  1. Four good ones? We counting freshman and JV years? And in one year, he set the career blocks record, rebound record and was as gifted a passer as just about any guard out there. He also is probably a better on ball defender, even vs guards, as any bobcat. Look I know you got caught up in hyperbole but the original statement of the best player since Austin Farias was just craziness (although Austin was more than 10 years ago too). Chris Ford was before then but he’s one of the best. I would have to spend more time than I would care to but off the top of my head, Matt Kress way better. His brother Kaleb as well when his head was screwed on straight. The Wiley’s, especially Carmichael. Wrinkle’s game reminds me somewhat of Wesley Frillou’s who was probably the 3rd or 4th best player on the ‘17 team. I will say he is probably the best cross country runner in the past 10 years though by a good margin. And good kid and nice player on the hardwood as well.
  2. <Insert Michael Jackson eating popcorn gif>
  3. Maybe a good place to start would be the best team (wins, playoff wins) in the history of the school? Might want to start there. I mean, that is if you value players who rebound and play defense lol.
  4. Yeah pretty much worst case scenario for Kountze. But you never know.
  5. No one who knew what Bridge City had coming back would have had them in the top 4. Maybe in the top 6 if you had them over Vidor.
  6. Not in this next year’s class to my knowledge. Not sure we have anyone locally who would fit the bill (other than one or ones who have already signed).
  7. Injured. He didn’t make the trip. Jefferson on trip but on bench with a boot. Winning games without a PG is kind of like winning games without a QB. But I guess if the Saints could do it 9 times this season…
  8. Yes. The long stretch before the Rideaux hire. HF was very formidable in the time frame you are talking about.
  9. “Red rover, red rover send Harris on over!” Stay tuned to the next Lumberton game when they will unveil the hardwood version of Duck, Duck, Goose.
  10. Used to run that play in Little Dribblers all the time when my oldest was a little kid. It works like a charm against 7 year olds. And apparently sometimes on the high school level too.
  11. Yeah this is the second time the Tigers have played a sloppy 1h, only to come out foaming at the mouth to start the second in the last couple of weeks. I will be honest, I’m not surprised. Sigler scares me a little too.
  12. Meh, more a case of horrible defense. That play is as old as Methuselah. I do enjoy seeing how happy some on here get when HF takes a loss. Pretty humorous how times have changed. When my boys played, if mediocre teams didn’t 30 piece the Longhorns everyone was disappointed.
  13. Sweep completed. Nice job Cats!
  14. That was terrible. Sorry. Not basketball in any sense of the word. And I agree with AAW re shot clocks in HS basketball. I am a huge fan of the shot clock in high level basketball. But we never get Milan, IN (team Hoosiers was based upon) if they had a shot clock. For a multitude of reasons, it’s a bad idea for high schools with the exception of the Grind Session and other national leagues.
  15. Pretty much as you state.
  16. Yes. Lewis is a junior and McDermott a sophomore.
  17. Cornel Thompson doesn’t coach basketball. You would think some of it would carry over. And maybe it does. But with the exception of an outlier year hear and there, the WOS football excellence has not translated to the hardwood. And I’m not being critical of any of the coaches. They have had some good ones over the year. But when you have 40 years or so of a sport being coached by hall of famers (Hooks and Thompson), it would be hard to match that in any of the other sports.
  18. Two kids 6-6 or 6-7 would qualify as quite unusually tall, especially at the 4A level. And I would wager WOS is upper echelon athletically, again at the 4A level. In fact, this is as close as Silsbee will get to simulating the Booker T length (which judging from the first matchup against the Stangs is a little concerning). Only imagine if the 6-7 and 6-8 kids are as at LEAST as skilled as Silsbee’s best two players. Hopefully depth will be key.
  19. Agreed. They are probably going to be the 4th place team but easily the “toughest” matchup for Silsbee (tough being relative, agree could easily have a 20+ point margin of victory). They are honestly the only team that has the athleticism to “hoop” with Silsbee. LCM does to an extent but honestly their athleticism isn’t very deep. I think it’s a testament to the difference in “effort” WOS gives against Silsbee vs other teams. And that’s almost always been the knock on WOS basketball. Athletic but undisciplined. Flashes of being very good but highly inconsistent.
  20. When I think of most dominant teams (not best because obviously they weren’t going to beat the Perk Ozen teams or even the BU team this year or last), I think of that group and that ‘91 HJ team that Joub and Davis played on. Both just rolled through teams, every really good ones. I think that Kountze team was a little more dominant in terms of margin of victory in the playoffs though. In fairness, the Hawks played some real powerhouses in the playoffs that year. That Clarksville team they beat in the finals would have won it all most years.
  21. Now now. It’s okay for SOME schools to accept move ins. Which is the biggest reason many whined so long and loud (and still are) about HF. They really cramped some schools’ styles/recruiting efforts.
