Sweep completed. Nice job Cats! -
That was terrible. Sorry. Not basketball in any sense of the word. And I agree with AAW re shot clocks in HS basketball. I am a huge fan of the shot clock in high level basketball. But we never get Milan, IN (team Hoosiers was based upon) if they had a shot clock. For a multitude of reasons, it’s a bad idea for high schools with the exception of the Grind Session and other national leagues.

Pretty much as you state.

Yes. Lewis is a junior and McDermott a sophomore.

^ And this.

Cornel Thompson doesn’t coach basketball. You would think some of it would carry over. And maybe it does. But with the exception of an outlier year hear and there, the WOS football excellence has not translated to the hardwood. And I’m not being critical of any of the coaches. They have had some good ones over the year. But when you have 40 years or so of a sport being coached by hall of famers (Hooks and Thompson), it would be hard to match that in any of the other sports.
-
Two kids 6-6 or 6-7 would qualify as quite unusually tall, especially at the 4A level. And I would wager WOS is upper echelon athletically, again at the 4A level. In fact, this is as close as Silsbee will get to simulating the Booker T length (which judging from the first matchup against the Stangs is a little concerning). Only imagine if the 6-7 and 6-8 kids are as at LEAST as skilled as Silsbee’s best two players. Hopefully depth will be key.
-
Agreed. They are probably going to be the 4th place team but easily the “toughest” matchup for Silsbee (tough being relative, agree could easily have a 20+ point margin of victory). They are honestly the only team that has the athleticism to “hoop” with Silsbee. LCM does to an extent but honestly their athleticism isn’t very deep. I think it’s a testament to the difference in “effort” WOS gives against Silsbee vs other teams. And that’s almost always been the knock on WOS basketball. Athletic but undisciplined. Flashes of being very good but highly inconsistent.

Kountze 40 East Chambers 53/FINAL

When I think of most dominant teams (not best because obviously they weren’t going to beat the Perk Ozen teams or even the BU team this year or last), I think of that group and that ‘91 HJ team that Joub and Davis played on. Both just rolled through teams, every really good ones. I think that Kountze team was a little more dominant in terms of margin of victory in the playoffs though. In fairness, the Hawks played some real powerhouses in the playoffs that year. That Clarksville team they beat in the finals would have won it all most years. -

Now now. It’s okay for SOME schools to accept move ins. Which is the biggest reason many whined so long and loud (and still are) about HF. They really cramped some schools’ styles/recruiting efforts. -

One of the best to ever lace em up in this area. -
Must have had some kind of lineup issue. Normally has played the point most of the year. It’s not his natural position but makes sense with the personnel they have. Took over first place tonight with a pretty convincing win over Seattle. Allen scored 33. Rice with 7 assists and only 1 turnover.

Ashly posted Newton won the game on their website but apparently no one gave him the score. -

Don’t sell them short. They are tremendous slouches… -

Agree with all of that. And wouldn’t hurt to get hot with the 3 ball. I’m not saying they have to be unconscious but they also can’t have an off shooting night either. -

Abel. I found him extremely entertaining. Loud with a sharp sense of humor. -

This is first year Yates hasn’t won its district since the Roosevelt administration… -
Reyes was a late pick up on a team that needed size. He held Illinois, Fresno St offers among others. He is really, really raw but has improved believe it or not. The best two bigs are Catt and Nickerson (by a wide margin). Both have been out a bunch with either injuries or sickness. Catt was back with limited minutes last night and Nickerson is still out with mono. As a result, Brooks has had to rely on Reyes and Carpenter (a walk on) to fill that role. It’s a lot tougher in the WAC to go small with your lineups. They tried at the end of the game last night with McClure and got abused in the paint.

UTRGV was favored.

For what it’s worth, I think Mitchell has done a good job and I think that’s fairly evident, Brock or no Brock. I enjoy his antics where it pertains to the referees because I have felt that pain too many times (and it amuses me). In fact, being entertained by the coach was the only thing that made PNG basketball watchable for years. McDonald nor Jeffcoat have ever appeared to me to be guys who twist off regularly. I would say I’ve seen Clay Davis animated as well. Sure they can get worked up and lose it on occasion as most coaches can. And I can’t recall a time when any of the three has gotten animated where their team didn’t just receive a really bad call. But they aren’t in the same category. And both are really good guys (as Mitchell has been from my limited interaction with him). I have really good friends who vouch for him as well. However, if he was posting on the board as someone else talking about how great he is: that’s more than a little weird. -

Can confirm. Also PG isn’t bad. Both bigs are more wings who are skilled. Both are accustomed to playing bigger, better competition than Silsbee will run out there in summer ball. Question will be whether Silsbee can wear them down with their pressure vs lack of depth. 5 on 5 with no subs, Booker T would be a solid double digit favorite. Lack of depth on their part makes this a lot closer to a pick ‘em. Imo. HJ would struggle with either team. -
They did that twice. Kountze won 2 of 3 and then a couple years later, buna won 2 of 3.
