends up setting the league on fire, you will look awfully bad. I still think trading down is the way to go, if they can, but if they keep, I won't be surprised if they take him. I just hope whatever they do, it works out. I am a lifelong Cowboy fan but I really, REALLY like Rick Smith. I want him to have a long and successful career with the Texans. -
Meh, he will offer the ones who are deserving. And winning cures all. Don't worry...you guys will be back to taking our culls before the incoming freshman class graduates ;)

"This isn't going to end well for Chuck and the Stronghorns." Idk. If it comes down to Austin vs. Collie Station, we win every time. I always thought they should show those 100 boys a good time in Austin one night, and then bus them down to Bryan/CS the next. Let them compare apples and dog turds, so to speak.
