  1. Or BOB will become a genius too. He has resurrected more than one coach (Kiffin, hopefully Sark šŸ¤ž).
  2. Saban is simply the best ever. Period. My apologies to the ghost of Bear Bryant. I hear you were magnificent too.
  3. Finally a thread about cricket! Now if we can just find some traction with lawn bowling in this forum....
  4. Says the Hj troll who posts the same dumb comment about Brock McClure on multiple threads in this board. Iā€™ll get a grip when you get a clue.
  5. Iā€™m just a guy who has donated my time to helping kids in summer ball for many years. We send about 8-10 kids to college (almost all D1) every year. And as a result, Iā€™ve gotten to know and talk to college coaches often when they call to ask about a particular kid (like this afternoon). But THEY offer kids, not me. You seem confused about the process but Iā€™m always happy to help šŸ˜ƒ
  6. I think he has a good chance to get one there (he already has other offers but this would be one to jump on). And the school that was inquiring is coached by a guy whose brother has coached in the Big 12 for many years now and has his program in the top 5 in the country. The school who called is currently in first place in the WAC. But you obviously really thought that comment was the one šŸ˜‚
  7. While I was sitting at a Lamar game today, had a coach from a WAC school text me and ask me my opinion about a kid from Cy Lakes. I told him to get a SETX sports account and ask you guys if the kid was any good.
  8. Very much so. He has absolutely taken over this game against HBU in the last 2 minutes of the game. Best player on the floor again. Special, special talent.
  9. I would go with Kenyon but Prudhomme would be runner up. I completely missed him. If you include Eli, I would put him above Prudhomme too. Not knocking Zjori. Even though he was originally a walk on, he was a nice role player for the Cards. He struggled to get minutes at times but thatā€™s not uncommon at the college level (as you know). I was just willing to bet Brock will put up better numbers at the same school with the same coach than Bosha did over his career.
  10. Yeah I think we are seeing what we thought going in, that there would be a lot of parity in this district. In fact, now that your Pirates are playing ball, with the exception of Silsbee (and maybe Lumberton), almost any team is capable of beating any other team on any given night. I will stick by my preseason prediction of: 1) Silsbee 2) Lumberton 3) BC and 4) wide open. But Lumberton and BC will be an interesting game coming up.
  11. They donā€™t understand what youā€™re selling. When you can recruit the 3rd biggest city in the country and only play at the third highest level (4A) in said state, it doesnā€™t take Coach K to win some championships.
  12. Hard to be younger than this Silsbee team. They seemed really young last year (obviously with a senior that will go down as one of the all time greats there) but this year they are even younger. I will say that the two seniors seemed to really step it up last night and played really well. Even though itā€™s only a couple of kids, having senior leadership on such a young team is huge. This team might end up really surprising some of us (me included).
  13. You can argue with these guys until you are blue in the face. Had some of these same conversations last year re Hefner. All he has done is go to a high D1 school and play meaningful minutes and even start some games. As a freshman. They get confused over HS vs college ball which are two completely different animals that are universes apart. McClure has the size and skill set that will, like Hefner, garner him minutes and make him a very impactful player for Lamar. I didnā€™t say star or all conference or any of that (although the way I understand he works, I wonā€™t sell him short and say itā€™s out of the question). But he will earn his scholarship there, I have no doubt. But save your breath would be my advice. People either know and get it or they donā€™t. You wonā€™t convince them otherwise. And for someone who claims not to be a basketball guy, your posts on this thread seem to indicate otherwise.
  14. Not denying it, was jerking chains. I think I see the disconnect though. We are not talking about the best HIGH SCHOOL players here. You said you donā€™t see McClure as a D1 player. HUGE difference. Donohoe, who you brought up, is a prime example. Easily could argue heā€™s a better HS player and you would be right imo. By the same token, Ryan was a mediocre D2 player in college. Also as we pointed out, I would argue that Braelon Bush (who has already proven heā€™s a legit D1 btw) was a better HS player than Greg Brown. Same HS class, Braelon was better in HS. Greg, however, is having a great freshman season at Texas and will likely be a mid first round pick in next yearā€™s draft.
  15. Knowing who it was now, you can take that story to the bank. Paul is a good dude, and he is a passionate guy. Sounds like he found a ref with rabbit ears and that was the end of it. Glad to hear it from him and doesnā€™t sound like it had anything to do with any of the Tiger players.
  16. You are awfully sensitive with the ā€œbasketball godsā€ and ā€œI know youā€™re never wrongā€ comments. You just keep making comments like this one that reveal you are more than a little off with your evaluations. But to use one kid who you are mistaken about, again, I am willing to bet McClure averages more than 6 pts and 3 rebs at Lamar. Same school, same coach as Bosha played at/for. And I am wrong on occasion. I sat in a gym in Duncanville several years ago and argued with one of my best friends that Texas should hire Shaka and he argued they should hire Buzz Williams. This year aside (where Shaka is trying to prove me right), I have still admitted to him many times that he was right and I was wrong. And he knows a little about the sport too...his sons played for Calipari at Kentucky
  17. Iā€™ve also read some posts on here by some regulars (earlier this season) how they were much better this year without Hefner. An unselfish, high major kid. And that doesnā€™t even factor in the other seniors who were really valuable pieces. Talk about looking at a record without looking at a team...
  18. That all starts with Silsbeeā€™s youth (LD) program. Silsbee is one of the few places that actually teaches kids how to correctly play defense. They donā€™t feed them the myth that basketball is a non-contact sport. And while I have to admit I havenā€™t seen a single Silsbee little dribbler game that wasnā€™t against another town, Iā€™m assuming they try to have games officiated properly. Conversely, you have other towns where they grow up used to getting every touch foul, mommaā€™s get upset when someone bodies little Johnny, etc. So when you play Silsbee, they are playing dirty because they play hard, physical defense. Would grate on my last nerve sitting in the stands listening to that.
  19. Started out as a preferred walk on at HBU and then ended up transferring to a D2 (I believe).
  20. You are absolutely right on Prudhomme. Missed him. Loved Saladinā€™s game but McClureā€™s size and athleticism puts him on a different level. But no one got more out of what God gave him than Michael Saladin.
  21. Yep. Forgot about him. So no one that I can remember between Prudhomme and Parquet (if you count Eli). I actually would also put Throop ahead but I consider him an LCM Bear.
  22. I forgot about West Brookā€™s Parquet. But yes, if you count him as a Hawk (and he certainly doesnā€™t), Eli is definitely better. If you donā€™t count Parquet, you would go back to Kenyon probably. Yes, Iā€™m skipping Zjori. And I would bet Brock averages more than 6 & 3 for his career as a Cardinal.
  23. HJ troll. McClure is better than any Hawk in quite some time.
