Little Cypress-Mauriceville 64 Silsbee 88/FINAL
TxHoops replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
This team was never going to be as good as some thought. They had some kids that like to put it up and are streaky scorers. But they were fools gold. Much like the coaches poll on who would be playoff teams before the season, I scratched my head on which half of the coaches last season voted for the LCM kid as offensive MVP vs McClure (they tied). Those two aren’t in the same hemisphere. The good news for Bears’ fans is the best player in that school district is in 7th grade. Not sure if they won district but I know they had a battle of undefeateds against Silsbee a few weeks ago and the Cubs won. That kid has the goods and will be the best player to wear the green and gold in quite a while. -
Not the hurt the narrative but those tv numbers don’t include streams (over a billion minutes for the first time in streaming history). It will also the most watched telecast of 2021 by a long shot. But carry on old heads 🤣 (from a fellow old head).

A legendary Houston coach took the job at Sterling (who have struggled). And Coach Haymon comes in and has this kind of season with Goose Creek. They certainly can make some noise in playoffs.

Sam and Avant are both juniors (arguably their best two players). Team is about half and half (seniors and juniors). But they should be even better next year.

HJ matches up well with any of them. They are more well rounded. I think WOS COULD give HH another first round exit if the Mustangs were to play the Hyenas (or whatever HH is). A key player or two from Huffman tend to struggle with elite on-ball defenders. I only saw the Mustangs play Silsbee though this year, and I’m not sure if they have any of those. -
I mean, it’s been a year a first for Lumberton basketball. Let’s add a 10 page thread to the list!

When was the last time Kentucky, Duke and UNC were all unranked at the same time?

Beat me to it. Thanks @AggiesAreWe Second basketball junkie I’ve heard that from. Hopefully that’s a matchup we get to see. Will be worth the drive.

Similar situation except for the small difference in population to draw from. Call me crazy but I’d like to field a team from a population of over 2 million vs 6 thousand.... -

Silsbee’s been living rent free in that one’s head for a while.:.. -

And they settle way too much. There’s a reason they are letting you shoot the ball. -
When the last time PAM missed the playoffs?

Is anything more Covidy than a Memorial basketball thread being hijacked by Kountze talk? -
Yep, Lumberton will be picked to be the best of the rest (I.e., not Silsbee) again next season. WOS and Coach Wilson may have something to say about that though. Free for all for fourth again.
-
According to Coach Mitchell, you are correct sir.
-
From Cameroon. He plays at South Plains, currently the #1 ranked juco team in the country. Had about 10 D1 offers but NCAA didn’t clear him until August (due to international issues) so he decided to play a free year of juco (since this season doesn’t count against eligibility anyway). But I’m not disputing your claim would be correct the vast majority of the time (and is technically correct in this case since he isn’t playing D1 - yet 😉).
-
Correct. One from a few years ago comes to my mind 😉 (and in a lower classification). He’s going to be right way more than he’s wrong though, especially when dealing with a wing with size who can handle and shoot it, or a PG.
-
Plenty of us thought they would be top 2. Great coach and the best player in the district? Not rocket science. Silsbee-Lumberton-BC were the class of the district coming in and it was going to be a free for all for that last spot.
-
A 6-6 wing who handles the ball and is a D1 talent is enough to finish near the top of any 4A district. In this district, it was a no brainer. It was always going to be them who presented the biggest challenge to Silsbee.

You know you are a nosebleed elite program when a second place district finish due to 2 Covid forfeits (essentially) is considered a down year... -

Umm whoa. Please give us your impressions on NW after the game AAW. -
I have no doubt he does. But people apparently like his music (I didn’t even know who he was before this). And I predict he will recover. In the end, if he can sell records (or I guess if his music is downloaded in this day and age), he will land on his feet. He’s not okay now, but he will be.
-
Mr Wallen will be okay. There are probably more fans of that genre of music who are less offended with the use of that word (even with the hard R) than there are of criticizing a President for entering a war. Even when that war, by most accounts, ended up being a horrible decision.

I have no idea the voting protocol on the preseason predictions for the TABC. If it’s just the coaches in that district, that’s pretty bad.
