I for one don't like the turf. You're supposed to get dirty in baseball. Turf the infield and outfield grass - fine, but leave the infield dirt.

Mickey Mantle playing drunk doesn't? Others played on speed, that doesn't? Players are supposedly held on a pedestal so their character is a part of the honor of the game I didn't say anything about speed. And playing drunk would affect the integrity, but only for that one game. It's not like Mantle spent three or four seasons drunk for every game. And I don't see how that would enhance his performance. The steroid users were enhancing their perfromance over the course of seasons. Sosa, Bonds, Clemens (likely) all were using a substance to give them a competitive advantage over the pitcher. If you can tell me how being intoxicated gives you a competitve advantage, I'm all ears.

Berkman is the face of the franchise at the moment, and Uncle Drayton would lose all goodwill with the community if he traded Lance away. The players to put out there are Oswalt (no trade clause), Valverde, Tejada, Pudge and to a lesser extent Keppinger and Hampton

What's the point of firing Cooper now. This team is going nowhere. They simply don't have the pitching to get it done this season. Bringing someone in now just puts them behind the eight ball from the start. I knew someone would throw out Biggio - that would be great, but when he fails with this team as well, do we fire him? I say let Cooper have till the break and if things are still this bad, let the bench coach take over for the rest of the year, see what you can get for Oswalt and Valverde and maybe Tejada and start looking in earnest for a REAL mananger in the offseason. You guys are off - you can't call drayton cheap when he has the 8th highest payroll in the league. Imagine if you were a Pirates or Nationals fan. Drayton's problem is he can't keep his hand out of the baseball operations. That is the reason Hunsicker left. I like the direction that Ed Wade is taking the farm system with the one draft he's been a part of. The other problem has been that the Astros have made these late surges in the last few years that has given Uncle Drayton the idea that this team is only a player or two away from contending. As far as trades go each of the big three (Berkman, Oswalt and Lee) have no trade clauses. You don't trade Pence as he is young and cheap talent the club can build around. Lee won't waive his no trade clause and I would be surprised if Berkman did. Oswalt might for the right situation. But Drayton doesn't want to give the public perception that the team is throwing in the towel. I hope we all enjoyed '04 and '05 because it's going to be a long road back.
